HE
I believe you are giving the MMA or Fundos the benefit of doubt when u claim that Wana militants are plain vanilla militants while the Mqm goons are Govt sponsored. Fact is, both are blessed by their respective ideological frontiers. Wana militants recieve moral, financial and political support by their parental parties ie JI, JUI, LJ. Similarly, the militants shooting indiscriminately in Karachi was proecting the ideological frontiers of his party ie Mqm. There is no difference in how they behave, only difference being the political identity of their end target.
If there is no restriction on taking out political rallies then there is no restriction on music shops, no law that requires women to stay inside their homes, no law that allows video taping of beheadings done by 12year olds, yet that is openly practiced in the land of wild and free. Where is the Governemt? Why do they encourage such acts of criminality? Have u forgootten the horde of gangs that attacked signposts in Peshawar since they violated their sensibilities? State sponsored.
Fact is, Pakistan ideological frontier is under attack from fundamentalist fanatics who have no qualms in killing people by the hundreds or being killed. These terrorists are state sponsored ie Frontier run by the Mma.
Lets be clear about one thing, it was the right wing fundamentalists who started this ideological war with no holds barred, now that Mqm has drawn their ideological lines the world seems to have turned upside down.
Either we condemn both and recognize their proportional threat Or we choose our side and wait for the final moment.

Dear Qasim Mirza
Your article is very sensitive and timely. So, far the best article aming current articles on same topics.......Way to go.....Bravo!
Each and every word of your article is th emirror imgae of my mind. I see myself in this article...My mind`s reflection....Ditto.
Yes, I watched Musharaf`s addressing a rally in Islamabad and it was quite obvious that the rally was a pre planned Mushy`s chamchaa rally (funded by govt. @ the expense of poor Pakistanis taxes). This man, musharaf( the dictator) was just doing a kutputlee tamasha with a dugduggi in his hand, he reminded me of an acrobatic and juggler trying to make his puppets dance on his own dictatorial tunes.......
He calls himself President of Pakistan, well, he is NOT...he has just hijacked this the most prestigious and honorable status by hook or by crook..........He was never given that honor by the people of Pakistan. He just looted and plundered the People of pakistan , ransacked them and became Pseudo President of pakistan....
He also calls himself, Chief of Army staff..Well, he was given that prestigious status by Pakistani Army, when his role was meant to defend Pakistan @ the Pakistani borders.
He was merely a servant of the people of Pakistan being fed @ the taxes of Pakistani citizens...............
But, that was then...Now,by becoming dictator and tyrant...he has lost his original title as Army general technically b/c amry chief of staff is supposed to be the security guard for their countries, NOT a tyrant like Musharaf.....
While he was addressing his own khabees chamchaas...he was acting weird, bizarre and like a third rated street style gangster who has lost his identity and didn`t know hwat was he uttering ...his words were just incoherent....he was wearing shalwar qameez..LOL
And was trying to imitate his close political lotas..........or he was trying to be the leader of Pakistan( father of the nation)....LOL...
Yes, he is father of nation....My foot.
He was absoutley not in his right mind, he was in his own state of confusion...just praising himself.....he was just jumping here and there on the set stage.....exactly like an acrobatic monkey...........All he was saying was just a big slap on the faces of all pakistanis.........he was actually bullying all Pakistanis...but, in reality he was bullying himself...........he was smiling and laughing with some up beat music...........
And @ the same time Karachi was burning, karachi was turning in to another massive grave yard , another Beirut.....Peshawar was burning......
Musharaf reminded me of Nero, playing his fiddle while Rome was burning...........
Musharaf was playing his monkey tamasha, while Pakistan was burning...........
In Pakistan only Musharaf`s life is important, everyone else is just flesh and bones, so what , if, they got killed innecessantly .....
And I started laughing, too...may be I wanted to cry, but, seeing his acrobatic drama...instead I laughed and specially when he started advising lawyers to stop playing politics......
So, General sahib is NOT playing any dirty politics...LOL
Look who`s talking?.....
After seeing innocent people being killed on the streets of Pakistan ........
I can only wish,if, some day someone could drag Musharaf out of his black staff car and keep him dragging on the streets...how will he feel?
Honestly, all the dictators deserve such dragging..........
Musharaf days are over....Musharaf era is gone......he has had enough looted alll Pakistani money and now his next seven generations will live like queens and Kings...No problems....
Just like prior dictators, Ayub Khan, Zia ul Huq, etc, etc....their generations are living like kings and queens......and now Mushy`s turn.....
Let`s see, Pakistani people will remain sleeping or will wake up out of their slumber.....
This is a big slap and gift from Musharaf for Pakistanis...this is a big wake up call and an eye opener.........
Musharraf, no one is afraid of you anymore and you have closed all your safe exits yourself!
Very true.........sigh*

re. ``of condemnation where as they should be taking substantial steps to resolve issues.``What I fail to understand is that why do governments try to get away with a simple statement
Are you kiddin` Qasim Mirza?!? Isn`t the answer obvious? ``Because they CAN!``
``But again, popular governments probably do not need to hassle with such actions. There is always plan-b in such cases, which is to throw the blame over someone else and walk off with a clear [conscience].``
You kept using the term popular governments, without quotes. I`m not sure whether you were being ironic or not. I`d like to think you were.

