I liked that you quoted Khalil Gibran, but I think his entire message is appropriate, so here goes...

Pity The Nation

Pity the nation that is full of beliefs and empty of religion.

Pity the nation that wears a cloth it does not weave, eats a bread it does not harvest, and drinks a wine that flows not from its own winepress.

Pity the nation that acclaims the bully as hero, and that deems the glittering conqueror bountiful.

Pity the nation that despises a passion in its dream, yet submits in its awakening.

Pity the nation that raises not its voice save when it walks in a funeral, boasts not except among its ruins, and will rebel not save when its neck is laid between the sword and the block.

Pity the nation whose statesman is a fox, whose philosopher is a juggler, and whose art is the art of patching and mimicking.

Pity the nation that welcomes its new ruler with trumpetings and farewells him with hootings, only to welcome another with trumpetings once again.

Pity the nation whose sages are dumb with years and whose strong men are yet in the cradle.

Pity the nation divided into fragments, each fragment deeming itself a nation.

Khalil Gibran = The Garden Of The Prophet

It is true that so much unnecessary hero worshipping of useless singers/dancers/filmi artists is going on in south asia...Disgusting. Where the hell the thought process of Gen Next has gone ? There r no quiz / debates ( brain sharping progg ) etc on TV these days rather all the prime time is booked for nautch girls, bath room singers & Grade 2 heroines with painted red cheeks... Do they think only Marassis and Hijras r going to rule the country ???

IB,

... sorry, i forgot to mention sheikh rashid - between whacking off to playmates, pissing off adults by calling them petty bourgeois, smoking charas, popping mandys and drinking anything that had any alcohol in it, people did go to listen to sheikh rashid rant and rave against raja anwar ..... but they all returned to doing what comes naturally to young men ...... nobody talked about worshiping whackos like chomsky and criminals like aq khan ......

Re: # 29 That was funny and largely agreeable. I think after seeing Jiyalas welcoming BB, the only time all of us can be talking about real revolution is when we are having charas.
In our sober moments we are either at the airport welcoming the sold out woman or whacking on 5 year old issues of play boy

what happened to sex

......... there is something horribly wrong with the younger generation in pakistan today when young men write silly articles like this one ..... in the good old days, boys of abdul majeed's age used to admire beautiful women and whack off on five year old issues of playboy ....... oh sure, some of them used to admire lenin and mao and spouted off about the dictatorship of the proletariat and the sins of the petty bourgeois .... but they did that only when they were high on charas or other substances ........ most of the time, when they were sober, all they thought about was sex ........

...... what happened ?

it is good that writer knows about Naom Chomsky...it is sad that he puts him in the same category as AQ Khan. what eff?

nation building, economic progress etc are good and dandy..certainly needs attention of the nation. but a nation that writer wants to build and prosper with such a silly views on music and arts is not worth building.
thanks god most pakistani love music and having fun.

writer saab, listen more to your daughter (god bless her with dreams) than your neighbourhood mullah..that would be good for you, your daughter and your neighbourhood.:)

the great thing about these whacky articles is that they expose the complete ulta-phulta mind of the writer.

Imagine putting AQ Khan (nuclear thief and hoodlum) at the same level as people as Chomsky !! But I guess thats what this fellow learned in his islamiyat class - along with contempt for people who worship idols. What a nice mess of hatred and ignorance !!

hamid,

Come on now. Chowk without them and you would be ruled by the likes of romair and me. What do you have to say to that?

Re: # 21

allright ... you are a friendly planted scholar ...

... and i don't whine about the abuse flying around on chowk - i am proud to be a major contributor .... i just don't like it when people - sometimes well meaning - encourage fools ........ i don't believe that you can engage in a constructive dialog with idiotlogues like masadi, arjun, urstruly or jayp ........ hmmmmm, after looking at that list, i must admit that our idiots have more substance than yours, even though the substance is cow manure ........
