As an Indian , i feel that Pakistan army has a country and pakistanis to get served by , rather than a country and pakistanis to serve . Army is bigger than the nation !!! Pakistan does not need any ``dushman`` in India... only the Pak Army needs India to stay powerful in Pakistan..Think about it.

Pakistan as we know it is doomed. Punjab Univeristy is protecting the plagiarizing faculty from Physics department. Lawyers are ``outlawed`` and Judges are being Judged! Dande-Waliyan of Lal Masjid are terrorizing the Mush regime right in Isloo. Altaf Bhai is on a killing spree - remote controlled from London of course. Imran is prevented from traveling within Pakistan. People of Pakistan have no where to turn to, we all know that BB and Nawaz are ``expired medicines``.
All I can do is to invest in Karachi Stock Market -

nice article, but now i think the civil society should stop talking of these high ranked red collar military officers involved in civil matters.bcoz now the game has moved to another level, first get these SOBEDAARS and HAWALDAARS out of civil institutions.
Just imagine that in Punjab a JCO,sobedaar and hawaaldar has been given the responsibility to rade publically owned schools and hospitals to check the performance of Teachers and Doctors.

A Lie,
Complaining against oppression, injustice, hegemony, rape, looting, and murder does sound like a ``broken record.`` Some people are already sick of the Holocaust - but it doesn`t stop those who want to make sure that such misdeeds are NEVER repeated again. NEVER AGAIN, KOPEK!

Imran,

You raised some very good points but what fears me the most is who will be the one to take his place. We have had enough with all the crappy political leaders and I don`t see any hope for a better change.
God Bless Pakistan formed in the name of Islam with worst followers as the nation.

Under what law is the Chief of Army Staff addressing a meeting of a political party?

See - that`s the problem... you are just a lowly convert, product of rape and lust of some smelly barbarians with a bedouin book up his a$$... even though centuries have past since, you are still afraid to let go... you are still holding on to that book... and dreaming some day you will be considered a bedouin...

But you will remain what you are - weak converted hinud... :)

1. Pakistan Army is run with public money.

2. From the most junior foot soldier to the Chief of Army Staff, all personnel of Pakistan Army are salaried government employees.

3. Pakistan Army is one of many departments of the Ministry of Defence, headed by the Minister of Defence

4. Being a department of the government, Pakistan Army is not above criticism. There is nothing `holy` or `sacred` about Pakistan Army.

5. In all civilised countries, Parliament has the right to know how public money is spent. However, Pakistan Army has never given an account of its expenditures to anyone. No Pakistani general has ever appeared before the Public Accounts Committee.

6. Oath of Office of members of Pakistan Army

Article 244, Third Schedule, Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

(In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful)

I,
, do solemnly swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Pakistan and uphold the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan which embodies the will of the people, that I will not engage myself in any political activities whatsoever and that I will honestly and faithfully serve Pakistan in the Pakistan Army as required by and under the law.

May Allah Almighty help me and guide me (A`meen)

7. When the Army is called out to help the civil administration in times of natural calamities or law and order situations, it is not an act of charity (ihsan); the Army simply does its duty for which it is paid. Every national Army in every country does the same. Moreover, Pakistan Army does not help the civil administration free of charge; it gets extra payment for its services.

8. Pakistan Army has never won a war.

9. Despite being a political party in all but name, and despite ruling the country, directly and indirectly, for much of its existence, Pakistan Army has never won an election.

10. Pakistan Army has conquered Pakistan 4 times.

Mr Ghazanavi`s left ball, if you go back tracing your lineage, more likely than not you will learn that you are the product of the rape of some hapless Hindu woman ( who would be your great great great great great great grand mother) by the marauding raiders who you claim to represent. So just take it easy with claiming to be Ghazanavi`s kinsman and have your system analysed for cow urine content and be happy with your Hindu origins, you will be at peace with yourself.

{``Salim, Is it true that these stranded Pakis in B`desh no longer wish to come back to Pakistan and prefer being B`deshis.........
What is the official response of the GOP to their plight..........``}

Chennai Sahib,
People make up all sorts of flimsy and hypocrtical excuses to justify their own unjust, cruel, and racist actions. After 35 years of being ``stranded`` in Bangladesh, and with the continuing poverty, disease, and depravation, it`s possible that in a few more generations, these unfortunate people will not even know what Pakistan is. Then the self-righteous, racist, bigots like Tahmed420 will proclaim ``See these Biharis don`t even know what Pakistan is - how do you expect us to take them?`` :)

The offical GoP response is dead silence on this open/shut case. Saudi Arabia even offered to pay for the costs of their repatriation, but the shameless Punjaibis refused to allow their return. Some officials call them ``Biharis,`` others call them ``Bangladeshi citizens.`` This is the biggest shame on Pakistan`s much blighted face - probably the ONLY 3rd class nation that refuses to readmit its own citizens after losing a cowardly-fought war.

majumdar #28, {``The earthquake part was uncalled for. How were the poor kids who died in the earthquakes responsible for the tragedy of 1971, including what is continuing till today- the Bihari issue. ``}

Majumdar,
Sir, you are absolutely right. That was uncalled for. I just wanted to remind the self-righteous Paki Punjus here that there is a God - and, whether we like it or not, He does punish the transgressors in strange ways. By not allowing 300,000 dark-skinned Pakistanis ``stranded`` in BD, the Paki Punju estabishment may have earned God`s wrath at the expense of innocent, but lighter-skinned people who may be dearer to Paki Punju hearts. Sad, but possibly true.