Re: # 7,
Only way for Pak now is a constructive alignment of Musharraf and PPP. But considering the events of last three months and the entirely negative steps taken by Mush it is not likely that their could be any alignment between them at least not a constructive one.

Re: # 1, HisExcellency,
`The battle for Pakistan must begin with Karachi. The interests of Karachites and especially Mohajirs can be better served by a party that believes in tolerance, ethnic pluralism, rule of law and nonviolence. The MQM is not that party.`
And building a party like that should begin with Jamia Fafsa?

re: #3 Naqshbandi
After what we saw on May 12, the Islamists look like angels in comparison with fascist Muhajirs. MMA has greater ideological differences with PPP than MQM has with PPP. Yet it has never attempted to settle its differences with the gun during the last 5 years.
I am no fan of MMA, but it has proved to be more responsible than MQM in power.

{{Bombs explode in Peshawar, Charsadda, Dir but there is no cry for change of leadership. Why?}}
Because these attacks were orchestrated by Wana militants, not by the govt. These were terrorist attacks against govt functionaries as well as civilians, in response to the military operation in Waziristan.
The Karachi attacks on the other hand, were orchestrated by the ruling party against its political opponents. There was no justifiable reason for these attacks because taking out political rallies is not a crime.
That`s a big difference.

Though i don`t like musharraf the dictator and would like real democracy back in pakistan the danger is that if he is toppled then the islamists will take power and that will spell the end of traditional sunni sufi islam. shrines will be destroyed and people will be brainwashed and forced to become wahabis. so unless we can be sure that the wahabis/tablighi/jamat e islami/mardoodites will not come into power it is better for mushy to stay. he may be seculari and a kemalist and power hungry but at least sunni islam is not in danger. if the wahabray come into power within a generation most paki youngsters will become atheists. this has happened in iran and it will happen in pakistan.
God save Islam from the Islamists!
amin.
Ya Rasool Allah madad!

Bombs explode in Peshawar, Charsadda, Dir but there is no cry for change of leadership, why? Cause its ok to condemn Mqm and wrong to criticize right wing extremists.
What distinguishes Karachi from rest of the country? Not much except for the fact that Karachi, Sindh has yet to suffer the same fate as rest of the country ie religious bigotry. Sindh still holds on to its religious pluralism and secular govt. There is no Deobandi/Wahabi school of thought trying to impose its ideals on rest of the population as in Frontier, there is no Lal Masjid fundo running amock dictating terms to a pliant provinical and federal govt. Yes, Sindh has its share of meglomaniacs, idiots who have failed to understand real meaning of liberal politics and chose to respond in a a manner most unbecoming. But then again, which province, religious entity or federal functionary can claim to be pure or innocent, none.
Battle for Pakistan should start from Raiwind move to Peshawar, Charsadda, Wazirastan, Dir, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujrat, Faislabad, Gujranwalla, Quetta, Loralai, Hyderabad, Larkana and Karachi.
Its about time the religous bigots were taught a lesson of religious pluralism, tolerance, harmony and most importantly to stay out of govt. This may need words and at times bullets when necessary.

During the last two months, we have witnessed a national movement in which lawyers from all the 4 provinces participated. We may have our little disagreements over the timing and necessity for such a movement. But we cannot deny the fact that this movement was aimed at the glorification of an institution, instead of an individual.
There have been rallies taken out in support of the CJP all over Pakistan. Without incident. Without violence.
Except ofcourse Karachi. Why is Karachi different? What distinguishes Karachi from rest of Pakistan is that it is the only city where a fascist party like the MQM is in power. This is the only city where ethnic hatred, violence and terrorist are glorified and orchestrated. This is the only city where divisive politics enjoys govt patronage, and national causes are sabotaged with official connivance.
The battle for Pakistan must begin with Karachi. The interests of Karachites and especially Mohajirs can be better served by a party that believes in tolerance, ethnic pluralism, rule of law and nonviolence. The MQM is not that party.
It is time that MQM be taught a great lesson in pluralism, right of dissent, democracy and rule of law.
How should this lesson be taught? By words if possible. By bullets if necessary.
