Good article. What strikes me is the abscence of mandatory Isalm, Kashmir, Palestine, the India, the best friend China, the bomb, the bomber, jihad etc etc. Pakistan never seems to miss troble spots in the world. Lately, it has added the notorious Zimbabwe to its list of global burden. It is arab for some, better than Indians, cultured than the west, like that of this country or of this of that country. Pakistan should learn to live for itself not in the shadows of one or other country be as a friend or foe.

The individual Pakistani I met is too a good person but completely ignorant of the world even when living abraod, wrongly informed, brain wahsed by the establishment at home. They belive, belive and simply belive anyhting than him self. One has to just feed them, like magnet they take it. Never oppose anything in life, accepts anything thrown by the system.

This great identity crisis both at national and individual level is the cause of Pakistan`s trouble.

What is this? Dear Diary or something?

Mr. Ahmer Muzammil .. I really want you to take a vacation. You`re talking too much BS now ... (actually you always did, but this is more so than ever before.)

Thanks.

Well , we all know you are an excellent writer so far on FP of chowk.com.
And I am sure everytihng that you stated in your article is absolutely NOT plagiarism. It is very original and it comes from your heart, mind and soul.

BTW, that`s the reason I choose to read your articles and respond. Co incidentally I find it hard to believe that almost all of your articles are depiction of my mind.

Please, take it as a compliment.

And also, I don`t think #70 meant that way....He is just raising his suspicions and questioning it .
Your articles are eye opener and thought provoking for all pakistanis. rather a wake up call.

Anyway, thanks again for your original and intellectual articles. I always look forward to see more articles by you on front page. Thanks

Re: # 70

I usually choose not to interact on my articles because i believe that i have said whatever i needed to say and its reader`s turn to discuss the issues that i have raised.

However you are levelling a very serious charge of plagirism on me, which is absolutely false. I would like to know what website was these same sentences on/ and who is the supposed writer of the article? My thoughts and experiences might not be unique but u r suggesting plagirism on my part and i am extremly offendedbwcasue this was a genuine effort on my part.

And, haan don`t be scared to inform each one of us about what else you do for the poor masses of pakisan and ofcourse for the betterment of Pakistan?

I am so proud to have you among us. It shows that still there is hope and light at the other end of the tunnel. Bravo....

exact same words i found on another site???

who copied who??

today in school i was telling a group of Pakistani students about ya article as we had discussion about the recent bombing...infact i started that discussion...

and most of them were like whats wrong with Junaid.....but I told them I am outraged because I care and I care because it’s my country and I care because it’s my people. My friends here in Toronto and also in Islamabad..ma cousins in Karachi...said to me that I have nothing but i`ll things to say about Pakistan, I haven’t lived in Pakistan for almost 6 years, so why do I even care? I find it saddening...there`s so many reasons why i CARE so much about ma homeland...but i`ll mention only one thing which struck me really bad when last time i was in Islo...
I care because I met an 8 year old who was selling ``Nala’s`` (those Belts for shalwar kameez) in Rawalpindi, i believe it was near Commette Chowk . As a visiting guy and also who was watching this product ``Nala`` after so many years coz its been ages me wearing shalwar kameez...bottom line, I wasn’t really the ``target market``, nor do I wanted to lug around stacks of ``Nala’s`` while I was out with friends. Anyway, I gave him some money and he tried to give about 20 packs of his merchandise. I said to him brother I don’t really need them so he can just keep the money. He said with tears in his eyes ``Sahab, hamarayy abba beemar hein, werna ham school jatayy hein, bhikari naheen hein ham, aapkoo zarooratt hay too loo, reham na khaoo ham parr`` (Sir my father is ill today so I am trying to cover his route, if you need these than he’ll sell it to me but he doesn’t need me to pity him). I swear to ya guys...Mani, Fozi.... that I am not trying to parade my humanity here but I had tears in my eyes and I apologized to him and bought everything he had......
i won`t elaborate this any further coz i need to close ma notebook and get some sleep...will leave this to ya guys....

In your response it looks like you have very soft corner for martial law...

No matter what, martial law is a curse for any given country......

