bjkumar #63 Couldnt agree more with you. Those killed while asserting their right to peaceful assembly on May 12 are the true martyrs of Pakistan. Those struggling for the rule of law and respect for basic human rights in Pakistan are the true patriots of Pakistan, and friends of freedom loving people everywhere. Ayesha Siddiqa is yet another Pakistani who proves that Pakistanis will not be cowed in their just struggle by guns and ghoondas. The sooner musharraf understands this, the better it will be for everyone.

#61 Arjun, that`s not a laughing matter.
As a fan of Dr. Siddiqa`s writings, this bothers me immensely.
I wish her and her sympathizers my sincere best. Not everyone has the option or opportunity or means to leave.
I pray that perhaps someday she can return to a land where people shall indeed breathe freedom - as is inevitable.
There is no polite way to put it. The khakis have truly gone nuts! Just like a candle which burns rather bright - just before it goes out!

Dr Ayesha Siddiqa leaves Pakistan
By Rauf Klasra
LONDON: Renowned scholar Dr Ayesha Siddiqa secretly reached London on Wednesday after she “received a message that a charge sheet is being prepared to put her on trial” for writing a book against the Pakistani military establishment.
Dr Ayesha, whose recently launched book, “Military Inc”, created a stir in Pakistan, was scheduled to reach London on June 13. However, she abruptly got out of the country after the messengers told her that she might be put on trial soon.
Before leaving Pakistan, Dr Ayesha also received a legal notice from a retired general, demanding Rs 1 billion as damages for exposing his alleged acts of omission and commission in her book.
She was informed by some of her close family friends that her life was in a danger and she should be very careful. “I left Pakistan quietly as certain messengers were sent to my house to inform me about government’s intentions to prepare a charge-sheet,” Dr Siddiqa told The New here.
She said she believed that the messengers, who were personally known to her, were sent because the authorities concerned were annoyed at her work on the political and economic might and role of the military establishment.
Dr Ayesha said she had planned to visit London in the second week of June to attend her book’s launching ceremony here on June 13. But, after receiving these messages she decided to leave for London quite early, she said, adding that after receiving these messages, her husband was frightened about her safety in Pakistan.

Some here have mused that India is a `stronger` country than Pakistan. When we seek the `strength` of countries, we as weak individuals dig our own graves. Countries, rather the state, should be weak. The `power` should belong to individuals.
I recall a seminar by the economist Ackerlof (spelling). After the seminar we as young graduate students hung around our hero in the `beer` session. The discussion meandered towards the `govt.` and I complained that the US govt. was full of stupid people. He turned towards me and, with a wicked smile on his face, said ``Imagine what would have happened if they were to be smart.`` ..... A lesson I learnt, which I woudn`t in 100s of graduate courses.
Cheers.

Zeena: i took a look a look at a couple of your posts after writing #58, and see that you are basically saying that I applied double-standards for telling you to refrain from using foul language and not telling others the same thing.
I already acknowledged that, and tried to explain to you why it was ``different standards`` not ``double standards``. Thus, I would expect posts written by, e.g, dost mittar to be more intelligent, civilized and open-minded than those written, e.g. by masadi. I had meant that as a compliment, not something to take offense at. However, I can see how it could be seen as lecturing to the aggrieved party, which is how you have taken it to mean. And for that I apologize.
Have a good day.

Shabas, little sis!
Your kind-heartedness is the stuff that legends are made of - sometimes people take undue advantage - but it reflects on such people a lot more than on you.
[I am always here,if, you need a friend to share your sorrows and happinesses]
My dear, you have more than done your part! I can never repay you in laakh-janams, even if I tried to!! Really!
I appreciate your kind friendship, of course. You mean it sincerely and I know that.
But that term ``little sis`` means a lot more to me. :)
Therefore, little sis you are...
...and little sis is what you shall forever remain!!!

Zeenaji,
When are people of Pakistan going to abandon this habit of relying on ONE MAN and waiting for messah !!! You people have been doing it since 1947 .....Individuals don`t build nations, masses do ...]]]]
Indian sahib
I totally agree with your views. And exactly, that`s what I have had been pointing out..........You got to remember Pakistan is not a strong country like India and you know the reasons...We are trying fight with those dictator and fascist forces(Army) is the biggest example of dictatorship..........and everytime army comes, there are 80% of Lota Politicians who start supporting army just for their own power.......Pakistani nation is now absolutely a chaotic nation...nothing is right at this moment....
Bezamir, Nawaz(haqeer and faqeer) all are responsible of this chaos.....they failed...
We do need a good person to gather pakistani nation under one platform to go forward for democracy....Imran Khan is not our messiah, but, a good leader with his vision and his sensitivity for poor Pakistanis.....
Bazamir, Benamaz faqeer and haqeer are retarded idiots with no brain cells for being leaders.......
And Leaders are actually servants for masses to get them together ...for the people and by the people...Simple.

Zeena: I am glad you appreciate the honest, hard-working tonga wallah.
However, you are not driving a tonga right now. So, perhaps you should permit yourself the privilege of cursing the female relatives of the horse only when you have earned it - i.e. when you are actually doing the honest work of the tonga wallah rather than merely wasting time with the rest of us loafers on chowk. :-)]]]
tahmed sahib
I don`t need to be a tonga wali/wala to be qualified for hard and honest work....I am already doing my hard work and honest living via my own respectable profession. But, I do respect all professions equally whether it is a janitor, tanaga wala/wali, house maid, tailor or a sales person.......
But, you with all your hypocritic democracy won`t be able to understand the difference when you yourself sopunds like a big fascist on this anon web site.....
You with your own self righteousness and in your own illusion bashing me when already some loser is cyber harrassing me shows your mind set.....Very typical Pakistani mind set and talking about democracy....LOL
You are telling me not to come to chowk.....so, that`s your democracy...
You are telling me not waste my time among loafers of chowk.....instead of advising them to behave, your democracy is exactly like your selective morality.....
So, in other words, your selective dishonest democracy (very typical of Pakistani mindset) tells all Pakistani ladies not to raise their voices against abusers and cyber harrassers,b/c if they do, they will be considered tanga walas/waliis.........LOL
Here you are comitting few crimes....
#1:- Contradicting your own self by supporting Pakistani cyber harrassers.....and instead bashing me for speaking up.....So, this kind of selective democracy you believe in.......Bravo!
#2:-On one hand you are discussing democracy...and on the other hand...choking my voice for raising it against these women abusers.......Wonderful!
#3:-On one hand you are using big words for democracy and against MQM/Mushy and on the other hand....you are belittling this respectable profession......tonga wala/tonga wali...as if they are not humans, as if they have nothing to do with democracy...as if they are not people b/c they are low life......Excellent!!!
#4:- On one hand you are discussing democracy and trying to stand up against MQM/Mushy and his parlimantarians(corrupt ones in Islam abad, Lotas) and on the other hand, you are advising me to act like a parlimantarian not like a tonga wali.....That`s pearl of wisdom!!!
Tell me where do you stand?
Salim mian on the other hand has proven himself a real gentleman on this board......Although, we both are from opposite camps, but, seeing Salim`s refined behavior on this board is compelling me to change my mind in favor of MQM instead,b/c that`s what is called real democracy....
Salim Mian
I am so very proud of you.....We both are standing up for absolutely different causes, but, we both did not disrespect each other, rather we acknowledged eachother`s POVs......
Now, this is the kind of democracy that we need...
Salim Mian
You have set an excellent example of democracy.....Please, teach tahmed and others the same democratic attitude. Thanks
