Recent advances in medical science tell us that neural systems which are responsible for emotion and intellect are separate
Er,no, they are not.

Good summary of the topic, Abdul Arif!
Btw, the selfless gene, so to speak, isn`t unique to homo sapiens. It is to be found all over the animal kingdom, for instance, in rats jumping off cliffs to ensure the survival of their overcrowding offspring.
So it all comes down to a Platonic ideal: The `good` is a function of (good) knowledge. Morality, separate from biological imperative, doesn`t really exist. Does this mean that God is dead, after all? Or maybe that Biology -- a certain ``Englightened Biology``-- is God?
Cool!

``Pure materialism, the one and only God of all Indian liberals, explains a lot, but not all.``
Who is this Indian Liberal...:)))

Unfortunately, won`t be able to spend as much time here to learn about this topic but, at this point, I have a slightly different, probably not very well informed, view.
I see an analogy here with materialism. Pure materialism, the one and only God of all Indian liberals, explains a lot, but not all. Or, not as efficiently as any good theory should.
But combine and cross materialism with idealism, and suddenly the fit between theory and reality multiplies.
I suspect just as we speak of selfish genes, we might do well to recognize the existence of selfish principles. Or selfish ideas.
Together, selfish genes, and selfish ideas, make our world what it is.
Now, it`s possible, science has already proven otherwise.

chennai, anyone who is a good person. LOL
Seriously, a bad man came up with this crazy idea: whenever you want to abuse someone, to blame some group for all of the world`s problems, misfortunes, and injustices, or even for the heck of it, always target good folks.
They don`t mind too much.
(If you are a good man, you would be blaming yourself anyways. So you see, all fits nicely.)
