If there is no censorship, it is meaningless to have any rules. Chowk will continue to be a free-for-all site (namely, the lowest common denominator will rule!).

Self-regulation my friend. I'm sure you're familiar with the concept. It is a real problem over here. It is full of irresponsible people.

Please do not misinterpret me. I was simply responding to Gill Saheb's post#148 as, according to you, he is the one who is moderating the chowk these days. Personally, any sensitivity I had to the kind of language used at chowk has completely disappeared over the years.

zeemax: I dont know who you think you are ridiculing by posting those pictures of wounded or dead Indian soldiers, but it is certainly not Indians, and certainly not these soldiers who are in fact public servants doing their duty and deserve to be saluted as such. It is because of such public servants around the world that the law of the jungle protects all of us.
As for nutcases like arjun or jayp, are these the individuals you want to "compete" with? If you must "compete" with them, at least do so more effectively than by shooting yourself on the foot by ridiculing pictures of people in agony!!
Let me therefore teach you as follows :-)
if I were you, and wanted to spend my time reading and responding to posts from Jay Thakeray, I would do so by attacking the holes in his posts (and there are more holes in posts written by Jay Thakeray or "paki paki" arjun than swiss cheese). This will make them look like the nuts that they are to any normal person following the discussion, and make you credible. You are "achieving" the opposite when you post these pictures.
End of lecture. Class dismissed. I must now go an get groceries :-(

So, what does a forum do when self-regulation is not working? BTW, are you aware of a non-academic forum, on or off internet, where self-regulation does work in the context of lively discussions on subjects about which people are highly emotional and passionate?

#164 Posted by tahmed32,
Thanks for the lecture, but no thanks. I would rather look for arguments and burden my mind for discussing with the sane ones. As for these monkeys, a picture or two is enough.

Yes I do know of such a forum. It was called chowk.com. But regrettably that was before the low-middle class bhartis flooded it.
(I didn't say that. An interactor named sac said that.)

Look mohar11, I used to have discussions with you before you became of this mindset as well. So whatever your contentions are, I won't argue. However, I will say that Pakistan is turning more and more hardline because of precisely the attitude that you and your ilk display.

Sorry zee, this is not true and I have been here longer than you have been [I'm the chronicler, remember? :)]. As for Indian chowkies, our frind Jay has been here as long as I have been and others like harimou, arjun and mohar have been here for several years, too, as have been their Pakistani counterparts but I prefer not to name them.

[...I will say that Pakistan is turning more and more hardline because of precisely the attitude that you and your ilk display...]
And what's wrong with that?... pakiland can turn as "hardline" as it could... that works for us hinuds, in so many different ways - so we are just helping along...
besides - that's pakiland destiny... to be completely islamic and "hardline"... who are we to stop pakiland from reaching its destiny?...

I’ve been asking myself this question with increasing frequency. In the absence of compelling people like fuzair,SameerJB,SR and countless others, it is only a matter of time.
A webiste that has Veeresh(lack of chemist shops in Rawalpindi fame) and urstruly as some of the more prolific contributors and that shows an increasing number of "middle-class" Indians with their oh so predictable cut and paste routines doesn’t augur too well for the future.
The Pakistani shortcomings are well known but for all the pride inherent in a so-called democratic India its "middle class" denizens show a remarkable lack of civility and accomodation in their interacts. Looking at these interacts in terms of a winner take all attitude leaves us with the worst possible outcome....a playing field left for the extremists exemplified by the likes of echoboom and arjun_m. While there may be some satisfaction on part of the moderates with the retarded fringes from both sides at each other’s throats, it does not leave any room for stimulating and positive debate.
Chowk’s ultimate demise will not be such a calamity however future attempts at building communities may require more of a country club attitude to keep the riff-raff...eh "middle-class" out.
