``The ``liberal`` elite among the PPPs are a known group of Mohajir-haters that all of us recognize and none of us trusts. ``

Salim Bhai,

You are quite correct on this issue. There are a great many decadent and subversive elements within the rank of PPP itself that BB should take care of. I think BB needs to re-invent her political manifesto towards building a liberal , secular and democratic future Pakistan, throw away the baggage of Islamism and project herself as some one who can be a viable replacement for Musharaff politically.

Q: How many Pakistani khakis does it take to beat up one unarmed lawyer?

A: Two. One to beat him to pulp and the other to ensure that the first one does a ``good`` job!

The following closing line from Cowasjee`s column of March 18, 2007; entitled ``Mismanaged and Dysfunctional``, is rather telling.

This is a short column. Disgust and dismay prevents me from writing more. All we can do is murmur to ourselves “Let Good triumph over Evil.”

you have gotta be kidding me...mushy says he is a victim in all this and pakis buy it?

Present turmoil conspiracy against me: Musharraf

* President says he has no personal differences with chief justice
* Urges protestors and police to exercise restraint

PAKPATTAN: President General Pervez Musharraf has said a conspiracy is being hatched against him and the country over the reference against the chief justice of Pakistan.

Addressing a public gathering of some 30,000 people at Pakpattan on Saturday, Gen Musharraf said he was confident that with the nation’s support, he would overcome the “intrigues” against him and the government.

The president asked people not to protest on the roads against the suspension of the chief justice, as this would hamper Pakistan’s development and damage its image. He urged both protestors and the police to “exercise restraint” and not resort to violence.

Gen Musharraf said he had no personal differences with the chief justice. He said the reference was prepared by the government and it was his legal and constitutional duty to refer it to the Supreme Judicial Council. He stressed that he had only acted upon the advice of the prime minister and some ministers. He said some people were “doing politics and hatching conspiracies against me and the country on an issue which is legal and constitutional”. He reiterated that he would accept whatever verdict the Supreme Judicial Council made on the reference.

Referring to Friday’s police action against private TV channel Geo in Islamabad and bomb hoax at the Geo office in Karachi, the president said the incident was “very unfortunate” and condemned it. He said an investigation had been launched to determine who was behind the police assault on the television station. He said the action was an attempt to malign him. “I am blamed for everything,” he said.

Gen Musharraf said he was a firm believer in press freedom and so it was unthinkable that he would take such action. He said it was under his rule that the media was given freedom. There was no private media in the country six years ago, he pointed out. He said he would continue to support press freedom.

The president also announced a gas supply project for southern Punjab worth Rs 4 billion, grant of ownership rights to 21 slum areas in the region, and Rs 2.5 million for each union council for development projects in their areas. agencies

Mr.Ranjit please read #105.
As a head of state there are duties. As said in old days king have no relative but all subjects are his children and all are equal. Some duties are bitter but as said kings have no kins. Now he has all powers but rulers can not enjoy it, he is king but has nothing its lonely at top and life devoted to statecraft and General is that level, he has all power but he can not use for himself but he has to take bitter decisions as a king as any father has to whip boys and rebuke daughters for bad deeds, bad company of friends and lafangas hanging around them. Then your daughters do not like you , they think you are stupid and they feel you are retart and living 7th century and they think they have wisdom . Peer pressure and watching silly hindi movies and immitating stupid things from and indian cultural ethos which is short name for degeneration. You fight hard like no TV here but you compromise to have radio. Any way fortunately I am through and i have not to put up with all nonsense of daughters and there whims and caprice. and they go fast and then do not want to write letters regularly ( I told them I do not consider emails as letter, i read and take out and junk it) I told them I want real letter on first of month by POST and written in hand no type thing.and they say they are busy which i do not accept at all. All boys and girls have become selfish and no attention , its stupid like feeding neighbours goat. Any way president has similar job no compliments but just compalaints and whining by third grade politicians, liberals and seculars.
PM complained to him regarding CJs intermingling in many things and improportionate wealth. What he can do , your prime minister MMS will have empathy as he has to dismiss corroupt ministers all time.
You should not take arjun seriously as he has ``agenda`` and enjoys misery and gloats about problems is sad thing.
Also this newspapers should stop put of videos as most want to read and see any thing. Reading makes you think . All videos are partisan and in had test.
Have good day.

I am beginning to think that a corner has indeed been turned.

