So the question is, if we replace this elite (lets say us) with another, would they be more honest and would that lead us to a fair society.

....the article highlights the basic problem in pakistan.......everyone is ready to blame the, ``other`` guy, but not him/herself......
.....there is an easy way to figure out who is the cause of problems in an unequal society.......just take a look at who the biggest beneficiaries are........follow the trail of the beneficieries, and invariably, it will lead to unfair benefits gained from the system......doesn`t matter how honesty the beneficiaries cliam to be......
........who, then, are the beneficieries of the corrupt system in pakistan......it is all of us in the chowk crowd.......all of us have been able to live first world lives in a third world country......this is imposible without gaining unfair benefits from the system.......

English has got nothing to do with all this. English is not my mother tongue either.
It is pride for me that my English is not perfect like your`s. I am not gora origin. And may be you have your parents or one parent from gora origin. Wh oknows?
Now, you stand for army dictatorship. Well, be it, don`t change your pov, then.
Stand by this original thought of your`s. Don`t insult yourself by changing your own povs after every other posts. You see, how much I have effected your brain that you changed even your own pov. It is soooo hilarious.
But, hullo, this time your online behaviour is lil civilized, you did not resort to personal attacks. Well, carry on, may be you`ll learn how to improve your online behaviour.

I take immense offense to ur incinuation that our views would some how be close to each other. Thats an outright insult. If its a fact of matter than i have to reevaluate my stance on dictatorship, if u r opposing it...hmm mthen maybe its a good thing.

This statement that “We won’t allow, Benazir and Nawaz to contest” is as narcissistic and dictatorial as it can get. I personally think that both of them are bass-turds, but it is the essence of democracy to let the “people” decide. Democracy is a self corrective process which will eventually weed out the ills. This is circular logic at it’s height that we rap against dictatorship but then enforce our wisdom on people. This is exactly what the military mafia has been doing to Pakistani public for the last 60 years, “We are the only patriots hence its our sole right to decide what’s right or wrong”. As a nation we need to arrive at this consensus that the reformation needs to START somewhere, what would that first step be? Has it reached a point where forceful eviction of army from our power-corridors is the only option? I don’t know, maybe, but I don’t know. I do however know that it’s not going to be a walk in the park. They are not going to give up their “defence colonies” and there “brahman” attitudes towards the shudar common person, without a fight.
It is too naïve and to some extent maybe even criminal to demonize the 2 “democratic” stunts and present them as a failure of democracy and hence the justification of army’s superiority for the rest of our lives. But keep in mind that they are use to their superior mentality and it’ll take some convincing to consider us as humans and as ‘pakistanis’ as them.

I will never ever any soft edge to Army dictators. This is for sure. BB, Nawaz Sahrif and others....Why? Why? Pakistanis are unable to undergo ultrafilteration process f constant fair democratic elections lie India and ward off these old, retard weeds like BB and Nawaz sharif?
Why we always look up to Army for weeding out these idiots?
why Pakistanis are unable to find new progressive much more competent people who are reluctant to come upsurface?
Why Bhutoos and Nawas again and again?
Sure we have much more better people in Pakistan who can lead us in a good direction...........and If, process continues Pakistan won`t be any less than India in it`s progress......
Naila
I agree with you. Everyone needs to practice strict law obedience like European countries do. But, Then who will follow Law, only poor masses?
Unless we won`t eradicate these old stinky weeds we won`t be able to eradicate massive stinks............

My God! This is pathetic. All the expats screaming and wailing about the corruption back home. We are the way we are in foreign lands because we don’t get a chance to get ahead by breaking the line, or taking a short cut where ever possible. But upon return to the good old mother land we cannot stop extolling our new found virtues and lay upon those who have been doing there thing for generations. Please ask yourself truthfully, before you left Pakistan did you stand in line to get your passport or for that matter anything, or did you rely on papa’s connections to get everything taken care of?
All this group in power, group out of power, the oppressed masses, is all hogwash. We as a society believe that, , “committing injustice is naturally good and desired, but suffering injustice is naturally bad and avoided”. So when we get a chance we will trample on the rights of who ever else without a second thought, but when the shoe is on the other foot hear us SQUEAL.

Thank you! This was what I expected from you and the people of your ilk who consider themselves to be `Khudai Foujdar`. You cosider criticism of `Islam-prosing` Mullah as attack on Islam. You also seem to be a `Halfi-Muslim` who has sold his soul to the Mullah.