Here is what I say for this permanent martial law in Pakistan.......Wellcome to permanent martial law and face this new era of fascism under the direct dictatorship of king Musharraf.

So, you have given up your democracy and right for the people and by the people.

How unfortuante Pakistan could be, when intellectuals like you start favouring martial law instead......tsk, tsk, tsk......

Mr. Muzammil,

I think you really spoke your mind in this illuminating article and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just to let you know, I`m doing my Bachelors in Accounting from the United States and I`m back in Lahore after a gap of 6 years. It`s so good to be back in the homeland!!

I really agree with most of your thoughts and I never really realized how much potential we got in our young lads till I went to the US for higher studies. MashAllah, we got engineers from Karachi and computer programmers from Lahore and Accountants from Sialkot. Overall, we`ve a very talented youth but our governmental situations, the integrity of our politicians and the lack of opportunities always kept us back.

I`ve not gone to Karachi yet but after a gap of 6 years, I see little but very flourishing signs in Lahore at the least. No question that when I go to a mall or a restaurant, I feel very sad when I see an 8 years old kid begging, really that tells me that we have a long way to go but Alhumdulillah, it`s not as bad as it was 10 years ago; that`s in my humble opinion. It`s been only 10 or so days since I`ve been back in Lahore and I feel quite a difference in Lahore. No question that we have the infrastructure problems, the poverty, the ruthlessness of our government officers but we`ve definitely made a stride forward in Pres. Musharraf`s era so far. There are many things that I don`t agree with Pres. Musharraf`s policies but some are worth to be given credit.

I`m not sure about other cities but I`ve seen a good increase in people`s minds about the necessity of education; government offices seems to be a little updated as well; just take the example of NADRA; I was really happy to see a universal ID card system for all our fellow compatriots since we as Pakistanis have undoubtedly abused the NIC system of our older time. The banking system has advanced.

There`s a freer media available before and this Army General who are normally attributed with suppressing dissents has given a rise to disagree with him and still make a good future or else we have seen what happened with people in Gen. Zia`s and Gen. Khan`s times.

I`m very happy to be a part of the nation that feels together in times of need. The earthquake of 2005 united Pakistanis of all background for the help of their Kashmiri brothers and others as well. Yea, undoubtedly, we got our problems but slowly but surely, we are making a stride and inshAllah, we`ll be stronger and economically better in the years to come.

May Allah keep Pakistan alive till the End and bring all the Pakistanis as a unit (Ameen) and work for our country. Someone in the US asked about Pakistanis esp. students as most of them do very well in the US and asked if you have some potential; why are you guys behind? I told them about the lack of opportunities, and all that but I also strongly mentioned a thing that I strongly believe in as well and that is:
`` Pakistan became the 8th nuclear power with a literacy rate of about 35 to 38%. Imagine, a nation with the literacy rate of 100%. They will knock everyone off.``

Best Regards and keep us entertaining with your super articles;and yes, I`m very open to dialogue and optimistic about learning from others.

Umer Sheikh
Lahore, Pakistan

Re: # 61

Ahmed Sahab,

You have a certain point of view about things, i have a differing view. Your definition of RIght & Wrong probably is a little different than mine. The reason for that PROBABLY is that you have all the knowledge about all the things, i however plead ignorance, nor do i claim to see everything in black and white, so people like me who are not as ``Intellectually Developed`` as you are, looks towards wiser people than themselves or towards what they think is the Sole creater of this Universe. The onus of FREE actions obviosuly falls on the individual, hadith could be the guiding light. You seem to think that you don`t need it because you are so ``Intellectually developed`` that you don`t need any help and you are capable of resolving all matters on ur own, i however look towards sources that I consider are wiser than me, and once i listen to that opinion if I get a feeling that this might be the right thing to do than i do it. I have said it in the past that we need ask ourselves that what is this all about? In my estimation this whole exercise is about two things, first that we are HAPPY in this life and for those of us who believe that there is life after this worldy life than we are HAPPY in that after life as well. Some people get HAPPY by doing drugs, some get HAPPY by praying FAJR.

