Bhai Dash Dot, if the situation has become even worse, you want me to rejoice or celebrate. What is the point here?
Muddle or Middle classes vs ordinary folk!!!!
Some issues are common to all whether we perceive them as such or not....
If harees are landless, does it justify what is happening right now....
If lawyers did not come out when NS stormed the SC, does that justify actions of Musharraf regime in 2007....
Shameless brutal exploitation is being institutionalized and my dear this is not merely a problem of middle class morality alone. Yes you may argue that it feels it more but it is an issue which can potentially affect all....

skeptical sahib(an) let us see,hhhhhhmmmm
(a) how many people get to use the law in pakistan?
(b) how many woman who are raped get to use the law and establish that they were raped (using science)?
(c) how many of the harees are free and can use the law of the land?
In the last 60 odd years this has been the play ground of the muddle-classes and they have kept out the ordinary folk.
How many of the lawyers came out when the thugs from Shareef-e-badmash turned the court into a dump.....how many from the muddle-class protested?
How many of the muddle-class protested when Bibi and hubs were increasing their bank balances?
None. You see all along the muddle-classes had their noses in the trough. They played the game.
Now the story is slightly different.
Money, Money, Money
Must be funny in the
muddle World

I think that was brilliantly put....
You have made the right case and those who are celebrating the emergency should read your post....
I really do not know that Pakistan has become a police state just to sustain a kanjar's rule and we have people actually supporting him by making comparisons of him with NS and BB. Why are we making these non sense comparisons....
The issue is that with the shameless purging of the judiciary, your institution building has faced another set back. Common man has lost a recourse against state brutality and some of us are rejoicing- abusing lawyers who are the only with guts and courage to stand up and get beaten for principles.
Here I have seen posts who are pointing to lack of protest as evidence for the justification for the kanjar's actions. Lack of protest does not justify what has happened. Common man is not directly affected-it is true but weakening of the judicial system will always harm him in the longer run and would lead to institutionalized state brutality.

What’s happening in Swat today is a boomerang effect of the bloody confrontation in Waziristan between the Pakistan army and the local militants up in arms against the military onslaught. The army hasn’t only been put on the defensive but, thus far, shown an incredible lack of gumption to fight those described in the half-baked GHQ jargon as ‘miscreants.’
///////////////
Ghori saab, the above quote is from your article and you have no clue about teh changes in teh pak army. Since the Zia days, pak army is a jihadic army, jihad in the name of god is the motto of the pak army. This was demonstrated during teh kargill, where the indian troops were killed and mutilated in the jihadic tradition, the same as what is being done in waziristan. The actions in waziristan is teh proof that what teh pak army did in kargill was in fact jihadic acts.
Now that teh pak army is a jihadic army, it cannot fight the fellow muslims. Immediately afyter the emergency, pak army got all its troops back because all teh trobals were released. This shows that the waziristan jihadis and teh pak army have the same motto.
Take it from me Ghori saab, there will be no more serious fights in waziristan. Helicopter gunships will be out of action. Th emergency is in fact pak military inspired to stp the fight against fellow muslims.

To all those who think that Mushy should be there I would say that please judge the resolve and aspirations of Pakistani nation in the proper context. Continuous interference of the establishment has not only destroyed the institutions (including democracy), but have made the ordinary person insensitive to the extent of almost indifference. But remember that we are the sons of same people who from one plateform or another fought for independence from British Raj, fought and spilled blood against rowlatte act, struggled against one of the super powers of its time for the rights of freedom, speech, expression and self rule. So, to say that in the greater public good and by watching broader picture, we should accept Mushy's rule which is nothing but rule of establshment then all of our freedom struggle should be flushed down the drain, and we should change our history books accordingly. We should then delete names of founding fathers of india & pakistan from our books and teach our children that these were the misguided souls who knew nothing, and glorify ayub khan, Zia and musharraf as the champions of virtues. As always choice is yours, which by the way has been suspended by the declaration of emergency.
When you say that the alternatives are worse, I agree. But in that alternative, one thing will be supreme which is that the country will be governed by peoples' representatives, however incompetent or corrupt they may be, and with the passage of time good leadership will emerge ultimately. Even such incompetent leadership can run the country. If you are in doubt, please have a look at Pakistan's neighbour. Do you think their political leaders are better than us, and yet they are on right track, at least when compared to us.
So, wake up. Don't be afraid of mayhem that will be caused by BB or Nawaz Sharif. One has to grow to be an adult by passing through all the confusions of teenage and childhood, so is the case with nations.
Regards

