These poets are notoriously fickle! They get people into trouble all the time.
Now, if only you all had had a LAWYER leading you at the time of independence, things would have been better. At least they could NEVER have turned so bad!
Hmmmm....

Yaar, my original post was to that HP character. However, he has gone hiding in the loo again! (Who can blame him?!) So you will have to do!
First, all those antics (SEATO, etc.) and those “latest” arms – what have they done for your country?! Did you get them for free? If not, who paid for them? What do you have to show for them?
Do not give me that line about “Pakistan has survived” braggadocio – you know it is a decimated and devalued country compared to those days of the 1950’s – even compared to those traumatic years of the early 1970’s – and it is unfortunately not showing signs of things moving in the correct direction! And it is clear as daylight that Pakistani policies – virtually in every area – are to blame!
If there are ninety-nine right ways of solving any problem (even the most trivial ones) – and only one way of messing it up – the Pakistanis have the “God-“given ability to find that one way, head straight for it, and hit it in the bulls-eye style! :(
Second, that great “friendship” with China – in return for that “gift” of one-third of Kashmir! What did that “friendship” accomplish you? Do you remember when mian Mushy made that desperate run to Beijing in June 1999 – subsequent to the Kargil initiation? Did they come to your rescue? Were they a friend in “need”? You gift them one-third Kashmir and THIS is what you get?!
Even a little application of brains will make it clear – you have been had! What are you – totally incapable of applying even a little bit of brains?! Talking of gifting one third – why not gift that same fraction to India and buy YOURSELF some peace and quiet?! Which gift would have been better served YOU?!
Third, even a child should be able to understand the devastating effect of Pakistan’s involvement in Afghan war, its building up of the jihadi infrastructure (now entrenched within its own body proper and growing almost in a cancer-like manner!). Are you even less intelligent than a common child? What are you – a newborn or just another chowk plant trying to rile people up?! :)
Don’t concern yourself with India – it is doing quite well – no thanks to the Pakistanis, of course!

Subh-e-Aazaadii
Ye daagh daagh ujaalaa, ye shab-gaziida sahar,
Vo intizaar thaa jis-kaa, ye vo sahar to nahiiN,
Ye vo sahar to nahiiN jis-kii aarzu lekar
Chale the yaar ke mil-ja`egi kahiiN na kahiN
Falak ke dasht meN taroN kii aakhiri manzil,
KahiN to hogaa shab-e sust mauj kaa sahil,
KahiN to jaake rukegaa safiina-e-gham-e-dil.
JawaaN lahu kii pur-asraar shaahrahoN se
Chale jo yaar to daaman pe kitne hath paRe;
Diyaar-e-husn kii be-sabr khwaabgaahoN se
Pukaarti-rahiiN baahen, badan bulaate-rahe;
Bahut 'aziiz thii lekin rukh-e-sahar ki lagan,
Bahut qariin thaa hasiinaN-e-nuur kaa daaman, ,
Subuk subuk thii tamannaa, dabii dabii thii thakan.
Sunaa hai ho bhii chukaa hai firaaq-e-zulmat-o-nuur,
Sunaa hai ho bhii chukaa hai visaal-e-manzil-o-gaam;
Badal-chukaa hai bahut ahl-e-dard kaa dastuur,
Nishaat-e-vasl halaal o 'azab-e-hijr haraam.
Jigar kii aag, nazar kii umang, dil kii jalan,
kisii pe chaara-e-hijraaN kaa kuchh asar hii nahiiN.
KahaaN se aa'ii nigaar-e-sabaa, kidhar ko ga'ii?
Abhii charaagh-e-sar-e-rah ko kuchh khabar hii nahiiN;
Abhii giraanii-e-shab meN kamii nahiiN aa'ii,
Najaat-e-diidaa-o-dil ki ghaRii nahiiN aa'ii;

