Re: # 27

The people you are constantly getting consumed with have no mind and no conscience. And that`s a hallmark of a sick society. Why would you invest your energies with sick people? Shouldn`t healthy and constructive ideas and people attract you more provided you are healthy yourself? On the other end, there is also an interesting quote by a famous literary figure:
``There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.``

I feel real honored to be commended for my sincere objectivity. I just hope that good feeling lasts longer than anticipated :)

Note: Life is full of adventures, new avenues, pleasant experiences and beauty. Move on.

I commend you for your sincere quest for objectivity. Please note the following thread started by Ali_1. I believe there has been no instigation from Nadia Zehra to deserve such unprovoked behavior from someone who proclaims the superiority of Punjabi culture. Obviously, migration to the west has not affected this proud ``Son of the Soil.``

I looked at the thread mentioned and found no reason to use such abusive language. I have located the Movie but still have not seen it. After I watch the movie then I will comment on Leopold.

It is very difficult to judge a person from his writing. Once I wrote an article in the Islamic magazine called The Message. The people who read it started calling me Maulana.

Before year 1997, I never wrote anything non technical. Being a technical person, I always wrote technical articles for Hydrocarbon Processing and it was always time consuming.

it is a truth universally acknowledged that most of the emigration is from third world to first, but there is also some from first world to first as well. it has been estimated that up to 15000 french young people come to uk every year. there is an area in london where lot of them live it is called ``frog pond`` by the local brits what ever that means.

Nasim - I am really surprised at your recommendation. You are taking things at the face value. Not a very analytical approach to evaluate any situation. Leopold would never have done that :) You do not know what made a person react in a certain way. You also do not know who initiated an uncivil exchange. Not that I follow the ongoing shenanigans, but I do believe that one should try to see both sides of the coin. Something to consider before prescribing your next recommendation.

Re: # 8

Good points.

To take it a step further, I have issues when the parents sitting in India try to control the lives of their children all over the world when it comes to marriage. Secondly, when the south asian parents become the 1st generation immigrants in other parts of the world and do not instill in their children the value of diversity and globalization, that`s a killer. As a result, those children may live a quality life but are not able to progress in their approach and continue with the baggage of their parents` expectations. Instead of exercising options and making choices for themselves, they end up being slaves of their parents` or elders` expectations. And that`s where we crush that spirit that could have risen higher and gone farther than anticipated.

Frankly I do not understand the level of abusive language. On the internet we can always have difference of opinion but we cannot trample over the rights of other people.

So the people who use such language must be under lot of stress. The stress can be unemployment, crowded home, cities, poverty, abusive parents etc. Such things are prevalent in all third world countries.

Once or twice I also encountered such people on the Internet. I simply appologized and stopped the conversation.

So with all negatives going around in this World, I am optimistic. Nasim

Nasim,
Thank you for your optimism concerning human relationships as expanding globalization has its effect. Just as an example of people bringing their excess baggage as they migrate to the west, I am repeating a thread I started on Unplugged. Please excuse the vulgar language from Stuka that I have quoted - this profanity is pertinent to the point that I am making about a ``Clash of Civilizations.``

Ali, Stuka, Burpy, Atif, Chacha 32, MukhtaraaN Mai, gang rape, Punju culture - some observations

Started by Salim_Chauhan on March 28, 2007 6:39am PT

For several days now, I have been observing the behavior of some outspoken Punjus on Chowk. The common thread in their behavior and sexually explicit posts has been the desire to inflict sexual violence on my female family members - including my infant daughter. Please note the following:

***************************************************
{``#11 by stuka on March 24, 2007 1:02pm PT
Salim Maaderchod, randi kee aulad, bhen chod, baawarchi hoon Bhadwa nahin...jaa key bech apni maa bhabhi aur biwi kee ohuddiyan apney atlanta waaley strip club mey..teri laundia kitney saal kee hai? u can sell her pussy to a pedophile as well...

#20 by stuka on March 24, 2007 1:19pm PT
Chauhan, teri maa chodney key liyey I can talk properly.

#21 by stuka on March 24, 2007 1:20pm PT
Salim Chuhan: No, but I would like to get in to the anus of your daughter and butt fuck her till she bleeds. Can I do that on her 18th birthday?

Indian team bhenchod saaley
Started by stuka on March 23, 2007 2:56pm PT
Inkee maa kee choot, harami saaley bhencod. ``}
*************************************************

Now, Ali1 has used even more descriptive and sexually violent language to impose the superiority of Punju culture. Others, including the hypocritical sage and even a ``Sikh`` have demonstrated their heritage as well.

When the sad MukhtaraN Mai incident of horrible Panchayat-sanctioned gang rape occurred in Punjab, I was outraged at the culprits but I could not comprehend the motivation for the crime.

Reading these Punjus` sexually violent rhetoric, my reaction changed from anger, to outrage, to compassion, and finally to understanding. I now understand why so many Punjus resort to violent and abusive threats toward the female relatives of their male opponents. Somehow, they perceive that this act, whether physical or verbal, somehow gives them a sense of ``victory`` over their adversaries. These threats cannot be equated to my own ten-fold retaliations against both males and females - targeted directly against my opponents, who normally initiate the abusive exchanges. Yes, I do not distinguish between female and male adversaries on Chowk - considering the need for gender equality and the use of so many multiple nicks appearing as both males and females.