When was the last time anybody saw Pakistani agitators demonstrating peacefully...

Without weapons.

Resisting atrocity.

With nothing but their own bodies...

Taking the hits and the blows...

It reminds me of somebody from the subcontinent.

Who used the same technique very effectively, a while ago.

Perhaps the Pakistanis have finally come to realize the merit of the technique and appreciate its power.

``President General Pervez Musharraf has said a conspiracy is being hatched against him and the country over the reference against the chief justice of Pakistan. ``

after a pause he elaborated:

the conspiracy was hatched -- by the Prime minister -- Minister of Information -- Minister of Railways and that foul mouth bugger the Law Minister -- they all made me do this -- it was not my idea -- it was the forked tongue Bank-Tellers` idea to malign me -- who in cahoot with the CJ told the non functional CJ not to resign......if you don`t believe me ask the Geo TV how the anti-mushrraf polic destroyed their studio and busted their heads and smashed their cameras.

Folks save me from the attacks of my potted plant Shaukat Aziz....Help me Help!

Re: # 103
Its time make go home by lawyers and let country return to normal. All this tamasha was added by foreign forces and lawyers were victim. President has right to seek out suspected corroupt judge and judge has right to fair trial. Both are assured by president. Hope president looks at his advisors and some heads should roll. Also he should ask pm to refrain from complaining to president against judges. President is forced to take action if PM complains to him legally. When one is president even if pm made mistake, politicians try to destroy president who is head of state is sad. Also people cheering left and liberals who support the taking law in hand and lawyers throwing bricks to kill police will repent if extremists take on. Hope these people troublemakers will understand problems can be settled in courts not by rabble rousing and hooligans. Then can study manto aka yal how he articulated his point of view for world readers of bbc, clear cold logic and humanity and articulation with decency and no incitement against anybody but advice to follow 1973 constitution.

#104 Ahmedmadani

Sir, I understand your good intentions.

Forgive me if I am selective about what constitutes ``good deeds`` and real sacrifice.

When I see these folks getting beaten up as I see in those pictures (as, for example, that hapless lawyer being manhandled in #100) – now that’s sacrifice!

On the other hand, running one’s mouth on a forum – whether here on this website or on BBC – that is not sacrifice – perhaps running one’s mouth comes to some people naturally!

Also perhaps naturally comes the hypocrisy ….

Of refusing to see what these agitators are trying to accomplish – who are fighting without weapons and resisting without hitting back with their own bodies alone – using the only technique under the sky which has even the remotest chance of working in your land of Pakistan…

Forgive me if I do not make too much of those who bask in the role of the cheerleaders of such individuals who are getting beaten up – and, at the same time, unhesitatingly bad-mouth the person who brought that very concept to the subcontinent!

Forgive me if I refuse to call such duplicity a “good deed”, for – to me, the term “hypocrisy” appears more accurate!

Biharis Refuse Repatriation to Pakistan

By Abul Qasim Muhammad Shamsul Haque
The Bangladesh Observer
17 March, 2007

Dacca, Bangladesh: Shaikh Muhammad Nur is a leader of the Bihari community - which is a term commonly used to refer to the thousands of Pakistanis stranded in Bangladesh since the surrender of Pakistani forces in 1971.

After watching the World Cup one day cricket match between Pakistan and Ireland, a dejected Mr. Nur announced that his community would refuse any repatriation to Pakistan. ``We knew that the Pakistanis were cowards when they surrendered in humiliation to the victorious Indian Army in 1971. What we did not know is that they were also HijRa losers. It was bad enough that they saved their own skins by surrendering in 1971, but they also abandoned us to the cruel retribution of the Mukhti Bahini. Now they have again demonstrated their inherent cowardice by losing to the Irish cricket team. From now on we will cheer for our Bangladeshi team, which has been victorious with grace and skill. Furthermore, we refuse to go back to our ancient homeland of Bihar, because we want to be associated with victors and not losers.``

Mr. Nur congratulated the Bangladesh national cricket team upon a great victory and prayed for its continued success in the World Cup. He also said ``These Pakistanis always act like the dark-skinned Sudanese ``Arabs`` who somehow justify their persecution and killing of the slightly darker fellow Muslims of Darfur. The Pakistanis discriminated against Bengalis and Biharis who are only slightly darker than themselves. Their continued defeat clearly proves that there is a God.``

There are unconfirmed reports of a significant increase in Bihari applications for asylum status in the Republic of Ireland.
