oh by the way, the finger prints on the hellfire will be of the Mullah, it will be blamed on him but executed by the US of course....

By the way, according to surface appearances Musharraf didn't hop to, to Negroponte's final warning to him. Musharraf wont give up his uniform, that was the main reason behind the emergency. This leaves the only other option left for the US in their dealing with him, a hellfire aimed for his a$$, which in all probability will happen before the January elections if the fallen out of favor peon does not rescind the emergency and take off his uniform.....as I have been saying for well over 6 months now. You'd think I was a soothsayer but I say predictions are much easier, and much more accurate once you understand the institutional structure of a society and the US role in it......

PESHAWAR, Nov 16: The jailed chief of the defunct Tehrik Nifaz-i-Shariat Muhammadi (TNSM), Maulana Sufi Mohammad, was shifted to Peshawar from the Dera Ismail Khan prison on Friday and admitted to the Hayatabad Medical Complex.
...... instead of killing the bastard, musharraf is negotiating with him .... no wonder the country is being overrun by these swine and their offspring .....

Finally, Nawaz Sharif finds his voice
Pakistan's One-Man Calamity
By Nawaz Sharif
Washington Post, Saturday, November 17, 2007
JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia -- My country is in flames. There is no constitution. Judges have been sacked on a whim and arrested, political leaders locked up, television stations taken off the air. Human rights activists, lawyers and other members of civil society are bearing the brunt of a crackdown by a brutal regime. Extremism has assumed enormous and grave proportions.
..
We are struggling for the restoration of genuine democracy in Pakistan. Our jails should be filled with criminals and law-breakers, not politicians and law-abiding lawyers. The army of Pakistan should be defending the liberty of the people at the direction of elected, civilian leaders, not usurping power and creating a police state. Musharraf is the problem, and he should quit -- both as army chief and as president.

Dear writer,
Brilliant article, excellent summation. Unfortunately, listening to the popular opinion in Pakistan, one is reminded of the saying "can pigs fly". Chances are very dim for such a realization and even more worrying factor is the connivance of the Generals in power. As long as we have the same power groups in control, not much can change its going to get only worse.

Yes Pakistan is at war, but the war is between citizens of Pakistan and the najaiz aulaad of East India company i.e. the corrupt, pro-Western elite, and its muscle the harmkhor anti-pakistan napaak fouj.

My God this article was such bullshit that I could hardly go through it. This guy must either be totally delusional, or he's one of those speaks with some agenda....and it doesn't look from this article that we're dealing with that kind of intelligence. Its just screaming all kinds of hysterical nonsense about Pakistan being under attack....and threat to survival....he may as well throw in that Team American song:
"Freedom is the only way....America....fuck yeah!!"
What an idiot!
There is no such thing as Al Qaeda...I challenge you to find someone even 7 degrees removed from you who belongs to Al Qaeda...I tried out of curiosity and couldn't come up with anything. There is Taliban...but you totally misunderstand that issue all together and I won't bother getting into it here.
The reasons for this current violence are the Pakistani government fighting an American war the American way....lots of "Collateral Damage" (Killing innocent civilians), "Extra Ordinary Renditions" (kidnapping), and "Stepped up interrogation techniques" (Torture) in the name of the "War on Terror" (War on Muslims on behalf of the paranoid imperialist racist Likunids and PNAC Crowd).
Why not understand an issue before writing a shit piece Mr Hussain?

A totally BS article that is trying to present problems that were created by a farce of the US, its war on terror and the resulting undeclared war on Pakistan's trial areas by illegal incursions of the borders as well as by the Pakistan Army, that resulted in butchering of civilians, to mythical "foreign fighters". A cat and mouse game of deceit created by the ISI/Pak Army and fueled by the US WOT and its illegal invasion of Afghanistan.
The Taliban emerged out of the same factory for creating "Mujaideen", a factory that was constructed and run and managed by the US elite. After achieving their objective of destroying millions of Afghans and all remnants of a civil society in Afghanistan the US left not caring about the aftermath, much like it will do in Iraq after its illegal invasion and the butchering of millions of Iraqis. The Taliban fluorished in that mayhem. Now that a similar mayhem is being created in Pakistan by a sob who is destroying our civil society on behalf of the Americans, and deliberately creating siutaions in FATA that will breed hatred, the Taliban types are going to fluorish again. Now when greater number of foreign fighters were roaming those areas in the 1980s and we had the same government (i.e. the Pak Army) in place why were there not any suicide bombings or incursions into the heartland for the purpose of taking over and why now? Think about this before you write idiotic articles which are veiled support of the US and its miserable policies and the rulers it supports...The Taliban are the vultures and the hyenas that feed off the kill of their master, their masters are the US elite and they kill and destroy on a level the Taliban can never approach even in their wildest fantasies...

