the defeat of wahabism will come from within islam--the State should patronise traditional sufi islam and not this 18th century freak-show from arabia. also people who are well educated are generally not prone to extremit ideologies. we need to educate the minds of people.

This article is all over the place. Some interesting observations, but too far between. It’s mostly some sort of helplessness that the author feels about the current situation in his homeland. Who doesn’t? Borders keep changing. Nothing is ever permanent.

The so called ``liberalism`` or ``unlightened motheration`` have always been militant in Muslim world since the time their colonial masters appointed them as proxies and custodians of their inetersts. But only now their monoply on violence is being challenged effectively. I suggest, swallow it. All the oppression and corruption that ``liberalism`` could do, it has done already. What could be worst than that? Make the lives of people even more miserable? kill them?? well duhh.

Bangladesh got out when the going was good , noone else is going anywhere and unless India wants to get a$$ bombed they cant assist anyone`s departure either. Russia was a diff story, mainland Russia is not threatened by independant central asian states they arent a military threat- do you see chechnya being liberated anyday soon? Pakistan is surrounded by hostile territory we cant afford any province to allign itself with india afghanistan iran or russia (only the ones who are protected by china might survive) and form a block against mainland pakistan. It`ll never happen you heard it here first. Armageddon will happen first.
