I used to think that Ahamdis rile the ummah the most. Seeing the abuses being hurled at you, I am not so sure. Is it the alcohol? Perhaps I should become an Ahmadi who drinks, while flaunting Israeli money for Ahmadi mosques. That should really annoy abu and Urstruly … no??

further to #884 but, just to emphasize - the voice of the people is not what the religious parties in pakistan mean when they talk about imposing the sharia or the islamic state. their actions in lal masjid show what their mindsets are, so the entire question of the maulvi actually respecting the democratic process is an academic one. if you want to talk democracy, look at societies where it flourishes, not in muslim societies where the entire concept has never been allowed to take root through the centuries by kings and their puppets, namely the maulvis, per #884 below.

#881 In that case I agree with you. Because if the maulvi seeks to go through the democratic process, then there is no problem. And in this case, the Voice of the People that is considered to be the Voice of God, Vox Populi, Vox Dei, as the ancient Greeks used to say. While muslims studied, and added to Greek science and passed on this knowledge to Europe - Greek political theory was clearly shut out from muslim lands (since that would have called for some form of democracy and thus threated the rule of the kings). This has been the tragedy of muslims through the ages. Turks tried to catch up in the 19th century, but again while they copied western military technology and techniques, the ottoman kings blocked the import of the plant that bore this fruit - namely, western political thought. Today, the whole world has recognized the value of free societies, with muslim countries and russia (which has its own miserable history of kingships and dictators) being among the last to understand this. How different things would have been if,when importing and building upon Greek medical knowledge, muslims had also imported the great idea of the voice of the people!!

anyway, i am just an old man rambling on... :-)

i am just curious to know who is financing the ahmedis, they are building something similar to rabwah in surrey uk, and calling it ``islamabad``, they have already built the biggest mosque in uk in london, iv`e heard rumours that the americans are the financial backers of this jamaat.

Where do you see me advocating for maulvis? What I am saying is that let them all go to the public and let the people decide who and what they want. Who so over would like their ideas to rule pakistan should try to win the hearts and minds of the people of pakistan thru reason. And let me say Ameen to your supplication that may All the oppressors meet justice hopefully in this world and if they get away in this 60-70 year life than for sure they;ll be dealt with in the life which will be forever, Prophet (PBUH) said that the day of reckoning alone would be 50,000 worldly years long. Its this concept of after-life that should stop muslims to resorting to haram means even when the injustice to them is severe, its easier said than done but whoever has that perspective rightly aligned, usually has a positive outlook.
