It seems like BBC has become a finishing school for south asian actors/directors before they go on to make it big in Hollywood, gurinder chadda, archie panjabi.
In UK asian actors appear on prime time dramas all the time it’s no big deal, maybe the reason is the community here is large relatively.
There is a pak-brit actor ahsen bhatti he played the role of a pimp in BBC drama the band of gold, the violence he meted out to white prostitutes was really shocking, but this guy can really act, he can even give naseeruddin shah run for his money.

This assimilation is not good to pakistani idendity. It is elites of west who want to deislamise young minds who are born to firm believers. The process of processing young muslims is same as making bread. First break them down pulverise and make redicule of good and bad things in islamic ethos then when they are deminaralised then fortify them with western ideas of rationality, socialism, homo and Transsexual , sex indendity confusion, thoughts, women freedom and misbehaviour as liberal good things like smoking,Zina sex , wearing tight western pants and upper tops which are really not meant for women with 5 children, gambling and now your islamic women in college are drinking to top of that drinking bear and munching burgers mixed with baCON PORK and eating bread made of lard which beef fats and pig fats.I am not against modernality little forlicking with opposite sex for fun but this other things are very degrading and honestly haram. It is sad this pakistani young man is doing all "get accepted" and has become Wanabi Gora christaian. Thinking secular , wondering about existance of god and almighty, profets , going vegetarian and at extreme end becoming vegan and at total perversion the worshipping animals and having pets specially dogs. ( Cats are ok they have tiger as ancestors and they spent all time grooming themselves many desi can learn from them and start taking two baths per day). What is use of person who is so processed to n th degree. That UK has done better as there are cities in uk where they are not trying to become like english gentleman. Places like bradford in england have heard at inner old city has color and atmosphere of any place in pakistan comeplete with butures offering real mutton and properly processed. Therese are real warriers and they are vanguards of coming islamic centers in europe. UK, germany and france, holland all europe has got these necleus which can expand with time. Suburban areas in some parts of paris are controlled by oppressed North african muslisms as uk as pakistani centric growth. Mr. Imran khan ( cricket) is vicechancellar of uk univ which is majority pakistani I am told. Assimilation is death seperateness is life and growth and future of european islamic hope lies there. Elites are trying to say and tell young man in west you may be muslim and you have no common thing with pakistani in heartland of pakistan. There is more connection with peole of heartland than just local white masses. Elites want to make muslims as ordinary citizens but truth is they are different and need to keep idendity intact and connection with Pakistani awam.

ahmedmadani sahib,
..... if i remember correctly, at one time you had advocated marrying white women so that we could have 'milk white' children ..... and i, along with many other 'wheatish' people had agreed ..... have you given up on that position ?
...... anyway, i don't think the elites of the west stand much of a chance in 'deislamising' young believers - the disease is incurable in most cases ........masadi is a prime example - even after spending a decade in the west he returned home without learning the art of personal grooming ........ in any case, i do feel your pain :)

ahmedmadani: I have seen those Bradford residents get into PIA planes from UK to Pakistan, and if they are your idea of the Pakistan identity, then God help Pakistan. They get into planes in "fancy", totally impractical clothes (ill-fitting 3 piece suits for men, and women dressed up with full make up and jewelry as if they were a tazia). Once I saw two of these "vanguard" women of yours get into a fight with two of these "vanguard" men sitting behind them, loudly claiming that the "vanguard" men had been doing some mischief. To which the "vanguard" man shouted "oye you shut up!!"
Please spare us such "vanguards". Just pray that in 10 generations they evolve into human beings.

Re: # 4 Mr. Arjun... I blame weak wanabis who want to be white when they have dark colored and have cream complexion obsession. I have crticised pakistani expaks.
You need to use good glasses from USA, pay good money in dollars there than expakis coming here to fix teaths, eyes, fixing baby fetuses and drinking beeer claiming water is bad in Karachi and raising prices for local people. I did just usa elits peripherialy, tamgent. You need pay real dollars and buy good glasses. You need glasses which can change you mood and find some positive in Pakistan.

Re: # 3 I will comment about that when nice mood. I do not like too intelligent people who remember some old things even I do remember. That may be written as misguided youth of yester years. But color is very
not important but VVvIP. later about that.

There you go again with your stereotypes. Here is an inspirational story I personally know the family, this guy’s dad came from Mirpur in the 1950’s to work in the steel mill in Sheffield. This guy is only educated to secondary level did various jobs in factories, he then set up a furniture import business and now he has set up an airline with flights to Islamabad.

