Truly Secular Pathans are there and are doing a good job as Pakistanis. The real reason why that is is that secular Pushtuns like Javed Saifullah and Anwar Saifullah etc don't feel the urge to whine and bitch about their lot since they've done well for themselves.

Pushtuns have always been a deeply divided society. When you raise the cry of Pushtun Nationalism, it goes without saying that within that voice is the voice of the Pushtun Islamist... especially if that Pushtun Deobandi Islamist was the biggest ally of the Pushtun Nationalist pre-1947.

Truth be told... Pushtuns are highly represented in the Pakistan Army... Pakistan's capital is brimming with Pushtuns ... Pushtuns are probably the last people to complain... and most reasonable Pushtuns don't, because most reasonable and hardworking Pushtuns have prospered from Pakistan... look at the Saifullahs or the Marwats for example?

Javed Saifullah's last payout in a telco for 11% shareholding was US $ 291 Million and that was just one pay out. Today the net Saifullah worth is manifold that.
So enterprising hardworking Secular Pushtuns like the Saifullahs have done very well.

The ‘Punjabi-gardi’ is what I call it!
It’s the most dangerous thing happened to us Pakistanis. Here we have people who act as a classic tri – victim, accused and the judge. Punjabi’s eat resources claiming that they produce everything from wheat to cotton. There claim of fame also happens to be ‘the poorest of the Lott’, hence giving them license to get / grab the share of other provinces.
Today thanks to Punjab & Co. three provinces stand isolated then ever before. Leaders of Punjab – Nawaz Sharif & Co. with the slogans of ‘Jaag Punjabi Jaag’ had in there time robbed other provinces to invest more in Punjab. The average Punjabi(s) support for Nawaz Shairf has a lot to do with Nawaz being a Punjabi Speaking Man – and the movement against Mushraff in Punjab is because of his ethnic origins.

I have no objection to the contention of the so-called "exploitation" of NWFP. Even though the military rule and vicious dictatorships are solely responsible for this exploitation but if punjab gets balmed for that then it is well deserved. Punjab has historically cozied up military dictators and has lawys been last in any movement against dictators. NaPak fouj, which is the biggest yateem khana in country has its most yateems from Pakistan, but propotrtinately even more so from NWFP.

But my contention is with authors assretion about the name NWFP. The historical facts establish that there never existed in history an entity called "Pakhtoonistan". As a matter of fact, since the times long before Jesus (pbuh) and Buddha, the present day NWFP has always been a part of Punjab. As a matter of fact all areas East of Hindukush Range and including some parts of it have been a part of Punjab. After Mohammad Bin Qasim until invasions of Mahmud Ghaznavi the areas were part of Punjab. During Mahmud Ghaznavi and some time during Ahmad Shah Abdali invasions some parts of Punjab were lost to Kabul but areas of NWFP never had their unique political identity.

The Pakhtoon Chauvinism was the creation of Soviet Communism and its front line agents in this area who had to break the Muslim nationalism through ethnic Chauvanism. The strategy worked veryy well in Arabia by Briton against Ottomans. So Soviets thought that it could be used again another Muslim entity. It worked very well in East Pakistan, but in NWFP it became the last nail in the coffin of Communist colonialsm.

And surely it was by design of the 'Punjabi' Nawaz Sharif's Jaag Punjabi Jaag that the Islamabad-Peshawar M-1 he started in 1998 over and above those between other Punjab cities, is still to be completed after many halts and starts, while the Lahore-Faisalabad section started much later after he was removed was completed a year ago under non-Punjabi rule.

...i think that tells most of the story. Also your (NWFP)contribution to GDP is almost half of Karachi which is a city NOT a province ....and your contribution to revenue is about ten times lower. Also NWFP is the only province where female literacy was 0.5% at partition and has gone up by 50% since (o.k now its 0.75) ....do you think maybe your culture has an inherent problem that cant be blamed on the pakistan govt?

The govt has three times the educational institutes in the NWFP compared to baluchistan but school enrollment went up three times more in baluchistan than NWFP in the last 5 years ...why/

I apologize for the nasty comments re. the pathans of karachi, they are most welcome to come and find their future like the rest of us. The rest of us do not want to be ruled by the MMA...and the vast majority of us vote for "that terrorist organization" and will keep them in power till a better secular option comes along so please just keep that in mind before deciding on a destination to immigrate.

There is a village near Rohtas fort jhelum called khan boyki, the story is when sher shah suri had the fort built he also settled the pathans there, when I lived in Dina all the boys around there were really mad about the pathan kuriaN of that village because of they beauty nearly everyone wanted to get married to them.