Unrepentant ‘Dr. Death’ still favors right to die
By John Springer

Updated: 11:20 a.m. ET June 5, 2007
Eight years in prison hasn’t changed physician-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian’s opinion that legislatures can prohibit doctors from helping chronically ill patients end their lives, but no man-made rule can ever take away a person’s “natural right” to decide whether they wish to live or die.

“It is one of our natural rights that we are born with, the right to control the circumstances of one’s own death,” Kevorkian, 79, told TODAY’s Ann Curry on Tuesday during his first live television interview since being released from a Michigan prison last week.

“It can’t be controlled by external forces and be a right,” he told Curry. “The law can block your use of it. That doesn’t mean they destroy the right.”

Let us forget about the shameful act of surrender that was performed by one of the most advanced armed forces of the Islamic world in modern history, but let us learn some lessons from the lowest point of our history! ``}

Imran Sahib,
An even more shameful and lower point of our history was when the GoP negotiated the release of 90,000 cowards and left hundreds of thousands of ``stranded`` Pakis in Bangladesh to suffer for the sins and crimes of these cowards. The shameful deed continues to this day, when after 35 years, these ``stranded`` Pakis and their children and even grandchildren continue to suffer and rot in refugee camps. You get what you deserve - first military dictatorships, then ``democratically`` elected looters, and one earthquake after another. When a nation discards its own citizens because they are dark-skinned ``Biharis,`` Allah taketh away other citizens who may be lighter-skinned ``Punjus, Pathans, and Kashmiris`` If the Paki army could perform savagery in East Pakistan, why should it not perform savagery at home? The list of 109 appointments obviously is in addition to the hundreds of lucrative appointments within the armed forces like station commanders, garrison, sub area and area commanders where army brass is lording it over the civilians.
With so much of loot, no wonder Mushy has got his miltry constituency backing him to the hilt.
Pakistan is caught between two devils, mullahs on the one side, wanting their writ to run across the daily life of the citizen and the miltry on the other, having tasted blood in form of loot from the nation`s coffers, wanting to continue ruling the country, both conveniently raising the bogey of India and dangers to Islam to keep the citizen`s quest for freedom under check.
Nothing short of a revolution can change the state of affairs in Pakistan

India does not want a splintered neighbour bleeding with nuclear toxins

Why not? you think the US will just stand by and watch if the jihadis get the nukes? and do you think india won`t retaliate if the jihadis use nukes?

If the jihadis take over, that`ll be really bad for the interests for current and retired top brass of the paki military...so they`ll do what needs to be done to keep the jihadis at bay...

The defence ppl are well entrenched on the civil side - the wrong side.

The celabration of Defence Day by/in Pakistan is another attempt to spend ur money 4 the self-aggrandisement by the Army. This article is an evidence as to how deep this rot gone gone into.

Simply put, this is the Patronage Network that`s being developed is wide and deep. There are no easy ways to cut this whole network.

I said it b4. Gather ppl in crores that surround the GHQ, National Assembly and other vital state installations. Let the General declare retirement.

(Btw, dont guillotine him and his family like they it in French Revolution).

Croatians did it (Orange Revolution). Phippinos did it (to remove Estarda). Nepalese did it recently.

Pakistanis are emotional like we Indians are. They gather in lakhs to protest against some silly cartoons but not for the `real` issues. May be that`s how we philosophise abt Pakistan and her fate. :-(

EU ban on PIA airbuses may last till November

KARACHI: The ban on Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) aircrafts from flying to European countries may last for another six months, as no positive development could be made during talks held in Brussels last week between Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) and European Union’s Air Safety Commission officials.

The ICAA and EU’s safety commission made it clear during the talks that no compromise would be made on safety standards. The EU barred PIA airbuses from flying to European countries because of safety concerns in June 2006 and asked the airline’s management to improve the safety standard. According to sources, the ICCA and EU safety commission officials told the CAA delegation that a safety commission delegation would visit Pakistan next month to see the measures being taken by PIA’s administration to improve safety in its fleet. online

As well as these direct army ppl in civil jobs, there are many civil appointees who are not supposed to be there but carry favour with Mush and crew... eg. Tarik Kirmani (ex-petroleum guy) chairman PIA, PIA is now banned from flying to Europe except for its new planes... so he has been replaced by some other twit who has no idea about the industry!!!

There are many others too... Army should go back to the baracks and leave running of the country to civil society....

#2 would be helpful if all your country men thought like that!

`They are not allowed to assume such roles and they are not trained for these non -military roles. `

your thoughts are very noble indeed, but it seems that the military of your country enjoys playing god. so the best way out of this mess could be that all military personal of your country rising beyond the rank of a major must clear a full time MBA course in case his services are required in business fields and he wants to coontinue being the in military.

my above thoughts are only inline with the reality of your country.

A good expose` by the author.
Yesterday the book Military Inc now this article.

We as Indians have this moral responsibility to help Pakistanis, in whichever meagre way possible, to help them come out this unending General saga.

rf786, well said.

Dear writer,

Very good article, one can only hope and pray that civil society in Pakistan whatever is left of it can assert itself.

Civil society in Pakistan is limited to Karachi, Lahore, Pindi, Islamabad beyond these major urban cities, rest of the country is dominated by baradri, tribal, feudal structures that do not allow any form of civil polity. Even the major urban cities are subject to feudal mindsets and military (militant) controls, therefore Iam not sure where civil society can make a difference, if the recent popular wave seen for the CJP is an example, well this will be a one time event that can very easily be reversed through military or religious edicts.

Still, good article and noble ideas, wish u well.
