HP Sahib, isn`t it a fact that Ahmadis are persecuted in Pakistan? Hasn`t the state excommunicated them from the Islamic fold? How many Pakis have protested against this excommunication? Doesn`t it mean the majority of Pakis are OK with it?

That says it all, harish. On both sides, Ahmedi and non-Ahmedi. It`s religious only to the extent that religion and politics often overlap.

Most Muslims in Pakistan have no problem whatsoever with Ahmedis. There is no need for generalization and stereotyping.

Yaar Kaal, I always thought you were a sane, rational and likeable interactor, but you seem to be going overboard here..what`s wrong if Sattar wants to call himself a Muslim? You may not have a liking for identity, but that does not mean others don`t hold their identities close to their hearts. You are displaying the same intolerance that Muslims in Pakistan have displayed towards Ahmadis..can Islam be in threat just because Sattar considers himself a Muslim?

The reference there was to an entire logic system - which includes unique set of premises; but also the way of defining reality (basic propositions), separating fact from fiction, good/desirable from bad/undesirable (value system), understanding the effects and the operation of the self and the rest of the world (model of reality), etc. It`s an impressively finely tuned vast intellectual edifice - completely, radically different from (antithetical to) that of Hinduism, for instance, but extremely impressive in its own right. (and yes, Muhammad`s finality, as intelligent people like you would understand it, is one of its unremovable, nonnegotiable blocks).

The word `sincerity` was meant in all sincerity. Naturally, noone in their right mind will support random killing of all innocent people. But opinions will differ on, at any time, who or what is innocent, and who all are implicated in any great crime. Furthermore, when systems clash, when one system attempts to replace another, defense of all innocent lives cannot be the top priority (except for the system which harbors or can be deceived into harboring, a death-wish of its own).

By the way, within Islamic tradition, there is a time-honored, much valued notion of constant revolution (a sort of divinely mandated social jihad, except that it`s made perpetual). Systems don`t grow and spread and regenerate for nothing.
