Philosophy is a vast subject. This article covers quite a bit within its short confines and provokes a lot of thought.Well done.

How many contemporary philosophers do we have? We're dependent on thoughts/ideas that're many, many centuries old. Presently I believe there's a paucity of thinking persons hereabouts.
But, yes, you've done much homework and I enjoy your writing, Gopal. More power to your pen.

Hey Fellows:
Have you read the recent article authored by Ferzana Versey? See: http://www.counterpunch.com/versey09142007.html
I must say it is an excellant and thoughtful column written by her in On-Line paper "Counterpunch". I enjoyed it very much. Pity she has lost all interest in CHOWK nowadays and nowhere to be seen!!

why monopolize? Let's ask: how many in the East can tell the difference between faith and philosophy? May be they can create a specialized branch for us called the philosophy of faith, or faith philosophy, and teach in that in the schools of divinity (schools of devilism, if Christian fundamentalist want to exercise their own faith)
Why hijack? As cobes said, whatever can be hijacked will be hijacked.
In your essay you lament the west is abandoning philosophy. That might be the case but seems unlikely.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan,
I can assure you Philosophy (Eastern and Western and in between) is being discussed in Interdisciplinary and Humanities programs in four year universities. A few mainstream media outlets are featuring philosophical essays and pieces every week or so-and the approach is more interrogating.