Freedom's Dawn (August 1947)
Ye daagh daagh ujaalaa, ye shab-gaziida sahar,// Vo intizaar thaa jis-kaa, ye vo sahar to nahiiN ... three Poems by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, translated by V.G. Kiernan
FAIZ AHMED FAIZ
This leprous daybreak, dawn night's fangs have mangled --
This is not that long-looked-for break of day,
Not that clear dawn in quest of which those comrades
Set out, believing that in heaven's wide void
Somewhere must be the stars' last halting-place,
Somewhere the verge of night's slow-washing tide,
Somewhere an anchorage for the ship of heartache.
When we set out, we friends, taking youth's secret
Pathways, how many hands plucked at our sleeves!
From beauty's dwellings and their panting casements
Soft arms invoked us, flesh cried out to us;
But dearer was the lure of dawn's bright cheek,
Closer her shimmering robe of fairy rays;
Light-winged that longing, feather-light that toil.
But now, word goes, the birth of day from darkness
Is finished, wandering feet stand at their goal;
Our leaders' ways are altering, festive looks
Are all the fashion, discontent reproved; --
And yet this physic still on unslaked eye
Or heart fevered by severance works no cure.
Where did that fine breeze, that the wayside lamp
Has not once felt, blow from -- where has it fled?
Night's heaviness is unlessened still, the hour
Of mind and spirit's ransom has not struck;
Let us go on, our goal is not reached yet.
Dawn of Freedom (August 1947) (Literal Translation)
This stain-covered daybreak, this night-bitten dawn,
This is not that dawn of which there was expectation;
This is not that dawn with longing for which
The friends set out, (convinced) that somewhere there we met with,
In the desert of the sky, the final destination of the stars!
Somewhere there would be the shore of the sluggish wave of night,
Somewhere would go and halt the boat of the grief of pain.
By the mysterious highroads of youthful blood
When (we) friends set out, how many hands were laid on our skirt's;
From impatient sleeping-chambers of the dwellings of beauty
Arms kept crying out, bodies kept calling;
But very dear was the passion for the face of dawn,
Very close the robe of the sylphs of light.
The longing was very buoyant, the weariness was very slight.
-- It is heard that the separation of darkness and light has been fully completed,
It is heard that the union of goal and step has been fully completed;
The manner of the people of suffering (leaders) has changed very much,
Joy of union is lawful, anguish for separation forbidden.
The fire of the liver, the tumult of the eye, burning of the heart, --
There is no effect on any of then of (this) cure for separation.
Whence came that darling of a morning breeze, whither has it gone?
The lamp beside the road has still come no lessening,
The hour of the deliverance of eye and heart has not arrived.
Come, come on, for that goal has still not arrived.

ajeya: you write USA is doing just fine not cooperating with Cuba. India's economy is doing just fine without more "cooperation" from Pakistan.
er...i dont have the heart to break this to you, but India is not exactly the USA. And Pakistan isnt exactly Cuba either. And even in case of US, anyone who understands business or isnt totally stupid would ever make such an arrogant statement as you just did.

Clifton, In my heart I am Dravidian. Isn't that enough? :)
Besides, I never questioned anybodies loyalties. I was making observations on what was obviously a flamboyant claim by an outsider on Indian affairs.

Mohajir guys,
Now 80, he says he remembers beginning to leave for Pakistan in the days after partition. However, Jawaharlal Nehru personally visited villages to plead with Muslims not to leave Delhi.
"[Nehru] said to us, 'This is your home; stay.' And my father did, but some of my relatives left. I went to Pakistan once to see them 10 years ago. I went to Lahore and Karachi. But they were in bad conditions. They had to rely on the government over there, which did not want to help. You see, it was not home."
All in all, Haji Fatoo says he is happy to be in India. His children have married and, he says proudly, had sons. He retains some land and still keeps buffalo - although killing cattle has "become harder" thanks to resurgent Hindu sentiment in recent years.

[And no doubt, the historical imperitive is for cooperation, not competition, between India and Pakistan..]
Why is it IMPERATIVE for India to cooperate with Pakistan?
USA is doing just fine not cooperating with Cuba. India's economy is doing just fine without more "cooperation" from Pakistan.
So WHY does India have to cooperate with Pakistan?
I fail to understand this logic. Explain this to those of us who are "self-absorbed" and lacking in insight.
Go on. Please explain....

Yaar, at least say that you were abusing someone just for the fun of it. That's ok. Or tell us what you know about General Zahir.
Otherwise, how do you expect anybody to read your posts, and believe they mean anything? :(