I agree whoheartedly with the premise of this article that -- there is little doubt that Pakistan is under attack by the combined forces of Al Qaeda, Taliban and General Musharraf.
It is equally clear that the war is going well for the two attackers -- the Talibans and the Al Qaeda -- but not for the third attacker Musharraf.
The Extremist just now shut the GEO TV -- one of the most moderate, balanced, professional TV channels to emerge from South East Asia.
The coward commando -- who commands half a million strong professional army -- that he brags is "absolutely loyal" to him like a dog -- as if he got this personal militia as dowry from his father-in-law.
Yet he is so afraid of a mere TV channel -- that actually built his crummy career by broadcasting his rambling verbal diarrhea almost on weekly basis -- yet he bit the very hand that fed him.
Musharraf as a habitual offender once again soiled, not only his reputation shutting a decent media channel -- but apparently his khaki pants as well -- he was so mortally afraid of it.
Today the big brave Pakistan army must be feeling so small so ashamed of itself -- for being led -- as a personal property -- by a miserable coward like Musharraf -- who is afraid to death of the printed and the spoken word.
Shame on Musharraf for shutting the GEO TV. It is time for the army and the country to shut this man up -- and let the GEO do the talking.

Re: # 1 SaimaShah
"All of Pakistani soceity has to cooperate to end the Taliban menace".
I am sorry Saima, but that cooperation won't be fortcoming simply by making statements. There are very deep fissures in our society whether extremist vs moderate, liberal/secular vs religious/conservative, elites vs common citizen, haves vs have nots, and inter-ethnic and inter-provincial frictions and animosities.
Do you really believe that these very serious issues, which have brought Pakistan to the edge of the precipice, can be resolved just by writing articles and making pious statements?
While the entire social fabric is riven by injustice and mutual distrust, our approach to mending things boils down to name calling; to finding and kicking our favorite dead dog. No limit is sacrosanct which we will not violate in crushing our villain of choice.
Getting everyone -- and I mean everyone -- together and negotiating for the least common denominator for consensus? Perish the thought.
So let us keeping on writing articles and venting our lungs hoarse on blogs and message boards and -oh - keep on caling each other names. I can tell you exactly what it will get us.
ZILCH!
As for the cooperation you are asking for; forget it.

By reading articles like these one really does hope that the oridinary citizen is not given any democratic rights because he is irrational, myopic and excited to harm.
Mr. Akmal should know that one cannot write documentary pieces on ones own whims, such things should be confined to ones "hello kitty" diary. A peice of such staggering misconceptions should atleast be backed by some false indicators. The whole piece is a nutty hypothesis.
Its also rather sad that at one hand he is battling for democracy and on the other crying to the US NATO for help.
Plus en plus the fights up north are all going against the army, they have been defeated time and time again and the inside scope which many failed to read was that the negotiations with tribal chiefs were successful to the effect that the army freed 50 taliban prisoners.
So I think the horn the army is blowing is for all the wrong reasons.
And a true muslim will undoubtedly pray for taliban and al qaeda's victory because this is not about superficial lines drawn on maps but the great religion.

Thanks for this brilliant summary of what is goign on, and why the current handling of the situation is totally against the end goal. All of Pakistani soceity has to cooperate to end the Taliban menace. This kind of conversation is sadly missing amongs the liberal elements--politicians, media and the ruling government. Instead of uniting against the real threat--militancy and taliban, Pakistan society and politicians are involved in a stupid power struggle.