"In 60 years of tortuous meandering as a state, Pakistan has had more than its fair share of military dictators subverting the political and democratic process at will and holding the country ransom to their personal whims. Musharraf is the fourth in the gallery of rogues that have had the temerity to usurp the people of Pakistan’s civic and fundamental rights and lord over them like a God-sent avatar. The alibi, in every instance, was that the military intervention in politics was a ‘reluctant act’ necessitated by the duty to ‘save’ the nation."
It's begining to sound like a sick and very-tired joke: get a life, Mr. K.K. Ghori! I do believe that the adage "people in glass houses...." is most appropriately applicable to the media-folks who have to push-in the above-quoted few lines whenever writing on anything even remotely connected with Nation-State/Governance and the Military [Army, more specifically]
I have nothing more to add except to just remind you all that it is the media, specifically the visual one in the last 2 - 3 years, that has been the cause of glorifying terrorism: not only in Pakistan, but world-wide in the fre-media places!!
Cheers

Why be afraid of emergency? Take a look around you. Life is same.
Berserk media and lawyers did need a hard punch. See how these blackies had taken law on streets. And how the media was without any check and balance. They deserve worse, but Mushy's govt is still soft on them...just as it was soft on Lal Mosque people, till they went out of control.
Who is concerned whether we have martial law or emergency or the glorious democracy by holy Mian or BB. If the nation is against this Mushy's dogma, why they aren't on the streets. Oh please don't tell me they are afraid of the bullets and tear gas. They are already out in the city happily busy with their routine life and business, like me and you.

Pakistan has been ruled by Armed forces most of its life. For 2 reasons. Army took full advantage of Pakistan defense needs, and weak middle class.2. And American interest and Army's interest coincided.
Other thing is Pakistan has been unable to determine its direction. In the beginning, it was left vs right or communist vs islamist. Now there are other issues. Pakistan has not yet integerated into one nation with a common outlook, on at least some basic premises. Like democracy or one nation etc.
It is surprising with all these drawbacks Pakistan comprising of the most backward part of United India has come so far or at least survived.
Not for or against, at least take one premise. Pakistan first, or democracy first or human rights first or Islamic state first. Or altogether. Or do we need some Mahatir Mohammed to change the economic condition of people of Pakistan.

I find that many of the people protesting against Mushy have no answer when you ask them who they would have in his place. Look at the bigger picture and dont be such idealistic fools who would insist on bring Lakir ka fakir.
Also notice that many of these so called "civil society activists" are just the GT magazine crowd dying to get their pictures taken...they're the "social elite" who have no concern for Pakistan...history should tell us that by now. Begum Abida whatever the heck her name is and Sherry Rehman represent the worst in the rich class of Pakistan with too much time, too many opinions, not enough humility and absolutely no sincerity. Useless aunties!

Let's dissect.
Let's take the premise. Is country supreme or the people or both together? What is the direction of Pakistan? Pakistan has always this dillemma of survival and fear and so the dependence on armed forces. Should we weaken our defence. Let's see why is America fighting a war on terror. For its defence? . What should we do? The biggest Political parties (or electable people) are not in a mood to play the game. The so called movement. Is it self spiralling or is funded by someone else. I may have become pessimist over time. But if the main purpose of all this exercise is to weaken Pakistan and its security then it is a disaster. If it is to bring people's rule without jeopardizing the security and integrity of Pakistan, I would say. YES.

Election or no elecction -- there will be no resolution of this conflict -- unless and untill Musharraf licks his own spit on Supreme Court -- reverses himself totally and restores the original Supreme Court with no ifs and buts.
Till then no Blackcoat is going to argue before any of those imposter PCOed Turncoats.
Blackcoats zindabad! -- Turncoats muradabad.

Bush finally told Busharraf to end the emergency and hold election -- as if election is the panacea for all the ills that Musharraf has piled upon Pakistan. Bush should have told the rotten mango -- to end his rotten emergency -- and RESTORE the Supreme Court to its original shape -- and then hold 'fair free and transparent election' or whatever.
Because without Chaudhry, Ramday and Bhagwan himself -- any election under the nuqlee 'CJ' Doger sahib -- who gave back the Lal Masjid to the same extremist relatives of that slain Ghazi miaN -- as if it was his paternal property -- will only be a doggy dog election.

why the once professional Pakistan army
professional? really?
1965: Tried to take Srinagar but barely managed to save Lahore
1971: Killed a whole bunch of racially inferior short dark rice eating bingos. Dropped their pants and surrendered.
1999: Snuck up on mountain posts vacated by the Indian army. When the Indians counter attacked, turned tail and left the bodies behind( and blamed it on nawaz)
the fact is that they used to lose to india and win against the paki junta..now even the jihadis they nurtured are kicking their butts to the point where they're surrendering en-masse and having to use white phosphorus against school girls.

Question: why the once professional Pakistan army that now looks more and more like a mercantile militia can't get rid of its rotten mango -- not enough embarrassment yet -- waiting for cholera to break?
Question: why Benazir is outside the jail and Aitzaz Ahsan inside? Is she still cooking the Sindhi daal for Mareez Musharraf? Why PPP is not on the streets?
Nu pooch haal mera chaub-e khushk sehra hoon
