[Globalization has stressed all relationships.]

I do not know if stressed is the right word here. The worst kind of relationship is where a husband and wife are living on two different continents. That to me is the most stupid form of a relationship/companionship. It`s better not to get into marriage than be in this kind of a relationship. Why can`t people find their spouses where they live? I am not referring to the labor class here. I am talking about the educated idiots who land up with better-halves in different parts of the world and then expect them to become a new person the next day.

Having two friends make this mistake recently, I think it`s real important for parents to be realistic and stop hammering on preserving any cultural or for that matter religious identity. What`s more important at the end? To have a companion in life and not to have a liability and emotional trauma hovering over one`s head. Both of my female friends are supporting their spouses financially since they have the upper hand. I won`t blame globalization here. I would blame lack of farsightedness despite having all the global resources at one`s beck and call.

Nasim - When you get a chance, do watch Kate and Leopold. Whenever I read your articles, I am reminded of Leopold :) It`s an old movie, but was playing on TBS in the past few weekends. You may actually enjoy it. It`s also about human relationships.

I will be back with my serious notes :)

Thanks.

I stopped reading after the following:

``Not long ago, human society was settled and people were living for generations in small villages, towns and cities. Very few left their familiar surroundings. They stayed in ancestral homes even when faced with financial hardships. Humanity was tied to various tribes, clans and extended family.

Beginning with the early twentieth century when the huge colonial empires emerged, people began to move. The imperial powers sent out representatives all across the world to rule far away places and control the colonies.``

1. Romans, Indians, Arabs, Mongols ...... were doing what?
2. The Potugese, Spanish, Dutch etc. were hot `huge` colonial empires?
3. How big was the slave trade?

.....etc. etc.
