Arrey mian jee,
Aap to naraaj ho gaye!
Tauba! Itna ghussa achchhaa nahin!
Kripya Sri Jinnah ki tasweer se duikhee na hon!
To copy the great Hamidm2 - let me remonstrate you the way HE got remonstrated:
``Arrey bewakoofon, aaj tum sab jo kuchh bhee ho - usee sax ke wazah se ho!``
Alternately, just look at that porcine pic and sing...
Jo baat tujh mein hai
Teri tasweer - mein nahin!
Jo rang khaki mein hai
Hari tadbeer - mein nahin!

Salim Sahib:
You have put forward a boldness in your essay that must be supported. There is a need to breakway from the mindset of your grandparents and parents generation who only saw problems and therefore, missed opportunities.
``Kashmir is not our problem.``, this is a questionable vision whether it comes from you or from Farzana who is trying in the same old mindset to distribute problem.
We all must start seeing it as an opportunity. For example, can spend time to allocate opportunities about Kashmir, instead of distributing problems about it. A lot of good will be achieved. There is opportunity galore in South Asia.
When we stop seeing problems, distributing problems, and instead start seeing opportunities, south Asia will have greater achievements through your generation. All of which will be without Jinnah`s TNT or Hindu Mahasabha`s Atut-Ang, or all of which now belong in the heap of time.
To me, Farzana`s iLog indeed puts forward a visionary definition of Fatwa. That fatwa is an advisory.
Therefore, it cannot be an edict to kill, as has been the common belief in the world based on an earlier instance. People like you and her owe it to your belief systems, and start a debate to convince likes of Urstruly, Zeemax to Ballukhan to Hamidm`s to accept this peaceful definition of Fatwa. The other problem, as I see, is Jihad, which should also be defined in peaceful terms. When there is enough support there may be a need to enforce peaceful transforamtions of basic tenets of this belief system. That is how reforms start. As I see Musharraff is trying to do this, whatever his means are, he needs support from both muslim and non-muslim communities. This is how I see enlightened moderation.

Karachi state of mind is unique in Pakistan and Karachi will leave the rest of Pakistan behind, because in Karachi, there is a new sense of awareness and that sense of awareness translates into the idea that time is money.
Karachi is a city in the midst of a violent evolution and transition and the immediate problem confronting Karachi is one of developing the city after a neglect of nearly half a century or more and once that is done, the attention will turn towards the issues of law and order. Law and order cannot be reality when the people are not offered anything and ahve yo think of bread and butter instead of security and hence, Karachi`s main task is to develop economically, without waiting for handouts from Islamabad because the people of Karachi have understood the reality of living in Pakistan; they are Pakistanis but they are not treated as Pakistanis. Karachi, as a casual visitor will inform, has developed its own personality and despite the mayhem, there is money flowing into Karachi and with money, the jobs are also coming to Karachi.
There is a marked rhyme to life in Karachi and this rhyme is different from the rest of Pakistan and leadership of MQM has understood it. It is because of this new realization, that there has a been shift in the rhetoric of MQM from a political party of ethnic confrontation to one of an urban reconcilation. The MQM has changed from its street fighting days into one of a national party, with a much more balanced view and it is now openly canvassing the national political scene and more importantly, is being considered as a national party of consequence. The patterns of monetary inflows into Karachi, from the Gulf, have created a trend whereby Karachi, political, socially and economically, has become an alien city in Pakistan and is now preparing to march to its own drums; of economic autonomy from Punjab dominated politics of Pakistan and it will be this rhyme, which set Karachi apart from the rest of nation.
Ciao

No, Khurram Sahib, not only I did not know this, but the world around does not know it. My, I could say all others, knoweledge about Fatwa is from Salman Rusdhie`s time.

