New York city has in fact taken the cake second time in disrespecting its guests.

One time it happened in 90s when all (or most) of the world leaders were invited by United Nations to address their annual conventions. Yassir Arafat who had his Palestinian Authority as an official representation in UN was also invited. One night the then Mayor of NY, Guiliani invited all distinguished guests at a dinner banquet but when Yasser Arafat arrived at the banquet he was told by Guiliani to get lost right at the doors of the banquett hall. That really helped Guiliani win the jewish vote for his re-elcetion in the second term.

That is however, another story when these arrogant, ill-manared, and jahil americans had to suck up to Yasser and awraded him the Nobel.

And now this Jahil President of a supposedly "esteemed' educational institution, has topped Guiliani in biggotery and opportunism. No wonder where americans get their ethics. Have they have any shame.

Let me repost from my ilog (yesterday's), since it is relevant to this thread:

------------------

The entire Iran crisis is a manufactured crisis, manufactured by the US elite, in a geographic area in which they have a long tradition of not only supporting dictators, suppressing the people's voices and aspiration but also the barbarism of the kind we see in Iraq- using all lies in the book to kill over 1.2 million people, and maim and displace millions more.

Now when the Mullahs in Iran have been used by the Americans, strengthened by the Americans both against the democratic government of Mossadeq, as well as against the Shah when he became too powerful for comfort of the US elite (and Israel) and then to wholesale wipe out of the left's leadership in Iran, what should we expect with this posturing now, but a veiled dual fulfilment of motive? That the US was helping the Shah's Iran develop just this kind of nuclear power so that it would free the domestic use of oil is a historical fact, that every country has the right not only to develop nuclear technology for its power use but given that a few belligerent, barbaric and historically unreliable and trigger happy states have nuclear weapons, Iran has every right to have one as well. That Iran was moving leftwards before the nuclear issue was given undue dominance by the US elite which halted this leftward move and drove power right back to the Mullahs is also a fact. That this drive towards the Mullahs has helped them and has helped the foreign policy agenda of the war mongers among the US elite is a fact as well.

Ahmadinejad is merely leeching off the status that the power-state (U.S) has given him, that of a magnanimous (tantamount to Hitler according to the Fox News) enemy, to his people, a bulwark against imperialism- something that he didn't earn nor deserve. Neither he nor Iran (post the hostage crisis) has done anything at all to deserve the hate of the US public or be shown in images of the kind that are depicted. It is all a media blitz to convert a quite normal human being into a boogeyman that needs to be stopped because he is on a mad rampage, for those who remember how the Saddam image (or that of Libyan "madman" Qadhafi before him) was constructed by this very same corporate media , it would be deja vu...In all this the voice and struggle of the people is co-opted while the larger of the two Shaitans sets the agenda for the damn fools to posture (with their third rate missiles) and confuse the people regarding the real bread and butter issues facing the world....

This thing about wiping Israel off the map is totally misunderstood. The morons may please advise me how Rhodesia is no longer on the map. Or Tanganyika or the Trucial States.

not really...everyone is playing for a certain audience and the pres of colombia was playing for his benefactors. I think it was a good move by him.

Here is what Scott Adams of the Dilbert Cartoon fame thought about this issue:

A Feeling I'm Being Had

I was happy to hear that NYC didn't allow Iranian President Ahmadinejad to place a wreath at the WTC site. And I was happy that Columbia University is rescinding the offer to let him speak. If you let a guy like that express his views, before long the entire world will want freedom
of speech.

I hate Ahmadinejad for all the same reasons you do. For one thing, he said he wants to "wipe Israel off the map." Scholars tell us the correct translation is more along the lines of wanting a change in Israel's government toward something more democratic, with less gerrymandering.
What an ass-muncher!

Ahmadinejad also called the holocaust a "myth." Fuck him! A myth is something a society uses to frame their understanding of their world, and act accordingly. It's not as if the world created a whole new country because of holocaust guilt and gives it a free pass no matter what it
does. That's Iranian crazy talk. Ahmadinejad can blow me.

Most insulting is the fact that "myth" implies the holocaust didn't happen. Fuck him for saying that! He also says he won't dispute the historical claims of European scientists. That is obviously the opposite of saying the holocaust didn't happen, which I assume is his way of
confusing me. God-damned fucker.

Furthermore, why does an Iranian guy give a speech in his own language except for using the English word "myth"? Aren't there any Iranian words for saying a set of historical facts has achieved an unhealthy level
of influence on a specific set of decisions in the present? He's just being an asshole.

Ahmadinejad believes his role is to pave the way for the coming of the Twelfth Imam. That's a primitive apocalyptic belief! I thank Jesus I do not live in a country led by a man who believes in that sort of bullshit. Imagine how dangerous that would be, especially if that man had the
launch codes for nuclear weapons.

The worst of the worst is that Ahmadinejad's country is helping the Iraqis kill American soldiers. If Iran ever invades Canada, I think we'd agree the best course of action for the United States is to be constructive and let things sort themselves out. Otherwise we'd be just as evil
as the Iranians. Those fuckers.

Those Iranians need to learn from the American example. In this country, if the clear majority of the public opposes the continuation of a war, our leaders will tell us we're terrorist-humping idiots and do whatever they damn well please. They might even increase our taxes to do it. That's
called leadership.

If Ahmadinejad thinks he can be our friend by honoring our heroes and opening a dialog, he underestimates our ability to misinterpret him.

Fucking idiot. I hate him.

It was indeed shocking and unprecedented, and quite unbecoming of an institution like Columbia.

But what really happened was that the Uni President was under immense pressure from the congress to make amends for inviting Ahmedinejad, and the coward did his cowardly duty by insulting the guest without wasting any time.
