Look, I`m an economist.
right...and you didn`t know the difference between amaranth and amarnath...which is why you said the failure of ``amarnath`` was proof of the failures of Indians in the west...
What are your comments about amarnath advisors who tanked $6 billion of investor funds and went belly up

the intangible benefits of a change in the image.
Even if we accept, and I don`t, that the deals only help in a change in image, a change in image is worth a lot...just look at all the money the pakis are spending on ads in the new york times to get a positive image..without much success, I might add...

Hamidm2#212:
“So far this year Indian firms have announced 34 foreign takeovers worth more than $10.7 billion in all”
This is somewhat off-tipic but, since you mentioned, the number is actually higher, the two deals mentioned by by themselves add to almost 20 billion. But I have a somewhat different take on these acquisitions. At one level, I agree that they are indicative of the strength of corporate India and their ability to be a world player and the world is indeed beginning to take notice. And if they are more than ego trips and based on well thought-out strategies, they can indeed make good money for the companies and their shareholders. But I am not too sure of their benefits to India, other than the intangible benefits of a change in the image. These acquisitions are not going to add substantially to jobs in India, except for a few headquarter jobs and supportive jobs for bankers and lawyers (and indeed some consultants :-)). The bulk of the jobs are going to remain off-shore. Even the addition to the Indian GDP will be small. As far as I know, this level of acquisition is unprecedented by any other country at a similar stage of development and is perhaps indicative of a lack of more profitable opportunities on home turf.

Khurram#186:
Thanks for that article. Could you please paste the excerpt which says that there should be no earthly punishment for apostacy? It’s a long article and I have scanned through it but missed the relevant excerpt. BTW, have you seen Irshad Manji’s documentary “Faith without Fear”? It’s much better than her book, is well made and she also gives good opportunity to viewpoints other than her own.
I think that one important element is missing in our discussion. Individual Muslims can certainly interpret Islam in a liberal way, including as some do on chowk, suggesting that even the quran should not be taken literally but to be followed only in its essential message. But when it comes to an Islamic state, it would have no such liberty. If they could, the Saudi leaders probably would have by now have OBL declared non-muslim for all the pain that he has caused them. The British imperial rulers and, indeed, the Hindu Princes also did not have any such freedom and they had appointed Muftis to issue official fatwa whenever a controversy arose. The Islamic State, in forming its laws, would have to defer to the experts for the legitimacy of any laws and these experts would come from places like Deoband and Qoom and these institutions are unlikely to produce the likes of tahmed or khurram, let alone hamidm. The power of literalists was proven in the 10th century when Muzalites –true Muslim liberals- were decisively defeated by the orthodoxy.
However, if a constitution was to be inspired by, instead of constrained by, the quran, all kinds of interpretations would be possible.

We are God, but we are not to PLAY God. Even Krishna was not vain enough to stop the Mahabharat. Ultimately he had to tell the Pandavas: Go and Prepare, Drona, Bhishma, and all other beloved people notwithstanding.

I AM the real KAAL; and I see with satisfaction that lessons of history are never learnt by reasonable people who refuse to give up unreasonable expectations. :)

Leave my little sis alone!
She has her heart in the right place!
Now go check on your own!

I think sometimes in despondence that reasonable people fight this battle against those who refuse to see reason just as reasonable people have done over the centuries...
...in vain!
Only time (the REAL kaal) and its (bitter) lessons leave any permanent impressions - and even those are like sand impressions!

Zeena...I`m surprised that you`re even showing your face after being busted for plagiarism...have you ever had an original thought...ever?

Little sis, I am sorry - but there is no way to sugarcoat what I said in #238 and I am not sure it is a good idea to do so.
Ciao.

Yes, there is NO such thing as Talibans in Pakistan. This term is used for Afghani American soldiers who were trained to fight with USSR.............And that`s the fact.
You do not need to protect me from anything. My God(Almigthy) is always there to protect me. And you do not need to convince me by showing me any of these pictures.
Trust me, you do not gain anything, but, resiprocal hate, if, you`ll continue your hateful propaganda against Pakistani Muslims..............
You`re another Indian Taliban...........and that`s the fact........
Well, bj kumar
Rather if you need protection , I can offer you a protection....trust me I do not need any support or help from any of you guys who are full of hate/extremism/fascism/fundos/Talibanism/racism.
Why will I need your support , when it is clear that you`re extremely bigot..................
And, if, you really wish to help ........get out of your house, go to India and help your poor and oppressed Indians who are still deprived of the basic needs of their lives..............
Sitting here, convincing me , wasting your precious time doesn`t make any sense................
LOL.............just think about it......

(Enter the Zeena)
Zeena(Z): There is NO such thing as Talibans in Pakistan...
The Guardian: A powerful new militia dubbed ``the Pakistani Taliban`` has effectively seized control of swaths of the country`s northern tribal areas in recent months, triggering alarm in Islamabad and marking a big setback in America`s ``war on terror``.
Z: It is Indians’ fault. They use this term to belittle all Pakistanis.
Wikipedia: The Taliban, or Taleban, (Pashto: ``students,`` literally seekers of knowledge) are a Sunni puritanical Muslim and Pashtun movement that ruled most of Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, and are currently engaged in a protracted guerrilla war against NATO forces and their local allies within Afghanistan. While in power in Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan gained diplomatic recognition from only three states: the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. Beneath Mullah Mohammed Omar, the leader of the movement, were village mullahs (junior Islamic religious scholars), most of whom had studied in Islamic religious schools in Pakistan. Almost 98% of the Taliban movement was derived from the Pashtuns of southern Afghanistan and north-western Pakistan, but it also included a small percentage of non-Pashtun volunteers from Eurasia to China.
Z: Why will I receive any fatwas for me? Only crazy sociopaths like Taslima do.
Wikipedia: The Taliban became notorious for their treatment of women. Women were forced to wear the burqa in public; were not allowed to work; were not allowed to be educated after the age of eight, and until then were permitted only to study the Qur`an; were not allowed to be treated by male doctors unless accompanied by a male chaperon; and faced public flogging and execution for violations of the Taliban`s laws
Z: If I shut my eyes real hard and beat up on that BJ Kumar, the Taliban will disappear!

Sattar bhai,
From what my master told me, the difference between you and him is not that you insist on carrying out all your Jihadi activities in a suit while he doesn`t care if he is wearing a suit or an achakan. The difference is fundamental. You are still working hard spinning stories to finalize the meaning the world ``final,`` while he is final about the finality of your non-Islam.

Don`t be silly, sattar bhai, even if Zee and I were in the business of Jihad-by-suicide-bombings-ALONE, we could be perfect Jihadis by preparing others to carry out the good deed. God made teachers, coaches, and leaders for a purpose.
Why would wearing a suit and taking bath keep anyone from meeting this obligation, where needed? They might even make it easier, helping collect more funds, and dealing with dumb liberals.