Is this for real? Long video but watch it to see where Karachi is headed but it sounds fishy to me…
“The entire Clifton Bay beach is to be developed and then linked to Manora Island by a bridge. This real estate development will continue along Sandspit and Hawkes bay where the Sugar City is to be constructed.
The Manora Island is then said to also house a five star hotel and this island will later be linked to Keamari with a bridge and the development is to continue along the coast up to the DHA golf club. On a causal look it appears to be a great initiative.”
Btw, I am told that the authorities have already told some people to vacate their huts and cabins at hawkes bay...

salim,
kaka hopes that you`ll forgive a fellow mohajir for being honest and kicking ass..
.
.
The rest of the readership are probably aware that a person of salim`s polished demeanor (wit/writing) and good fortune (Turkey/world travels) is not really crying out for help. Combine it with the IMMENSE faaltu time that he has for engaging people in unimaginably trivial issues and insults, there is the possibilty that he either is in a wheelchair on the top floor of an elevatorless tower.. or that he gets paid to put forward as real/imaginative an agenda for the mohajir affairs as possible. Someone may point out that we should discuss the issue and not the person. To that kaka says.. look at zeena or delhiwala! Nobody would pay these painDus to take up a cause and write for them .. but given salim`s demonstrated ability and the time that he has put in badmouthing perceived virtual enemies for the mohajir cause, it is possible that he makes someone proud. Therefore, in order to do a textual analysis, it does not hurt to do a source analysis to make sense of the text.
Now what is the article about? As a block, should Urdu speakers side with the one with the DunDa (thanks for a wonderful expose of choices) or the other? His recommendation: Neither (ohh the freedom from binary thought)! Why? Before we get there, this let us go through a litany of grievances which decides salim`s paycheck. Thanks for reading!
Unlike manto (a juvenile really) who may choose and present facts selectively in order to get his kicks, salim`s case is more sinister and pathetic than what HP describes.
Now there salim.. kaka made your qaum look good!

Do not get disheartened by haramzaada`s post. You have written a good article.
All that matters is you are able to write on FP and this SOB is unable to write even a one coherent sentence without personally attacking others.

zeena and delhiwala are not the topics of this article. You are not only shallow, pathetic, but, jealous of salim`s article being published on front page and you ARE UNABLE TO PRODUCE a single coherent line on chowk.com
What a waste of internet space.
Your trashy and abusive posts on un plugged are an open proof that you are Maha haramzaada.
You are just schizophrenic...........your own arse is kicked million times here and on other sites................why don`t you open your own web site naming it,`` kick haramzaada haramzaad`s arse one dozen times with filthy shoes for free``.

I think my favourite FV`s today`s i-log is about people like you
FV says,`` Nothing goes wasted if you don`t engage with wasters...``
So, keep on barking, I won`t waste few seconds of my precious time in responding a waste like you.

anil #: A fatwa is neither an law nor an advisory.......In Islam, a fatwa is nothing more than an opinion.......Any Muslim can pass a fatwa........It has no legal or religious or cultural or any other kind of binding in Islam........The reason being that in Islam, there is no religious hierarchy of any sort.......No one can claim importance or status or authority, based on religion........
In practical life, however, groups within Islam have developed their own hierarchies, and do tend to follow fatwas of someone whose opinion they consider to be better than others.......However, that is more of a political issue than a religious one.......This is also not a problem.......The problem starts when one group starts following fatwas regarding another group........Which is un-Islamic, by the way, but practiced a great deal.......

Salim, You are a brilliant writer and have even more brilliant sense of humor though sometimes, it is a problem to decide whether you are making a serious statement or just joking. This is like the central incident in famous film `Mera Naam Joker`, where hero`s(Raj Kapur) father and role model dies while performing a stunt in the circus and people clap ,thinking that this was just another performance by the joker.
This apart, I have a question about the term `Mohajir`, which, by definition means a person who migrates to another area/country. After the partition, majority of the migrated population of muslims into Pakistan came from east Punjab, but still the term mohajir is used for urdu speaking migrants who came from UP, Bihar or other states. Why is it so?
About the language, it is an established fact that Punjabi ruling elite have been the most ardent supporters of urdu (and opposed to Punjabi) compared to any other group in Pakistan. While the other provinces have their mother tongues as official languages and approved as medium of teaching in primary education (Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi), this is not so in Punjab(west).
A sindhi PM (ZAB) was prepared o make Punjabi as national language as it was and still is the language of the majority in Pakistan, but the opposition came from none other than the Punjabi ministers of his cabinet. Therefore the proposal was obviously dropped.
