Puh-leeze,Ahmed Madani, you're kidding right?! Ragging is not restricted to India.I know for a fact that it exists in one form or the other, whether in educational institutions or on the streets in several countries near India and far away from India from first hand accounts from friends there.
The concept of ragging seems to have originated from the snobbish "public" schools in England where, rumour has it that even Prince Charles had his head held down and flushed in a toilet. All this, in the name of welcoming freshers into the group. But often breaking of bones take over from breaking the ice and sadistic bullies have their day with newcomers. Pro-ragging folk say that some of the greatest friendships were founded between the ragger and the ragged and anti-ragging folk (I belong there) say that nasty memories and mental scars are the result.
Ahmed Madani,
I think India may seem like a ragging-ridden place to you because people like Rohit discuss and write about it all the time. That has to be done to be able to do something about it and to expose any poison in our system, rather than to act as if nothing bad happens in our country and striking a holier-than-thou attitude or burying one's head in the sand and hoping it will go away, like the much-maligned ostrich!!

Education has becaome site to deny the opportunity. This hatred of others groups makes people poor in india and sikhs , muslims, buddha and dalit backward people have no money and they are suffering and ragginfg is way to deny them education.
