{{Pakistan, at best, is an exercise in futility. In a worst case analysis, it holds the prospect for further strife, degeneration, continued attempts at more hegemony by a single province, more dismemberment, increased oppression, incessant terrorism, more bloodshed, and a catastrophic civil war}}.
Who will dismember Pakistan? Outside powers or internal forces? Increased oppression/ From whom? Directed against whom? What is your definition of degeneration? Your analysis (if we can call it that) sounds like an exercise in futility.

From Chowk Unplugged
{``#1 by Sobia on April 11, 2007 11:50pm PT
did u even read it? it`s crap, as usual...why does chowk publish such crappppppp on the front page, of these hate-spreading, racist, biggoted and evil vermin like salim choohay ki dum? ``}
The above is an example of the freedom of expression practiced by one such PPP liberal elitist. She is constantly complaining about the Mullahs and Mushy`s dictatorship. With such ideas about ``freedom,`` including a desire to ban publication of articles that she doesn`t agree with, is it any wonder that many of us trust these self-appointed guardians of ``democracy`` even less than the Mullahs and the military dictatorship?

Dear Friends,
I am glad to note that Mohajirs are ready for democracy whereas the self-styled born-again ``democrats`` of the PPP persuasion are definitely not ready.
I base this observation on the fact that the variety of viewpoints from Mohajirs has covered the spectrum from total agreement, to partial agreement, to some concerns, and to total disagreement with my perspective expressed in this article. This shows a level of maturity and tolerance.
Conversely, the Pakistani Punjabi interactors have almost all lined up in unison, with uniforms, to totally reject the contents - some have even questioned why this article was allowed to be published. They have taken a very jingoistic, ``my side is always right`` attitude that leaves no room for compromise or reconciliation.
Shades of Bangladesh. :(

Your Excellency,
I was just about ready to answer your valid questions until I read your last sentence. Any explanations that I may offer would seem to be an exercise in futility. :)

Zeena #190 {``#Salim Mian
What will you say about those Urdu speaking people who live in Punjab, Nwfp and other areas of Pakistan?
They do not wish to call themselves Muhagir....Will you NOT include them in your self created Muhagir group.
Muhajir term should be used for all Pakistanies then. All Pakistanies are immigrants and that logic applies to all of us.`}
Zeena sweetheart,
The term Mohajir is not some supreme title or even a term of exaltation. It is an inferior status imposed on migrants and their descendants by the mostly Punjabi power structure of Pakistan - enforced through unfair quotas and ridiculously offensive application forms. Mohajirs have circumvented some of these myopic and discriminatory regulations by seeking domicile elsewhere. Many have moved to NWFP, Lahore, the interior of Sindh, and Baluchistan. So, if you wish to be called a Mohajir and join us in our struggle to bring down the oppressive Pakistani Punjabi-dominated elitist power structure, you and other freethinkers like you are always welcome. Please join us. :)
By the way, I am not necessarily endorsing the platform of the Muttahida Qaumi Mahaz (MQM). We need to see how this party behaves in the upcoming farce we call ``democracy`` in Pakistan. If Altaf Bhai sells out to Bezamir or Besharif, in yet another stupid attempt at forming a coalition with the devil, I will consider him more than part and parcel of the tyrannical Paki establishment - I will consider him utterly stupid.
First time you make a fool out of me, shame on you. Second time you make a fool out of me, shame on me. :)

salim - that is not true - mohajirs call themselves as such - what was that MQM stood for again

#186, BJ Bhayya,
Honestly - consider this as friendly advice from a well-wisher and almost a fellow ``Bihari.`` :)
Please lay off the hard drugs! Now it`s more than obvious that you are more than stoned. Your interactions are making about as much sense as Atif`s fat fatwas concerning how much he is against homosexuality to the point that all he thinks about is his disdain for any compassion for his fellow man. :) Just change the word ``homosexuality`` to ``lunacy`` and you will understand.

Zeena #185,
I consider Mushy as almost irrelevant in the future of Mohajirs. I am grateful to him for putting an end to the bloody oppression of Bezamir and Besharif. I appreciate the stable Paki rupee and the much improved economy and modernization of infrastructure. The only reason I would support Mushy is if the return of ``democracy`` under Bezamir or Besharif is imminent. Otherwise, I agree with you - there is no excuse for dictatorship, whether of Ayub, Yahya, Zia, or Mushy. :)

Khamakhwa #184 {``...the districts of multan, bahawalpur and lahore have a a very strong presence of the UP wallas but they have completely assimilated in the local society unlike in karachi and sind where they are still living in ghettos crowing about their tehzeeb and looking down on the locals.. it is the ehsaan faramosh migrants like the author of this crap who have one agenda...to break up pakistan and merge it with bharatmata...sadly their dream will remain a wet dream... ``}
Khamkhwa,
We may have ``forced`` our sweet language on you, but alas we were not able to inject our inimitable tehzeeb into the Pakistani Punjaibi Paindoos. Young or old, male or female, straight or atif2, all of you Pakistani Punjus lack the tehzeeb that is so necessary to have a decent discussion. :(

#183, cliftonbridge {``i love the fact that we have so many religions /ethnicities in karachi thats why its such a cool place. BECAUSE its a melting pot. Without that diversity we` d all be one track and unbalanced and jingoistic.
Lastly i am a girl, why`d you think otherwise? :) ``}
Dear Cliftonbridge,
You come here as a bridge - a symbol of masculinity, strength, and durability. How could I ever think that you were a girl - better symbolized by the gentle stream running below the bridge, the cool waters, the steady current, and the life giving nourishment that she carries? :)
Yes, I too love the diversity and tolerance of Karachi - where people don`t judge others by their views, their sect, their ethnicity, and the quality of their profanity as a certain city up north. :)

Sanatani,
I don`t know about the Sharanarthi part, but the rest of your claim must be true, based on the way you come across. :)

#180 Dost Mittar {``Who is a Mohajir? I am somewhat confused about this term.
I ...So, how did UP Muslims who migrated to a promised Muslim Land for which they had fought become Mohajirs or mohajirs? ...If there are any true Mohajirs, they would be Punjabi Muslims who were forced to leave East Punjab. And they are now pissr-e-zameen? Beats me!``}
DM Sahib,
You are going to get an ``F`` for sleeping in class again. :)
I have explained several times that Mohajirs call themselves Mohajir because the Pakistani Punjaibis call them ``HindustaaNRas`` and the Pathans call us ``Panha Guzeer.`` Also, we are using the capital M for Mohajir to distinguish from the small m for mohajir - just as in Democrat Vs democrat. George Bush is a democrat but hopefully he is not a Democrat. :)
If I am going to have to repeat this explanation another time, I will take back all the good things I have said about the state of Indian education and, more importantly, the inherent intelligence of Indians. :)

Sanatani:
Can you reconcile Post#129 with what Manto says was Deobandi opposition of Pakistan? I am a bit confused because on one hand he accuses the Deobandis of being the biggest Mullahs (which is in line with your post) and on the other he accuses them of being Gandhi`s allies, and else where I have read about Deobandis view of composite nationalism which ideologically appeals to middle of the road secularists like myself.