According to my belief choices have consequences and I am trying to play safe because i have no deprevation or i am personally not miserable because i am not drinking but mostly i am not drinking because MY belief is that it`ll get me in trouble in the life which will be forever, like i said i am just playing safe. This is MY belief you have every right to disagree especially because dsiagreeing is not against the law in this country because the majority of this country had recently decided that disagreement shouldnt be against the law. My understanding of my religion forces me to follow the law of the land especially if its a non muslim majority land and they have allowed me to come to their land provided that i abide by their laws, so i entered in a contract with them without any compulsion. Thats why i have a major beef with muslims insisting marrying more than one wives in west. YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW. If your understanding is that unless you marry more than once than you wouldnt be a complete muslim than you need to move to a polygomy friendly country.

My Islam teaches me to be a law abiding citizen. Having said all of that, we also have to give the same decorum to the majority opinion of other countries, thats the essence of democracy. Every country`s majority has the right to govern their lives according to their wishes and aspirations, when we have double standards thats when the problem arises. When you start telling people that MY VAUES AND MY UNDERSTANDING OF EVERYTHING IS THE ULTIMATE TRUTH and you are not able to provide logical proof of that insistance than that attitude is dictatorial, and i have a problem with that. I have no problem following but you gotta come up with a proof thas good enough for me.

If you live in afghanistan and its against the law of the land to leave islam then you might want to migrate to a land where its not against the law, otherwise they will punish you for mocking majority`s opinion, as they do every where else. If we insist that American majority has the right to decide how and thru which laws they are going to govern their lives than we need to give the same decorum to others. We can disagree with laws and try to change them thru due process by changing the hearts and minds of the majority but till that materializes we have to follow that law which the current majority has implemented for themselves or we can migrate to a friendlier land.

Exactly, in my pov this author cares more about Pakistan than many of others who just shut their eyes and pretend that everything is alright.

No everything is not alright. We have to fix everything to rebuild this nation from scratches.

You see you are again twisting my pov. Let me remind you what my pov was and I still stand by my pov.

I I believe almost 95% of Hadiths are NOT true, so I reject all the Hadiths and will not follow them @ any cost.

And plus there is no need of Hadiths, if, we have Quran. Simple.

I do not force anyone or you to follow me in that. You have all the freedom of choice. go ahead do what suits you.

On the contrary it was you who constantly got hysteric and started personal attacks on me.
Anyway, same happened on this board.

Honestly, I also have problem with your kind of English. But, still I am trying my best to acknowledge your pov and don`t manipulate your ideology.

i liked the article..and yes criticism is great--as long as it comes with an effort to do something to help out...if not, its a waste of time.

care is shown through actions and sacrifice...declaring care alone isn`t enough

and just to be clear, this isn` t anything against the author...he/she probably has a good reason to decide to not live in pakistan for over the past decade and perhaps makes other contributions in some other way...i wouldn`t know.

Keep on barking, the way you are barking , it shows your up bringing. Not mine.

It doesn`t matter you are Indian or Pakistani. At least you are showing you are not human being. You are beast and from some barbaric origin.

May be your poor mother tried to raise you like a human, but, once barbaric always barbaric.

Why don`t you committ a suicide and finish your stinky and beasty body once and for all. I think best way for you to finish your miserable and pathetic life is to , go and hang your self in a rope like Sadam Hussain , or burn yourself alive.
It will be a great favour for the whole human progeny and also for your poor mother whom you physically abuse daily by kicking @ her ass and by calling her dumb cuunt. Have mercy on your abused mother, she is old respectable lady, treat her atleast like a human. or why don`t you burn yourself alive, at least you will save your family the trouble to burn your dead body after your suicide. I think you shoudl burn yourself alive. That is the best way to get rid of your miserable life.

Oh, God It feels so good for the first time to suggest a rabbid dog on the loose to kill himself.

I think you are faggot just by looking at your kind of response, unable to produce any progeny . I am so glad you are faggot b/c that is another favour for humans, we don`t wish to see your progeny exactly like you.

Come on hurry up, get a rope or petrol , either hang yourself or burn yourself alive.

Thanks for your posts. (don`t rape your own family females). Have mercy please, they are humans , too.
