Re: # 79
I hope I am wrong too, but the writing is on the wall. As the dictator clings to the power by making deals with bezamir, the later will have to payback her dues to the Great Satan for the favor. Nothing is free. As she does that the anti-colonial freedom movement will divert its attention towards PPP, its official, and its structure. PPP will be encouraged by the dictator and their master Great Satan to form death squads just like Shias did in Iraq under the guidance of Negroponte. The kurds of Pakistan will of course be the MQM who has already started flexing its muscles by targeted assassination of lawyers, political opponents, and dissidents. It is anybody's guess that it is the prelude to the deja vu of the pogrom of ethnic cleansing that MQM unleashed upon the non Mohajir population of Karachi and Hyderabad during the 10 years in 1986-97. During that time the violence in Karachi was just a game for the napak fouj and its dictator of that time to stay in power; but this time it is the matter of survival for the whole napak fouj.Because the logical conclusion to the events that have been started by the massacre of school girls by dictator and napak fouj in Islamabad is that that either napak fouj will survive or their nemesis the people of Pakistan as a free soveriegn nation. Both conclusions are mutually exclusive.

Re: # 80, I agree with you Salim Bhai but Welcoming Benazir Bhutto - with all what she did to us ( Urdu Speakers ) is a strategic decision taken in the best interest of Karachi and Hyderabad but that does not mean that MQM have laid down in front of Bibi. Sometimes you have to compromise – for your interest – we can not jepordize the development of City Government and MQM’s plans for Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah & Sukker.
Yes on principle MQM’s decision is wrong but you need to re-adjust your policies in practicle politics and that’s what MQM has did – we had earlier boycotted couple of elections and the result was political victimization , extra judicial killings and non-development of urban Sind. MQM is part of the current government – but has a clear and principled stand as a coalition partner and has been effective in putting pressure on government to change and stop decisions which would have hurt the interest of Sind and Pakistan.
Mulana Urstruely,
Branding MQM as Kurd – is hilarious. Going with your line – I wonder who are the Americans Occupiers? Punjabis? Surely Pakhtoons must be Al-Queda !!!

urstruly i think you will find that MQM killed more muhajirs than any other ethnicity in karachi. And they only came into power after the attacks on unarmed muhajirs by the sindhis in 77 and the pathans in 86.
Either case i think its a moot point clearly the important ideologic lines in pakistan are secular vs nonsecular , not so much ethnic. And actually i think the army plays for both sides.

did some one said 65-70%.
Question is what....??
the last time I checked with the CBR's data, Taxes contribute about 9.2 % of the GDP.
and karachi COLLECTS , note COLLECTS , it does not genereates, It COLLECTS , just like a Bank Cashier about 49-50% that too of Income tax...which include abolut 32-30% from the Corporate Sector...
just for your info, in the year 2004-05 Islamabad COLLECTED about 23-24% of these Corporate Taxes.
I will post the complete picture , tommorrow, my Office times up....and had to go...
just one more little bit...
Pakistan's GDP is about $ 160 billion, of which Punjab contributes 53% , Sind 27%, NWFP about 14 % and Balochistan about 6%.
this loopsided growth , implies that about 80% of the GDP is generated in just two, by disproportionaly grown Sindh and Punjab.
Karachi was ONCE an emerging Industrial Power house, thanks to the MQMization, now all they have is another grieveance, another victimization story of Punjabs hegemony over Industrialization......
Period.

more than half of sindhs GDP (17% of the national GDP) is created by karachi ...that is more than the entire provinces of baluchistan and NWFP and the rest of sindh.

and Musharraf's rise to power is no exception.
There was a Mirza Aslam Beg before Him.
...and about that Gohar Ayub's attorcities in Lalu Khet, there was this I think Polish Students research, which attributed it to the Land Mafia's struggle between a predominately Urdu speaking and a Predomintley Pashto speaking , for the Prime Lands in Federal A,B and C areas.
..which was later twisted and given an ethnic color.

KSE was the top SE in 2006 and is in the top ten this year ...its not all about GDP ...people keep forgetting that karachi is a CITY and even then it beats most provinces in GDP ...all provinces in terms of revenue and the whole world when it comes to its stock exchange.

#82, IB {"Sometimes you have to compromise – for your interest – we can not jepordize the development of City Government and MQM’s plans for Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah & Sukker."}
IB Sahib,
I am all for progress and modernization and even compromise. I just want to see the leopard's old and new spots before changing my opinion about her. At least the MQM should have pried a Mea Culpa from this greedy ex-PM. She should publicly disavow Najisoola BurbuR.
Anyway, I think that the MQM is making a big mistake by siding with Mushy and PPP. Mushy is doing the doggy paddle and BB is like a rusty iron anchor instead of a life preserver for him.

MQM has antagonized and completely alienated the ordinary Sindhis, the very people who hosted most of the migrants from India. Sure, the Sindhi feudal culture has many faults, and more than its share of blame; in Pakistan, which culture doesn't?
With great educational, administrative, and business advantage, Mohajirs - with a far more egalitarian and open mindset - had not only the opportunity, but the duty, to work for the uplift of all Sindhis. Alas, they blew it big time.
Even before MQM, they have fared a lot better than has been the lot of most Sindhis in Pakistan, not to speak of Balochis and Pashtuns - yet the whining continues with contemptuous disregard for the plight of the rest of the Sindhis.
But then, who said that one has to have kindness, love, and sensitivity for the suffering of others? Why bother with notions such as sharing and justice? Its all in how a community treats its women, and I guess mohajirs treat them a whole lot better than any other native culture in Pakistan.
Punjab has transformed itself; in Sindh the ethnicities live to fight and kill each other, pulling the province deeper and deeper into a hell hole.
Karachi of my childhood ceased to exist decades ago. Now there is just one huge Lal masjid in there.
Mission accomplished! We can all revel in our glorious achievements.

Why not turn all Pakistan into 'Heera Mandi' where every woman becomes a 'heera' (diamond)?

Well done dear! Today it is the Matarua gardi at its worst. Just consider the statement made by the ex-commando in the Supreme Court yesterday. He will take off uniform only if he is elected as a president. Isn't it end of it all?
