Naipaul was in India some months ago and acted like a volcano that knew it was going extinct....spewing bitterness and grab-attention-at-any-cost type of remarks. The press had a gala time but many of us were disgusted and sorry to see that his brilliance and humour seems to have become petulance and old age dementia, almost!!

Re: # 20

Oye you sound like that older wife who theatens her husband that either she would live in his house or his new bride. It kinda puts everything in perspective about the phrase "chala hoa kartoos"

Re: # 21

kamath,

i am just trying to rattle his cage:) ..... the man suffers from schizophrenia, paranoia and all sorts of other mental disorders ..... his biggest ailment and crime against humanity (specially children and juveniles)is sheer stupidity .....take away his mills and boone handbook and the nineteen sixties commie rhetoric and the man is nothing but a hollow shell .......... . i have not seen anything like him on chowk since the insufferable khalid poser ......

Hamidm: You seem to be so bitter about Masadi! Why? He looks OK to me!

I agree that Dalrymple tend to or appear to take sides but Dalrymple is a scholar-writer, whereas this Nai is a superannuated writer and jerky.

'The wisdom, the warmth, the humour, and above all the compassion have all gone from the prose;...'

If these ingradients dry-up in Naipaul, then he obviosuly is not a writer of significance.

Though I didnt read Naipaul (is he a nai/hazaam?), I heard him on TV interviews. He's a true sob. I dont know why Farrukh Dhondy writes reams of garbage eulogising this nai/hazaam.

Masadi writes:

"So if in the future you don't see my name in the posts, and are wondering what happened, either the hitmen of the imperialists got me- though they have better things to do, or the Chowk Staff has unceremoniosly thrown me out....."

Yeah, we were getting really worried. Alot of people seem to be conspiring against you masadi. Do you also see dead people?

dear nb,

Dishonesty is chowk staff's middle name (it reads: manto).

Perhaps you can dig up some of these spats and post 'em for us to read?
with much respect,
thinking storm

Chowk staff, it is not fair to publish this article without mentioning the fairly intense accusations and counter accusations that have gone between Naipaul and Dalrymple. Dalrymple is hardly a dispassionate observer. I think what you have done is extremely dishonest.
