Dear Mr. Ali,
It would have been nice to know how the movement is spreading and where. Unfortunately, you have chosen not to deal with this in detail. You simply assert: ``Initially confined to the country`s 80,000 lawyers and several dozen judges, it soon began to spread.`` Then you go ahead and sprinkle names all over the article. Well, all that you have wrtitten is more or less known. What I do not know much about are:
1. Is the movement confined to the middle class or is it spreading to rural areas also?
2. What is the geographic domain of the movement?
3. If the movement is spreading to the unpriviledged sections, then is it being lead by any political party?
Regards.

Me or nobody who has respect for Altafbhai is supporting violence. Even MQM `s International HQ(INHQ) in England was expressing sadness about slaughter of 40 people in a day specially when some vested domestic interests were saying as ethinic conflit. Also Yes it was ethinic conflit for sure but Altafbhai asked his follower to mellow and cool down as these criminal activity was coming after by some CJ who was trying to play ``Dirty Politics`` of doing provokative things. MQM was concerned so much emmergency meeting took place at INHQ and called on people to stop troubles and demanded hefty amounts be given to people who were killed and big monetary compension was demaned by MQM chief. MQM Chief was called by President and chatted for 3 hours and Altaf prayed president to stop violence. Once that jude returned peace returned to Karachi in no time. So it was to MQM haters to retreat and MQM was was magnanomous to forgive the provokative agression of CJ in MQM country ( area of influence).
Politics is dirty and violent game in which some are loosers and some are winners. So prudent people do not provoke otherside which leads to such problems. MQM governer of Sindh and Chief Minister had requested this Judge to postpone so called ``political `` visit. He had no sage aptitude to follow sage suggestion by Governer of Sindh who is taking lots of interest in day to day activities in Urban areas so defying suggestion clearly puts onus of judge for inciting people. Violence is wrong in every place regardless if MQM killed or PPP killed. But all problem and blame lies with judge as he is CLEARLY playing politics to save his post. I had explained earlier that even big wild animals try to keep area announced by spreading spaying. Now only simplton will not know Karachi is MQM country. Just like altaf bhai will not going in Rural sindh and provokate BB and sindhi feudals or punjabi feudals and provoke people. Animals want terrotary for food and females tigers and politics is even dangerous than that there is more stake , the money and power so its deadly than jungles.
Long time I read in indian subcontinets there were tigers and lions in many areas but around 7000 years tiger went wild and killed most of lions and little areas they are existing. Tigers and lions can not coexist as they want same land and preys to eat, same way politicians want money and power so they can get its deadly game , its more dealy as tigers and lions have no idea about money and politics is concentrated economics just like gangs in drugs smuggling and people get killed . So hope other politicians keep away from karchi, its good politicians confine their areas do not encroach on others areasand peace and brotherhood will come on earth.
Please do not abuse hard working people for their success and helping nation to go forward.
Altafbhai is man of peace and so he is not coming back to become governer or CM of Sindh hopefully PPP exhiled leader (BB) and PM (N) (NS) try to follow as sacrafice done by Altafbhai for peace.

Dear Writer
Pakistanis should never forget the tragedy in Karachi. This is a big lesson to be learned...
Pakistanis have to fight for the establishment of democracy to get freedom from the clutches of dictatorship.........
Sad, Sad......situation...42 innocent people killed by MQM The same day with the help of Musharaf and people have still all the nerves to defend MQM and to give an excuse for those killings......What a cruel bunch of Pakistanis are......tsk,tsk,tsk...
When Another dictaytor, Zia ul haq created this monster, called MQM in Karach for the estblishment of his dictatorship, our great city Karachi has been hijacked by this mafia , called MQM...they have done nothing for the beterment of Karachi, they have just participated in destroying this city by their terrorist activities against innocent people of Karachi to prove their cruel existence at gun point.
Unfortunatley Karachiits are now MQM`s hostages.MQM`s leader(monsters) always state that Karachi is their property and it doesn`t belong to Pakistan, it is like ,``no man`s land`` and if people living in Karachi will oppose them, they would get killed, not less, they would have to pay the price for their lives......
Look @ the famous quote by MQM`s Altaf Hussain and which is the motto of MQM,````jsiko Quied say inkaar hay woh moot ka haaq dar hay``
so, once you are in MQM and if you wish to leave MQM for any reason, you got to leave this world.....MQM`s history of full of such murders to attack Karachiits who don`t agree with MQM`s inhumane agenda....MQM`s slogan,``sell VCR`s and Jewlery from your houses and buy guns to make Karachi as a seprate state as Jinah poor``
Now, who is responsible for MQM`s barbaric actions?
Musharaf and Aziz............Are they going to answer infront of the whole nation? NO...
Why? b/c this is the way poor pakistanis are kept hostage for the estaablishment of dictator.....

Snake, look inside your dark soul, and your pathetic slave existence and learn something, reform yourself before pointing fingers at others in order to cover up the crimes of your ``Anglo Saxon`` masters....

