IMO great ideas are not that easy to form in general, a lot of stars need to align.
...its silly to claim that islami greats stopped happening due to colonialization. we have had at least two fabulously rich islami empires, the mughal and the ottoman (you can add the ispahanis to that and then you get a third) which were without any colonialization. if at all, the islamis were the colonial powers in baghdad and damascus and jerusalem and alaexandria and basra and tunis. we can grant the the mughals were not much good due to the currupt-hindu influence, but the ottomans and ispahanis have no such hinderance. i mean halaku may have borrowed a few books for his campfire, but is that enough? after all these empires were fabulously rich.

the point is creating an atmosphere for nurturing of ideas into lasting useful shyte is a non-trivial thing..many ideas prolly die a quick death without social nurture, capital infusion etc. just some religion wont do, it can at best be a hinderance. its hard to look for that one line about going to china in middle of all the other copious shyte which you need to worry about when eternal damnation is at stake.

createalpha writes "How come there are more jewish scientists, writers, financiers, media men, artists than their muslim counterparts"

It is because of the structure in which they are allowed to operate, has absolutely nothing to do with genetics. That a racially exclusive community, that is not persecuted on an institutional level but feels itself superior and different (in a superior way) will develop group cohesion that enhances its chances of success is no mystery. On the other hand a group (Muslims) about which a directed effort has been made for centuries to caricature and demonize on an social/global level, translated into fact through colonization, with enough diversity and sectarianism (due to much larger numbers) to dilute social cohesion, will produce the results we see. The eugenics theory has long been discredited, it is nurture not nature stupid, because "nature" knows nothing of "Jew", and it sure as hell isn't because of the dimwitted "fantastic" stories of the Old Testament that they become "scientists".

Oh kunkil is the author (amused ikaaaan)

A friend and colleague often says, "I heard an NPR commentator ask where the Muslim Martin Luther King was-he clearly was ignorant of Muslim and Muslim descent feminists!"

jang writes "...its silly to claim that islami greats stopped happening due to colonialization."

Re-read the timeline of your history, you are lost in time. British colonization occurred after those "empires" were in decline and it was a qualitatively new phenomena, as the economic structure of the globe was changing, what was occurring in Europe, a "freeing of the mind", occurred several centuries earlier due to the Quran and Islam, it then took several centuries to undo that freeing of the mind by orientalist caricatures of Islam that were translated into reality by the Mullahs (who have always help the colonizers) that led to a stifiling of thought. Later colonization ensured that the crusaders caricatures of Islam got fermented and that Muslim never escape from that trap...

Eklavya has a point..he rarely does..but he has one today. It is the concept of humility. humility is counter productive to innovation and knowledge creation. Humility boxes ideas in. Humility as our resident mullah Eklavya notes is a requirement in Islam, therefore it is no suprise that islam is to be faulted for its inability to create mroe ibn-sinas

Kulharee writes "21st century Ibn-Sina may come in a shape of a revolution. We shall wait. Patiently. But the patience may be running out"

Whose patience is running out? Yours? A person who is sitting in the lap of the devil, with his lips never taken off its ass, happy selling his soul for a few miserable $$ as he badmouths his own people knowing full well what constraints they have to operate under, as that song says "...waqt ke saazish koi samja nahi.." Or the patience of the people of our contries that struggle overcoming insurmountable odds forced on them by a barbaric elite that has shackled us? No ladies and gentlemen, he is not talking about the patience of our people, he is not even talking about his own patience, he is talking about the patience of the so-called "civilized world", the US elite and their BS. He means that if the Muslim world does not submit to the demands of this elite soon enough their patience will run out and they will use the stick, or the gun- a veiled threat to get the rebels back in line. Listen carefully and listen now, you fool, "NO surrender ever to those that destroy humanity".

As I said, masadi the mronon just validated the rationale for the plight of muslims.."why us?". Logic and reason be damned...it is someone elses fault.

Kulahree, you will have to wait another 200 years until the victimhood and islamic oversight is beaten out of the muslims to have another ibn-sina. Until then...you will have some Avicennas but they will be not islamic scientists but just scientists.

createAlpha writes "Logic and reason be damned"

For you they are damned because you sure as hell haven't been able to produce any "reason" backed by logic on why you disagree with my well thought out posts. Regarding blame, to uncover causation is necessary for cure. Keep ignoring the virus that has infected you from without and chances are it will slowly kill you, regardless of whose ass you keep kissing...

Feroz,
well said 'Because the modern Mullah feels Islam is threatened no more by any force in the world than by a Muslim female questioning simple things in light of modern demands'
Bold writing, I fully agree with you.

This is not about me Ass-adhi, you are virulently sore from the ejection from the US and perhaps unhappy about your life in general. It has nothing to do with me..stop blaming me for your sad sack life.

You couldn't cut it, couldn't hack it..look you retarded monkey..not all peolpe are created equal. As I said, blame ishamel not isaac.

Chowk staff:
I take exception to the language used by Ms. Neembu. It is insulting to all male members of Chowk. Either she should follow Chowk guidelines or be banned to teach her a few lessons in common courtesy.
Thank you.

Re: # 45

Apparently the modern male readership is threatened by women scholars, artists, scientists and activists of the Muslim world, because their mouths are flapping as if these women dont exist...I doubt you men are any better than the mullahs you despise.

FUCKING IRONY OF THE WEEK.
