Jinahabad is promoted as an independent city state establsihed in Karachi with a possible inclusion of Hyderabad; just like Hong Kong or Singapore. It was vehemently being promoted by MQM as an alternative free trade city during the days when status of HongKong vis a vis Britain and China was still unsettled. The name ``Jinahabad`` was chosen for obvious reasons- one reason being to pacify the moderate and patriot faction of Mohajirs. The western colonialists, drug dealers, smugglers, russian hookers and other deviant creatures preferred Dubai instead when MQM divided into two factions and pitted against each other in a civil war during 90s. The first civil war started in 1985 when MQM started its conserted campaign of ethnic cleansing of every other ethnic group from Karachi. It continued until 93-94 until Benazir ended it with military intervention. The second civil war started in 1994-95 between two MQM factions and continued well into 1999-2000 when military dictatorship made a political agreement with Altaf group and crushed the other using brutal state machinery as a payout for Altaf group`s support for dictatorship.

The group was the Afaq group. Don`t remember the full name. I think he (Afaq) is currently living somewhere in Lahore or Islamabad on ``pension`` from military dictatorship - you know, just in case.

Yes .. Afaq ... he was supposed to be a terror right? He was head of the MQM terrorists, but seperated and neutralized. He was given Landhi for some time to kill the other MQM types, and when he was done, he was neutered like a dog.

I don`t think he is neutered per se. Both militia factions of MQM were created by military establishment to serve its own pupose. The Afaq militia (MQM Haqeeqee) was created when Altaf (Mutahidda) forgot his auqaat of former police informer and started considering himself as a leader.

I do not consider any of the enemies of Paksitan as weak or irrelevant. As the proverb goes, a worthless blade of grass may render you helpless if it gets into your eye. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

While I understand your frustration at the Stations, expecially since you a rich person used to travelling by Air. But being connected with some law enforcement relatives, I cannot agree with you.

You are summarily dismissing the whole train as Smuggling Train, this is so wrong and insult to BSF and Punjab Police. Yes, there is room for improvement, but it is a known fact that most of the people who take these trains are poor Pakistanis (Bihari/UP types known for smuggling) and they on the return leg they are known for smuggling goods. Maybe they could simply install X-ray machines to screen things with Customs help.

None the less, situation is not so bad as you have portrayed.

Regarding lax security – perhaps it is time to consider the privatization of the Indian Railways – ANYONE ought to be able to do a better job than the current jokers in-charge!
