I think the lal masjid surrender is going to be one of the finest victories of a moderate Pakistani nation.
Long live Pakistan!!!

the public support in islamabad for this action against the terrorists of lal masjid is immense; i do feel for those children trapped inside and not being allowed to leave though. i hope the army now just wipes the hardcore terrorists inside out.
zeemax, until this action by mushy you were crowing for the past month or so about the activities of these terrorists including the Burkha Brigade and how times had changed etc. etc. and how a real islamic system was in place there blah blah blah...
not feeling so cocky now are you as your cowardly wahabi mullahs are being smoked?

What Dr. Afzul-Khan pinpoints accurately are the extremely self serving and disturbing reasoning based on rigid dichotomies expressed by both the leadership of Lal Masjid and their female functionaries, instructors down to students. As illustrated by Ghazi Sahib and the Jamia Hafsa students` attempts at grappling with various political, religious and economic theory, these ideologies barely engage with these frameworks before giving up entirely and claiming that their interpretation of Islam is the answer. It is not enough to divide the world into ``Islamic`` and ``non Islamic``, and the labor of parsing these arbitrary categories does not serve their agendas. I would have appreciated Dr. Afzul-Khan`s questioning the fairly predictable patriarchical hierarchy-it seemed that the women and students of this institution were ready to fight a scholar who was not beholden to silly men like Ghazi Sahib while they themselves could not interrogate the orders delivered from on high. This is not an Islamic feminist moment in any real, substantial way-and that these women are able to avoid the struggles that al-Saadaawi, Dr. Amina Wadud, etc. face, tells us what kind of curricula is being taught at this institution.

The commentary on the state of economics in Pakistan by the women in compound seems to be what 99% of the Pakistanis would agree.
As for author`s point that data on suicides in pakistan has never been ``systematically collected by any agency, government or otherwise``, i suppose just because an agency never collected a data does not mean that suicides never occured. But this dismissive attitude on suicides in Pakistan does seem to highlight the author and her fellow elitists` arrogance. And besides, isnt it a sad commentary on government that it keeps no statistics on how many poverty stricken pakistanis commit suicides each month and how many poverty stricken pakistanis sell their internal organs to get out of debt?
Lastly, it is quite clear that author`s recording device was of substandard quality. Iqbal`s verse is not ``Kafir hai to shamshir pay karta hai takabbur`` - rather, its ``Kafir hai to shamshir pay karta hai bharosa``.

what research corroborates this claim?

Was the reporter just afraid to ask the most basic question regarding the genders in close proximity with each other? How is it possible to avoid such a basic question? With over 1,000 young female adults in crowded corridors along with sexually deprived males, there is bound to be some issues with sexual promiscuity. These mullahs have got it made with their brand of morality. Let us see how many of these children were sexually raped by the pedophiles amongst this lot.

hmm...still not seeing the problem...unless the males in question have changed their sexual preferences recently....
