What an extrordinarily lucid article on some strange activity called cricket. The article, though small in content highlights one point brilliantly.

Betting is rampant amidst Indian & Pakistani Ambassadors alongside casks of imported liquor.

Gajendra,

I`m sure this voluminous article has been written with good intentions, but haven`t the foggiest idea of what you are trying to get across.

It would help if you can post a summary ( not exceeding twenty lines !!) of your article.

Cheers.....

there are some holy cows on chowk and he is one of them...what makes him a holy cow? well! he was an ambassador like the other idiot from pakistan side karamat ghauri...and since they were ambassadors and now retired, they are considered to be good at diplomacy- saying so much, meaning nothing...that`s what both these dudes do well...;)

I read two computer screens (or two pages) of your long winding article and then realized that it was a very very very long article. Then I came down to the comments to see whether I can get the crux of the discussion. They were as clueless as I am.

I dont have a comment but an advice: Next time, write shorter articles.

I wonder after how many weeks this was published or did chowk editors even went through it.

long and rambling and ...what`s your point janaab?
i got lost amidst the cliches and racial and cultural stereotyping...

bottom line is india and pakistan are poor cricket teams when the conditions don`t suit them.
india hasn`t had a world class pace bowler ever and most pakistani batsmen are just flat track bullies.

the systems in both countries are beset by nepotism problems and corruption. the dumb masses hero-worship them to enliven their miserable lives. these bunch of losers don`t deserve such adulation.

above all, i wish we`d realise it is only a game. why do govts have to get involved, national enquires made into why we lost etc.?

Mr. Singh,

Overall, the assement is readable but who can read the minds of the mandarins of the cricket establishment in India?

1. How many of Indian stadia are world-class?

2. What`s the quality of running an international match?

3. Why cant we have state-wide, district-wide stars/teams and sponsors (more heroes, more money and more sponsorships; good 4 the economy)?

4. The gene excuse is superficial. Pl look at Sri Lanka.

5. Why we conduct international mathces in 48 degrees Centigrade? Are we braindead?* Why cant we apply our commonsense and conduct - if it`s a must in summer - the matches from 4 PM till, say 11 in summer?

6. Foregin coaches wud be neutral when compared to parochial beasts like Sunil Gavasker.

7. The players are milked all round the year.

We can enlist many more points but what the point in flogging a dead horse? ;-)

* The outdoor games (cricket, lawn tennis) are played in England during summer becoz people enjoy their beers in the sun whilst enjoying the game. In India we dont like to venture out when the temperatures ar 48-49 degrees Centigrade forget abt playing in the sun!