The only relevance to pakistan.
An american portraying some one as a true green pakistani, and doing all harami things...well the only relevant question for you pakis is ..will there be a fatwa on the director???
Salamn rudhdie to some littele known carttonist in island have been honoured by fatwa from the paki jihadic scholars.
So my dear pakistanis, who will cast the first fatwa...the burkha mullah, or the hijack mulla asghar...or will it be tahmed?

aslam #8 That is inspiring indeed!! And you are absolutely right about not stereotyping, since in reality there are all types of people in every community - entrepreneurial as well as stuck-in-the-rut.
However, please note that my example were people whom madani sahib was presenting as being the "vanguard". That is, individuals who live in UK, but refuse to learn anything from the experience or to change anything. To launch an airline, you obviously need to have learnt a lot not just in a technical sense, but also in a cultural sense on customer service practices, staff relations, marketing, and so on. In other words, become assimilated and a positive part of the culture you have chosen to move to.

aslam,
......... i am sorry, but i have not seen anything good come out of pakis in the uk even though half my ancestral village lives in bradford, manchester and london ...... sir anwar and his bestway group is the only notable exception ..... the rest seem to be all incorrigible country bumpkins gin ka vilyat nay kuch nahin begara ....... the sad part is that their next generation seems to be equally isolated and cluless about the society they live in - brides and bridegrooms imported from mirpur and choa khalsa have ensured this rot ..........

I don’t know about the assimilated part this guy is a real fundo, I think the reason he’s been successful so far is because he’s a hard worker, he used to drive big lorry full of carpets from Belgium into UK.

That’s to be expected from people who are from rural background, gradual change is better than revolutionary change, its more organic and longer lasting.
I thing UK government will soon put an end to the importation of brides and bridegrooms.

#12 aslam: the man can either build up an airlines, or he can blow up airplanes and buses. he cant do both, unless he has more than 24 hours in a day and is the world's most screwed up psychopath.
as for being a fundo, that is his personal business as long as he does not use religion as an excuse to commit crimes. from what you describe, he is clearly a role model at least with respect to business enterprise. But this is the opposite of what madani had in mind, the one whose "identity" is so fragile they need to protect it every day by living in a prison of their own making.

All I can say is, let us discuss the program AFTER it is
shown.
I have seen the preview. It has a number of jokes based
on teenage hormonal topics that do go somewhat overboard
but the Pakistani kid comes out looking really good.
Bhai Arjun may have a fit, but the actor is Hindu so he
just might lighten up.
The Song for the show is done by Salman Ahmad & one local
singer whom I am not yet familiar with.
Parents are cautioned about the humor in this pilot
of the series. I hope they can tone it down a bit later.

We don’t want assimilation of this sort, unfortunately majority of men invovlved in the sex trade in UK are pakistani, you should see the cars they drive, they have expensive villas in spain where they take these girls for holidays, the bastards are giving the pak-brit community bad name.
“Pimping is lucrative. According to the Metropolitan Police Vice Squad, a pimp can make £300,000 to £400,000 a year selling a 16-year-old girl. There is, appallingly, no shortage of men who wish to buy them. The criminals often use the girls themselves to recruit their neighbours and school friends into the gangs. One mother, who used to drive around the town looking for her daughter when she went missing, says she once saw an older teenage girl apply make-up to two young girls in the street, while older Asian men, whom she recognised as pimps, waited by their BMWs. “The girls then were told to perform a ‘sexy dance’ for them,” says Jean. “But they were so young! I had watched them skipping earlier.”
Despite evidence from rigorous research by organisations such as Crop that the gangs are largely made up of men from the Pakistani Muslim communities, many are determined to downplay this. “What we’re dealing with is gross criminality,” says Kosaraju. “That should be confronted whatever the race of the perpetrator.”
Mike Cunningham, an assistant chief constable with Lancashire police, says he is aware that several recent cases reported to police in Lancashire have involved Asian men, but that the issue of sexual grooming of young girls is not based solely on race or culture.
“Offenders can and do come from a variety of cultural backgrounds,” says Cunningham, “and we deal with each case on its own individual merit.” He says he is not aware of “any accusations of racism from the accused or their respective communities”.
Historically, many of Britain’s pimps have come from immigrant communities – Jews in the early 20th century, Jamaicans and Maltese in the 1950s and ’60s. White, British-born pimps have tended to operate as individuals, rather than within criminal gangs. In recent years, however, young Asian men have been operating in formal, organised networks in the north of England, particularly in the impoverished towns with high unemployment and racial disharmony. “
