hamzaad your name is missing an "ar" and an "a", but its ok your posts clarify things. Stop being so frikkin insecure about everything, noone was talking about your parents till you needless dragged them into it.

hamzad, well, arjun did make an effort, but he was being genuine. Most Indians do think that religions don't make any difference whatsoever in human life (positive or negative). That view is changing slowly, but that Nehruvian ideal is not dead (although like all rightists arjun hates Nehru with a passion :)).
BTW, Nehruvian ideal is not the same as the religionist one. The latter sees religion's positive effects, just not its negative ones (for any real believer, logically, religion CANNOT have any negative effects, and we can accept that on the basis of faith).

when in fact I was comparing tolerance levels with India,
ok..how about I carry a sign saying (hindu god of your choosing) is a fraud in India and you carry a sign saying "Prophet mohammed was an imperfect human being" in Pakiland?
Have you heard of Periyar?
The firebrand atheist sought to usher in rationalist humanism by breaking idols of Ganesha (on Buddha Purnima, 1953) and burning portraits of Rama (1956), and with his radical retelling of the Ramayana.

tahmed,
You claim that since Quran confers no special role to Muhammad, it must be authentic. You should read Quran again … this time with open eyes.
E.g., Quran commands believers not to marry Prophet’s widows once the Prophet has passed away (33:53). You remain in denial of several such verses.
Note that these widows included Ayesha, who was ~20 years of age when the Prophet passed away. There’s more. See #220 and #225 for details. Or you could stay in denial.
Now, it’s fine for you to believe in Quran, Muhammad, etc. But it is foolish of you to try to rationalize your faith to others. That's the main point I am making here ...
Your faith is blind. You believe what you’ve been told to believe. Not that there is anything wrong with it …

Below are few paras from an article on Times of India online, written by a Sadhu, which I thought was interesting; the Sadhu is a little “out there” and I am sure he must be considering himself to be a god in the same way as other living gods and goddesses who have graced India in recent times like Bhagwan Rajneesh, Mata Amritanandmayi, etc. But it gives an idea about old Indian/Hindu spirituality and why people from west and east (except Islamic world) come to India seeking answers to their spiritual quest.
Culture As Magnet For Spiritual Seekers

Mark Twain was intrigued by Indic mysticism. He spent three months in India. While leaving he said: “Anything that can ever be done either by man or God has been done in this land”.
This is the only culture which does not have a religion as such. Religions have cropped up now only because of external influences; otherwise as a culture, there is no religion in this place. We have something called Sanatana Dharma, that means a universal religion. We're not talking about one religion for everybody. We are talking about all of us having our own religion.
Hindu is a geographical identity; anybody who is born in the land of Indus or the civilisation that came from the banks of Indus is a Hindu. So you can worship a man, woman, snake, cow, monkey or a rock and still be a Hindu. You can worship your spouse or child, you can abstain from worship of any kind and still be a Hindu.

So much fan mail, so little time...such indeed is the price of popularity. :-(
but...there is hope: Dost Mittar #264 is good enough to actually refer to what I have said many times provide a more accurate response to sattar2's posts referring to me than I could have done.
And cliftonbridge #269 ably adds to this defence in the PPS, and graphically summarizes the rest of the discussion on this board, in one sentence: Seemingly only alive so people can replay their personal mian biwi fights
So, I can gracefully chicken out of having to write all these responses. Will get back to Dost Mittar's other post on the subject we were discussing in my next post (Inshallah, Brahman willing, and with God's help).
PS: Arjun: First you threaten to reveal to the Department of Homeland Security the dark secret that I am....dare I say....a muslim, as if the DHS was reporting to Modi. Now you ask me to compare tolerance levels in the US vs Pakistan - when in fact I was comparing tolerance levels with India, not the US. For some reason you are totally confused between India and the US and see them as one country. You really should step outside and get some fresh air more often.

What a great insight! So it all comes down to what smelly injuns believe and when they acknowlwdge that 'following Islam does not make u a pedo', aunties slide down the pike to kiss idli laden ass.

PPS Why is everyone on Tahmed sahab's tail?
Because unlike zeemax and echo who have been consistent in the views they espouse, prophet tahmed is a dishonest, hypocritical pos who loves the smell of his own farts as much as zeemax and echo love the pbuh guy and the pbuh guy's family..

DM,
Huh? Who’s talking about Urstruly?? I thought they buried him in that big red building. No??
And you don’t have to know anything about anything to have an opinion. We all can learn from tahmed and zeemax here. I guess the curse of google is here to stay.
If Quran and Muhammad are for Arabs, why are we discussing them?? What’s with tahmed’s obsession with Islam? Surely he is not an Arab … or is he? Or is he just confused??
#270 Posted by jang on July 24, 2007 3:12:10 pm
cliffy, you are missing arjuns point...it should be OK to discuss this kinda shyte..if mohammed is really revered, more the reason it should be ok to dis and cuss.

Amidst the darkness of interfaith dialogue here on chowk which hopefully is not a good representation of real life a couple of things are worth mentioning ...actually just one thing...Arjun says " Personally, I don't think any religion encourages anything or that being a follower of islam makes anyone a pedo"
Thanks for the honest acknowledgement. And as for the literal re-enactment of the Prophets life we have been through this already, noone lives like that. This is a really pointless topic. Seemingly only alive so people can replay their personal mian biwi fights.
PS has anyone heard of Ijma?
PPS Why is everyone on Tahmed sahab's tail? from what i can tell he has a pretty non offensive view of religion, is that not enough for you? Must everyone be atheist?

sattar2:
Thanks, but I do not want to get caught into a crossfire between you and Urstruly, esp. since I do not know much about Mirza Saheb, other than reading your posts.

DM,
Yes, I can accept that Quran is for Arabs only … but that’s not the point …
What’s with tahmed’s obsession with Quran anyway? Surely he is not an Arab. Or is he? Or is his a case of “Arab envy”?
And when an Urdu speaking person (Mirza Sahib) claims to be a prophet, tahmed types are up in arms … accusing Ahmadis of setting up intermediaries between man and god. WTF??
I say, if Quran and Muhammad are for Arabs alone, what’s for Urdu speaking folks? Mirza Sahib? And why not? If Mohammad can be a prophet, why not Mirza??
tahmed’s logic is twisted and based on blind faith. And I am still not sure of what to make of this obsession with Arabs or criticism of Ahamdis.