{rf786 your racist comments about Imran Khan are disgusting. What has his skin colour got to do with it? Whats wrong with marrying a white girl? Or a Jewish girl? Our Prophet also married a Jewish girl (and a Christian too). And what is wrong with being aryan?
You small minded racist bigot}
Ouch!!
I may have inadvertently hit a raw nerve, trust me that was not the objective. I have nothing against aryans or Imran Khan projecting his aryan heritage, but Khan sahib goes around with his duplicity and self-righteous pomposity which then is being projected as some great achievement by this great gift on earth. On the contrary, Imran Khan is the byproduct of the same system that he today condemns, he too owes his political spotlight to the Isi/Pak establishment. He has no problems in sitting with butchers from the North of Pakistan but if some dark skinned mohajirs commit a mistake then all hell breaks loose. This is rascist to say the least, has Imran Khan ever condemned with the same rigour those who were responsible for the East Pakistan debacle? Has he ever condemned the murdering Talibans? Why not? Only common factor is their North Pakistan or aryan correlation.

#35 ahmedmadani: ``Now only simplton will not know Karachi is MQM country. ``
Karachi is a Pakistani city, not an ``MQM Country``. And those killed in cold blood on May 12 by mqm in order to prevent the Chief Justice from speaking out against an increasingly arrogant military dictator were exerting their basic right to peaceful demonstration which is a basic right of every individual in all civilized countries. Ethnic affiliations are more important to mqm and its supporters than the basic rights of Paksitanis. Musharraf showed his true colors on May 12, as did MQM. Pakistanis will not forget this, because the rest of Pakistan is not as stupid as you think. .

i agree, plus the economic social and political condition is vastly different in venezuela and tariq ali`s obsession with V in connection with Pakistani politics borders on stupidity.
PS: getting a talkshow is no big deal, even Ant and Dec have shows and they prolly have not even passed their high school diplomas and there show is far more popular ...

Tazeen, here`s a theory I just made up to poke some fun at people. It`s not meant to be true. So don`t read too much into it. :)
See, a lot of these leftists particularly the gora variety (the only ones worse being their Indian counterparts) have two basic beliefs about us less intelligent humans.
1. Hinduism is all ludicrous nonsense. So Hindus are expected to reject it, and thus be all ``liberal.``
2. Islam is all fanatical nonsense. So Muslims are expected to cling to it, and be all ``irrational.``
So, any Muslim who even remotely says something `liberal` and `rational` (from their point of view) once every few decades is immediately hailed as the paragon of all virtue and the next best hope of mankind.

Ahmedmadani sahib,
State of Pakistan (Establishment) has very effectively manufactured hatred, resentment and developed racial bigotry against Bengali nationalst leaders and the same was done against the Mohajirs led leadership of Mqm during the nineties, that does not absolve Mqm of their criminl activities but has nurtured stereotypical attitudes that are difficult to change.
Civil society that is comprised of social, non-political, religious groups are supposed to keep society balanced and present a fair picture, act as counter checks on state over-reach and promote an egalitarian form of governance. Unfortunately, Pak civil society has like many other pressure groups have succumbed to state needs rather than be objective and representative of ALL segments that comprise of Pak society. That is the most worrying side of the problem.

Hamidm2,
Admit their mistake? Bush+Blair axis is responsible for hundreds of thousands killed post Iraq occupation, do u really believe either one of them will ever confess to their crime? How about those who were responsible for the East Pakistan debacle and killing of hundred of thousands of innocent Bengalese (East Pakistanis)?
I wish it was that simple, but unfortunately that is not going to happen some time soon.
The very next day a hotel in Peshawar was blown to pieces, 30-40 ppl were killed, b4 that Interior minister was attacked in Charsadda again 20plus were killed, attack on army training for jawans in Dagai-40 killed, police officials targetted in Peshawer 16 killed. Where is the outrage? Why are not ppl rushing to Frontier to setup civil society, fight these murdering obscurantists? Why does Imran Khan not feel compelled to educate his compatriots yet has the racial urge to take Altaf Hussein to court?

rf #46 You point about ``admitting their mistake`` on the part of mqm is valid. On the other hand, both Bush and Blair are not exactly considered to be resoundingly successful in their careers due to iraq. And there is no reason to believe that the political careers of mush and mqm will be any different as a result of May 12 and the subsequent outrageous and arrogant behavior they have displayed. Similarly, islamic terrorists are universally despised, and by carrying out similar murderous actions mqm has placed itself in the same league.
#48 Posted by tahmed32 on May 26, 2007 1:00:13 pm
as for your portraying ``Altaf Bhai`` as being a victim of racism, rather than a being a criminal charged with murder and running torture cells in karachi when he was running the governemnt there, not to mention the ``International Boss`` of mqm who managed May 12 bloodbath real-time, that is something unexpected coming from an otherwise reasonable individual like you.
