Today July 20, 2007 will be the historic day when Pakistan will arrive at the decision whether it is the gun or the Law which should be more powerful. Ayaz Mir, as usual, has written a real good column. Hope everyone will like it. http://www.express.com.pk/images/NP_LHE/20070720/Sub_Images/1100227536-2.gif

#983 but..but...Master masadi. You are so smart. You are too good for Chowk. You should seek recognition from places like the United Nations or the Nobel Prize Selection Committee at least.

As long as Hoodlumbhoy is Kanjaroon ( generic word for secularoon, murtadoon, munafiquoon, mushrikoon, Liberaloon & any or all the Westoxicated tooons) he is not welcome iamong Muslims.
He may continue to harp his Harvardish-Harlotism but the Madressa-educated ones are beating his king in every field..science, literature, jihaad, medicine in EVERY FIELD.
The ones who want shariat implemented in MUSLIM majority countries and get rid of the Farangi-impose Shariat have higher incomes & better learning of every kinfd than the Kanjaroons of PHoodlum`s ilk.
A failed scientist, he now seeks attention to be respected like a learned peron e.g a mulla, maulvi or a maulana.
Oh what an arrogance, buttressed by the US gun-barrel up his arse...and this earthworm thinks he got spine..................................Haaaa Haaaaa Haaaaa!

It must feel especially terrible to be killed by one’s former friends and allies.
Roses are red
violets are blue
the jihadis you created
are now killing you(and being killed by you)....

thank you.
There was a law in almost everyland, when the world was more cilvilised than it is today, & CNN types had not turned news reporting into news-creation, that poets, mirasis ( from Meeraas..chroniclers of heritage ..meeraas and genelogy), historians, and scribes were exempt
from punishment for every act except treason.
You have been gifted by the Allah with humour & satire & Allah`s knows best that maybe He too, sometimes , must be laughing at his own creation ( ay bUndaa banayaa meiN?)..Just further confirms His Omnipotency.
Rest assured , that in me you`ll find someone who does not really have horns & a tail..I wish I could say the same about you. :) :)

Rahul,
Thanks. It seems that echo is out. So here I go again.
You see the problem with us liberals is that we are so comfortably arrogant that we do not even care to understand what the other side is saying. Take the earlier JH article for example. The author arrogantly brushes aside the JH womens` claim about Adam Smith. Why did the author not contend the claims? If not to the JH women then atleast in her article in chowk! I have a feeling, and I may be wrong, that the author felt that most of us here in chowk would laugh at those claims. But even here, how can we laugh? We are not even aware of the details of the arguement against Smith. I just feel sad.
We also trivialize history. Urstruly put forth a picture from 1857. I have a feeling he is not very well read about 1857. The `mutineers` almost won! Jihad was declared from the jama-masjid and 60% (if not more) of the army was Hindu. The British were listening very carefully, they had spies all over Delhi. Almost every day they thought of retreating so they took the message comming out of Delhi very seriously. Finally. the lack of organization and the bombastic `jihadi` rituals of charging head-long into the cannons on the ridge lead to defeat. This `jihadi` ritual was repeated again by the Lal-masjid group, BUT with a difference. This time the `jihadis` in our sub-continent were watching, listening and learning very very carefully. I am sad to say that I believe that the liberals are not even listening.

Pervez:
I know very little about what is going on. It seems to me that this so called global war is being fought by two sides - well entrenched states (western?) and relatively unorganized groups with varying demands. In Pakistan, today, the Lal masjid group has highlighted a very simple demand, i.e. the implementation of the shariat. First, this simple demand has the potential for unifying different groups, even if the shariat may mean different things to different groups. Second, it has the potential for inducing a movement with a much greater mass base.
The foundation of the shariat is moral, whether we agree with the morality or not is a secondary issue. Issues like economic exploitation etc. can well be understood and dealt with under the parameters set by Islamic morality which governs the shariat. In fact a previous article here highlights the JH womens` concern about capitalism, corruption and Adam Smith. So it will be wrong to state that the fundamentalist movement do not have concerns about exploitation etc. In fact it is us, the liberals, who have been deaf to the demands made by the fundamentalists. As a result we do not even have an idea as to how they are being interpreted by people at large. And therefore we are dumb too, because we have no idea as to how to counter the message of the fundamentalists. We respond by `banning` the likes of echoboom or razing down Lal masjid. This is harmful for the liberal cause. A guy who understood this situation, in our sub-continent, was the naked fakir - Gandhi.
In our parts, sir, religion is a great force. The call for the implementation of the shariat, coupled with the dazzling fire-works in Lal masjid, has just started a war - not only in Pakistan but also in India, if not beyond. We still have time to understand our enemies - the fundamentalists. We should not phooh-phooh their message, as I believe your article does. Otherwise, sir, we will end up fighting in Kurukshetra - an immoral war where soldiers will simply have to fulfill their painful duty.
p.s. Welcome back echoboom.

Note that the Lal Masjid ideologues – and others of their ilk – do not rouse their followers to action on matters of poverty, unemployment, poor access to justice, lack of educational opportunities, corruption within the army and bureaucracy, or the sufferings of peasants and workers.
That`s not what fowzia afzal khan`s article says. She says they were talking about the cost of meat, driver salaries and the electricity bills and house rents alongwith all of the above.
But never mind ...