The gang-rape of Mukhtaran Mai in a Punju village was not for some devious form of sexual gratification or even voyeurism - it was merely a Punju way of retrieving their honor. Gang rape the sister of the boy who had a liaison with the daughter of an upper class girl and you have preserved your ``honor.``

This is not an isolated case of merely misdirected revenge. This behavior is pervasive all over Punjab and is the reason behind ``honor`` killings, gang rapes, karo kari, and other such despicable behavior. Even the 1947 massive and macabre love fest among Punjabi Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs involved numerous cases of naked women forced to march, gang rapes, throats of women being slit in places of worship, sending pots full of circumcised organs to claim ``victory`` in numbers. Just read the accounts of partition violence in the book by Collins & LaPierre, ``Freedom at Midnight,`` in the chapter entitled ``Our People Have Gone Mad.``

Considering all these facts, I now feel sorry for those who have to resort to such behavior - merely to ``vindicate`` their lost honor. I feel even more pessimistic about Urdu-speaking Mohajirs and other less violent minorities having to live in the same country as these people. You can put only so many of them on a reservation - eventually they will return to their traditional behavior.

So, Ali, Stuka, Burpy Chacha 32 and other myopic little Punjus, there is nothing you can do to me or my family other than post verbal threats of sexual violence. I am just glad that I do not have to live among you - especially as a member of a defenseless minority. Please do carry on - you are providing more support for my statements about Punju culture and civilization. Yes, indeed we do have a Clash of Civilizations in Pakistan.

“The challenges of today should be turned into opportunities of tomorrow. Only then can we proudly welcome expanding globalization in this interconnected world”.

CHALLENGES MUST BE TAKEN ON LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.
Globalisation today in general is equated to Americanisation or The G8 monopoly. How many Coffee factories does Kenya, the best coffee-bean producing country, or Ghana the Cocoa producing country own in the West?
Why is the southren hemisphere stempeding to migrate to the northern half if globalisation was such a good thing under its present form?

Re: # 9

Thanks for kind comments. I have also lived upto six months in various countries of Africa, Middle East and Europe. I have seen first hand how the South Asian live in Middle East.

I have also observed families where the husband lives in the Middle East and family is in Pakistan. It is not few years, it is decades. Kids education, home and living expenses force these people to live far away from their families.

I have also observed my own relatives who came to the USA and it took more than ten years to get their families here.

Although my opionions are biased and subjective but I never write about anything that does not have factual foundations. Nasim

Re: # 6 ZahraJ

I will try to look up Kate and Leopold in the local video store or perhaps in the library. It does not surprise me at all. Quartul Ain Haider has written a novel, `` Aag Ka Darya``. In this novel she starts with certain characters in prehistoric India.

The same characters appear in different times over centuries in changed circumstances. Their thinking, feeling, emotions are exactly the same and they end up doing the same things over and over again.

So the similarities will always be there between people.

I will certainly let you know my thoughts about the movie if I can find it.

#5 - my point exactly.

``This world belongs to the whole human race and all living beings. ``

Then it is a good thing that the human race has chosen to lead more international lives. One son in Australia, the other in Europe and the parents in India- it’s a wonderful story. The parents have raised their sons to be independent and explore a world greater than themselves; therefore expanding their knowledge and souls and collecting experiences, making these individuals far more interesting human beings.

Globalization also implies the disappearance of nationalities and borders and the localization of cultures. What should it matter now, where human beings live- I say we should terminate boundaries and the useless parade of nationalism. It`s got us nowhere in the last two hundred years, where will it get us now?

Let`s attempt at being citizens of the world- see where it leads us!

[Globalization has stressed all relationships.]

I do not know if stressed is the right word here. The worst kind of relationship is where a husband and wife are living on two different continents. That to me is the most stupid form of a relationship/companionship. It`s better not to get into marriage than be in this kind of a relationship. Why can`t people find their spouses where they live? I am not referring to the labor class here. I am talking about the educated idiots who land up with better-halves in different parts of the world and then expect them to become a new person the next day.

Having two friends make this mistake recently, I think it`s real important for parents to be realistic and stop hammering on preserving any cultural or for that matter religious identity. What`s more important at the end? To have a companion in life and not to have a liability and emotional trauma hovering over one`s head. Both of my female friends are supporting their spouses financially since they have the upper hand. I won`t blame globalization here. I would blame lack of farsightedness despite having all the global resources at one`s beck and call.

I stopped reading after the following:

``Not long ago, human society was settled and people were living for generations in small villages, towns and cities. Very few left their familiar surroundings. They stayed in ancestral homes even when faced with financial hardships. Humanity was tied to various tribes, clans and extended family.

Beginning with the early twentieth century when the huge colonial empires emerged, people began to move. The imperial powers sent out representatives all across the world to rule far away places and control the colonies.``

1. Romans, Indians, Arabs, Mongols ...... were doing what?
2. The Potugese, Spanish, Dutch etc. were hot `huge` colonial empires?
3. How big was the slave trade?

.....etc. etc.