Re #8,
``Just take an example of India and its progress...........we can follow the pathway....``
Dear Zeena,
Are you sure you are not joking there? If so, I would beg to differ on your POV. India is at best a poor country with some people getting rich. Other than that the social set up remains largely similar to that you bemoan in your country. Corruption exists in many ugly forms, only that with a free press and a still functioning judiciary things are somewhat better.
What I find worrying is the way the common man accepts corruption. Anyone who makes a fast buck is admired irrespective of how he makes it. It is as though a person who when weilding a suitable post doesn`t make some money on the side, is rather `incompetent`. Honesty and intergrity seldom score over money. I do not think that there is anyone pointing out the need for these virtues in our lives to the present generation.
There seems to be a general disregard for laws in general, with everyone flouting laws small and big at will.We need to accept the rule of the law beyond political affiliations and take pride in practising them. But given a history of having acheived Independence through ``Disobedience``, it seems a difficult idea for people to accept, unless forced upon them.
Nila.

Re: # 2
Actually it is the so-called mullahs...
You mentioned
Irresponsibility: Mullahs decided that changes in Hudood Ordinance are unislamic. Idiots agreed with it without learning about Islam by reading Quran. The same Mullahs scream against the West when all of them have sent their children to study here.
Corruption:When Mullahs were asked to show where money to support them and their hooligans is coming from they refused. Now does anyone know why?
Apathy:A word that completely defines the Mullahs. They would rather sit on their asses and preach than go out and do some actual good for their country.
Oh Urstruly I did not use the term idiot because I was mad. I used the word for its literal meaning (somebody with an IQ of less then 25 and a mental age of 3 years - OR - unitelligent - in other words a nincompoop)
Teshah:
What kind if an idiotic response was that dude. Are you one of those people who are going to attack Islam whatever happens. I know a lot of people like you. Unfortunately they are all in Hollywood.

The more I am reading these responses, the harder it is becoming to disagree with either Zeena or sanatani. Sanatani I agree with you that people should be blamed also. I have seen people who live without any issues in the West but as soon as they enter Pakistan they forget the basic meaning of Hygiene, cleanliness, and law and order. The same person who drives at the posted speed limit in Philadelphia feels pride at being able to double park in front of a hospital in Pakistan. You will see these same people spitting paan or whatever thing they are chewing right on the street (whether anyone or anything is in the vicinity or not).
True Example: At Karachi airport, people departing for US were supposed to be standing behind a yellow line to be called one by one. Of course no one was foloowing the rule including the people working there. All I could hear was people blaming West, and Pakistani government for the chaos. I hope at least one of them realized that it was them who were to be blamed and not the government.
Lastly, it is the same people who kept voting for Benazir, and Nawaz, and are now supporting Musharaf(who I believe is much better for the country then those two - but he is definitely not the right solution) and then they complain conveniently forgetting the corruption that they themselves helped reach this level.
On the other hand, Zeena is also correct in saying that Pakistan is full of oppressed people who truly believe that they have no right. However Zeena, one question for you. After the brutal days of Zia; Bhutto and Nawaz ruled the country for 11 years taking it to the brink of Bankruptcy. The first thing they did was to silence the media so no one had the guts to say anything. Musharaf came and even though he is ``Army``, he at least gave permission to disagree with him. That is why we have shows like ``Views on News`` etc (you might not agree with them). Would you bring Benazir and/or Nawaz back instead of Musharaf? With the media as bold and strong as it is now (i-e having the power to speak against the raj), my answer would be a lous ``YES``. But remember if those two are ruling, the first thing they will do is kill the media. Then we will be back to the dark ages of those 11 years where Pakistan went downhill. I dont believe in Military governments but this cycle will never stop untill it is rooted out. After Benazir and Zardari there will be Bilawal looting Pakistan`s wealth. You really think these politicians will stop. No they never will. All we can hope for is for them to die and their kids to enjoy drugs or alcohol or whatever and leave Pakistan alone....

Good points Sanatani.
``Based on what I see in India and what I hear about Pakistan from people who have been there and the articles in the press I dont know whose reality is worse. In most ways I feel it is ours but then when I see Urstruly, Naqshbandi and Sattar fighting it out on semantics maybe it is theirs. ``
It depends on the aspect of reality that exists at any given point of time. One reality where India is better than Pakistan is the simple fact that we are no longer involved in existential issues about our country.
``P.S. Mr Muzzamil I do not agree with you that the people of Pak are blameless. Just as the people of India are not. These people spring from us.``
Touche.
