Thank you for your optimism concerning human relationships as expanding globalization has its effect. Just as an example of people bringing their excess baggage as they migrate to the west, I am repeating a thread I started on Unplugged. Please excuse the vulgar language from Stuka that I have quoted - this profanity is pertinent to the point that I am making about a ``Clash of Civilizations.``

Ali, Stuka, Burpy, Atif, Chacha 32, MukhtaraaN Mai, gang rape, Punju culture - some observations

For several days now, I have been observing the behavior of some outspoken Punjus on Chowk. The common thread in their behavior and sexually explicit posts has been the desire to inflict sexual violence on my female family members - including my infant daughter. Please note the following:

Now, Ali1 has used even more descriptive and sexually violent language to impose the superiority of Punju culture. Others, including the hypocritical sage and even a ``Sikh`` have demonstrated their heritage as well.

When the sad MukhtaraN Mai incident of horrible Panchayat-sanctioned gang rape occurred in Punjab, I was outraged at the culprits but I could not comprehend the motivation for the crime.

Reading these Punjus` sexually violent rhetoric, my reaction changed from anger, to outrage, to compassion, and finally to understanding. I now understand why so many Punjus resort to violent and abusive threats toward the female relatives of their male opponents. Somehow, they perceive that this act, whether physical or verbal, somehow gives them a sense of ``victory`` over their adversaries. These threats cannot be equated to my own ten-fold retaliations against both males and females - targeted directly against my opponents, who normally initiate the abusive exchanges. Yes, I do not distinguish between female and male adversaries on Chowk - considering the need for gender equality and the use of so many multiple nicks appearing as both males and females.

The gang-rape of Mukhtaran Mai in a Punju village was not for some devious form of sexual gratification or even voyeurism - it was merely a Punju way of retrieving their honor. Gang rape the sister of the boy who had a liaison with the daughter of an upper class girl and you have preserved your ``honor.``

This is not an isolated case of merely misdirected revenge. This behavior is pervasive all over Punjab and is the reason behind ``honor`` killings, gang rapes, karo kari, and other such despicable behavior. Even the 1947 massive and macabre love fest among Punjabi Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs involved numerous cases of naked women forced to march, gang rapes, throats of women being slit in places of worship, sending pots full of circumcised organs to claim ``victory`` in numbers. Just read the accounts of partition violence in the book by Collins & LaPierre, ``Freedom at Midnight,`` in the chapter entitled ``Our People Have Gone Mad.``

Considering all these facts, I now feel sorry for those who have to resort to such behavior - merely to ``vindicate`` their lost honor. I feel even more pessimistic about Urdu-speaking Mohajirs and other less violent minorities having to live in the same country as these people. You can put only so many of them on a reservation - eventually they will return to their traditional behavior.

So, Ali, Stuka, Burpy Chacha 32 and other myopic little Punjus, there is nothing you can do to me or my family other than post verbal threats of sexual violence. I am just glad that I do not have to live among you - especially as a member of a defenseless minority. Please do carry on - you are providing more support for my statements about Punju culture and civilization. Yes, indeed we do have a Clash of Civilizations in Pakistan.

Frankly I do not understand the level of abusive language. On the internet we can always have difference of opinion but we cannot trample over the rights of other people.

So the people who use such language must be under lot of stress. The stress can be unemployment, crowded home, cities, poverty, abusive parents etc. Such things are prevalent in all third world countries.

Once or twice I also encountered such people on the Internet. I simply appologized and stopped the conversation.

So with all negatives going around in this World, I am optimistic. Nasim

How many Coffee factories does Kenya, the best coffee-bean producing country, or Ghana the Cocoa producing country own in the West?


And whose fault is that? If Tata can pick up Corus or LNM can pick up Arcelor, nothing stops Kenya from doing the same...

Good points.

To take it a step further, I have issues when the parents sitting in India try to control the lives of their children all over the world when it comes to marriage. Secondly, when the south asian parents become the 1st generation immigrants in other parts of the world and do not instill in their children the value of diversity and globalization, that`s a killer. As a result, those children may live a quality life but are not able to progress in their approach and continue with the baggage of their parents` expectations. Instead of exercising options and making choices for themselves, they end up being slaves of their parents` or elders` expectations. And that`s where we crush that spirit that could have risen higher and gone farther than anticipated.

Nasim - I am really surprised at your recommendation. You are taking things at the face value. Not a very analytical approach to evaluate any situation. Leopold would never have done that :) You do not know what made a person react in a certain way. You also do not know who initiated an uncivil exchange. Not that I follow the ongoing shenanigans, but I do believe that one should try to see both sides of the coin. Something to consider before prescribing your next recommendation.

it is a truth universally acknowledged that most of the emigration is from third world to first, but there is also some from first world to first as well. it has been estimated that up to 15000 french young people come to uk every year. there is an area in london where lot of them live it is called ``frog pond`` by the local brits what ever that means.

It is very difficult to judge a person from his writing. Once I wrote an article in the Islamic magazine called The Message. The people who read it started calling me Maulana.

Before year 1997, I never wrote anything non technical. Being a technical person, I always wrote technical articles for Hydrocarbon Processing and it was always time consuming.

The people you are constantly getting consumed with have no mind and no conscience. And that`s a hallmark of a sick society. Why would you invest your energies with sick people? Shouldn`t healthy and constructive ideas and people attract you more provided you are healthy yourself? On the other end, there is also an interesting quote by a famous literary figure:
``There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.``

I feel real honored to be commended for my sincere objectivity. I just hope that good feeling lasts longer than anticipated :)
