Don`t they have every right to lead their lives like the way they want to with their own freedom of expression? freedom of performing their own routines with their own ways of disciplining themselves?

So, that would be great if they would have been drinking heavily, being womanizers, going to stripper clubs, indulging in adultery, going out with prostitutes, calling names ...........then this article will be in their praise and admiration...........the same article would state, these are great, modern, advanced, freedom lovers......

This article has absolutely nothing to do with what you`re getting so excited about. It`s not criticizing Pakistani players for having beards. It`s about how these beards have been turned into bombs against players who refuse to toe the line drawn by Inzimam and his Tableeghi advisors. The popular sport cant be seen as a separate enterprise from mother (root). I remember seeing 1992 finals when Imran took trophy. I also remember seeing many more pesentation ceremonies where Pak captains, players took their trophies. I cudnt remeber if it`s Waqar who the first who started invoking God in presentation ceremonies. It felt odd, when he did. Now we see this invocation of God in every ceremony where Pak team is involved.

Needs comparison if other teams does this (invocation of God). Why Pakistan? Well, why not Pakistan? Was this God thing is becoming too much of Obsessive Compulsie Disorder (OCD)?

In India too Gavasker made Indian team visit this fraud baba i.e Satya Saibaba b4 world cup (sometime in the past). Indian team also met religious men b4 important matches. Krish Srikkanth gave expensive silver statue to Guruvayoor temple (in individual capacity)when he became Indian captain. Of course the god who took bribe did eff his captaincy;-).

Nowadays Indian team is forced to sport tilak everytime they arrive for a match.
Indian cricket is not far behind in stupidity when it comes to mixing sport with religion.

I am not getting this at all. Religious is a personal issue and it should be personal. But this article sounds like author have some bad memories related with Pakistani captain or Tableighi Jammat.

Perhaps Raiwind has pitchs more suited to Inzi & the boys` devine strokeplay? Thus, I suggest the team lands there instead of Karachi or Lahore after its fast approaching exit from the World Cup. And who knows, had Pakistan won the cup, even Bob Woolmer might have grown a beard as well.
Sigh. If only Inzi would have thought more about imparting cricket taleem than deeni taleem, we might have beaten ireland ... at least.

i can`t believe pak lost to ireland! bt they deserved to lose because they played crap cricket. ireland played better on the day. well done to them! for knobs like hassanmahmood and others the reason pak lost was NOT because of their beards. there is no link okay.

[aside: it was saint patrick`s day. those who follow the deobandi tablighi-jamaat brand of islam do not believe in saints. those who are ahle sunnat DO believe in saints. we have our regular urs ceremonies which are saints` days. for example the other day we celebrated urs-e-ala hazrat imam ahmad raza khan. every month we celebrate sayyid shaykh abdul qadir jilani`s urs aka gyaarveeN sharif or, if you will, st. abdul qadir jilani`s day. maybe if our team became ahle sunnat and invoked the help of ghaus paak we might have won!!! ;-) in all seriousness, it has nothing to do with cricket.

Apparently not since Ireland won!! However, if it is any consolation, muhammad (pbuh) did win over hanuman (pbuh) as Indians got their ass kicked by Bangladeshis!!

I dont know much abt Irish team but the way they played they wud make good professional `international` players than our money-minting imposter `international` players. As for Bangladeshis, kudos to boys and the man behind their success Dave Whatmore. The same Dave lifted Sri Lankans from lower levels.

The body-cum-oral language of Woolmer and Chappel are indicative that they better survive their contract periods than `changing` the mentality of cricket mandarins & players in India and Pakistan.
