Mohammad Shouka, I sympathize with you about the trauma that you and your family have suffered. Regarding how you will represent Pakistan, and concerning your feelings about the country, I must say to you that you have to distinguish between the country of Pakistan and the state of Pakistan. The state of Pakistan, presently captured by the army, is brutalizing the nation for the past 7 years. Treatment that has been meted out to you is what has been given to many people. The army has captured the assets of our country, bullied its institutions, harassed its people, silenced them, and terrorized them. Army rule does not belong to a positive future of Pakistan. We have to work together to end the ruel of the army and bring about self-rule. We will not get this handed to us on a plate.

When partition happened, every Muslim who migrated to Pakistan thought he would be a king there. So Price, its time for some humility

OK, in all honesty, I have no respect for Pakistan Army, especially at the Brigadier and above level. I think they are kanjars for the most part who make poor young folks go fight a jehad while their own chilluns are escoported to school be the batman.

Having said that, how different is your story from that of any other kid who got lightly tapped around by the police? Its just that in your country, Army is involved in domestic affairs hence it was involved in slapping you around. In case Pak Army had never taken over, the police would have come and done the needful.

So, what are you unhappy about?

That it was the Army and not the police that beat you up? If so, does it matter?

Or are you unhappy that you were beaten up? If so, how do you feel entitled to not getting beaten up by authority while living in Pakistan? Isn`t that a common enuff occurence?

I put my money where my mouth is..I have been beaten by police in india two different occasions. No problems. My expectation from police is that I will be beaten up. Such is life. Hence, because I want to live in dignity, I moved to America.

Lesson: Either get outraged whenever someone is beaten up in Pakistan. Or, if you think that is futile, accept that you will be beaten up. Or, move to America. U can live your life in dignity here.

Re: # 20
it is fair to be outraged about being beaten up. you can either move, and make your life, and make a contribution from abroad if you wish, or you can stay and try and change things.

I completely agree with gmh on this, he/she nailed the problem. You think you got it bad kid, try wearing the shoes of people who are more intelligent than you and I but can`t afford to go to school. You really think that if you`d been born in a very poor family you`d be going to the same school?

The issue here isnt about them being right to abuse you and your family. The real issue is on ignorance on either side. Don`t get carried away by the status of your family, where you go to school, or where you live. Because quite frankly all this can change overnight.

Why are you insulting India for no reason? It is because of your hatred of India and hindus, that your army is so powerful and kicks your butt.

Re: # 5 Ranjit Sahib...... In many aspects India has more problems than any plave in world. Now problem with indian arttitude is use of wrong focus. Now people like Arjun is always looking for ``problems in PK`` and when he sees little he looks through microscope and it really looks big. On otherhand he looks at indian ``problems`` with reverse Telescope so problems appear small. Now for your information the worst job politican person can have is becoming VazireAzam of India and second worst is mayor of Afghanistan. Now this is said by nce American gentleman and he is right 200%. India has so much problems some human right people want to collect money for starving children of india and light weight men and women of India just bone no meat on bodies. Why such situation you think is there in India where fair minded pakistanis want to help indian children ? Can you answer plaese sir ?

Listen I feel bad for the ordeal you`ve been through. But I strongly feel that part of the problem lies in our people not having respect for the law. You openly admit that there was a ``violation`` as per the DHA rules, and that you had been avoiding it for a while. Please tell us how many times you were informed of the violation and how many opportunities were you given to fix the problem? Not that I`m trying to justify their behaviour, but don`t make it sound like it was an unprovoked attack you went through.

Had you been a truly law abiding citizen, you (or your family) would have either fixed the violation the DHA was claiming, or you would have let them do their job.

Gauging from the background you`ve given (similar to mine), well-to-do kid from an elite school, I imagine you must have misbehaved with the visiting vigilantes to have provoked their attacks. I`ve lived in the country for a while and I know how things work, there must have definitely been a ``you don`t know whose son I am`` that provoked this...

In any case those buggers should be taught a lesson, but you, my friend, should learn to respect authority and abide by the law of the land...

:(

There is a lot of information missing. Were you given warnings to remove the work?
How many? Was your work legal? If it was not, why was it not removed by you?
If there was a chance that this was a possible outcome, why did your family not resolve this promptly?

What IS the relevant law in Pakistan? Did they need a court order to do this?

In UK, where I live, you can`t have any work carried out to a property even if it belongs to you, without asking the planning authorities. If it is a rented property, you have to ask the owners permission, who can only agree with it, if no planning permission from authorities is required for such work. It does not matter one little bit that YOU think the work is needed.
If authorised people turn up to remove such work, and they were obstructed or used bad language against, they WOULD be arrested.

As a added BONUS afterwards, they would also send you a nice bill for their repairwork, to put the property back to it`s original state!

Re: # 4

I agree with gmh007, DHA is pretty strict in its rules and regulations and don`t let go anyone,

the writer remarks
``My brother and I tried to stop them from creating a scene like they have done so many times. We protested and called our father, who had already talked to the people behind the engineering operation in DHA. However, these people did not agree to our requests to stop. They told us `` this is not your house`` and `` we can do whatever we want``, to which my brother and I resisted saying that this is against the law and not right. These retired army officers now part of DHA security threatened to break our legs and ``take care`` of us, to which my brother and I resisted again.``

are not as simple resisting they must have provocked them with abusive language and might been physical with them as he says we resisted .. though it could be dealt in a better way but the complainant is not not-guilty either.

Re: # 4

ah pahleez, spare us with the lecture on `respect for law`. How do you expect people to have respect for law when public officials - municiple workers in this case - communicate with you by kicking in your groin. At the most police should have done in such case was to arrest the people in the house for causing disturbance or interfering with an authority of law; in the later case only if the operation was sanctioned by court. But a whole swat team surrounding a house with a mother and two teen age sons; police beating them up while they were down on the ground; harrassing the bejesus out of citizens means that government institutions have failed. Fauji thugs have caused Pakistan to become a failed state. The society has disintegrated into the law of jungle where poor, weak, and vulnerable have been pushed down the food chain. The only solution to get back our society back from these bastards in power is by using force. Those at the helm must be guilotined. Yes, they have bigger guns than us, but remember we are the people.

Re: # 4

Wow wow. You created a whole fairy tale of how this poor guy might have done something absolutely horrible to deserve this all.

Next thing you would blame him for be alive and not breathing according to the army`s wish.

I bet your chacha, mama taya, phuppa`s are all in army and wag their tails when they hear musharraf`s name.

I am sorry to hear about your ordeal but currently Musharraf needs our all out support in this tough time in this time of crisis. Anything against the army will be construed against musharraf which is against the greater good of nation and may lead to you being branded as a traitor.

I think you should leave the country, become an expatriate like us and sing the praise of current government because its promoting a positive image of the country with a few exceptions like you.

I feel so appalled at reading about the ordeal that you and your family went through. The downfall of these Gestapo, fascist, enlightened moderate m/fukrs is near. They have turned our society into jungle and people into vicious animals. Talk to the sisters of Hafsa College; they might be able to help you out. Enough is enough.
