I agree. Suicide bombers are the smartest bombs imaginable, with carbon-based circuitry instead of binary, and with the ability to scout for and identify the target as well as the most opportune moment to strike most effectively and with minimal collateral damage, or abort and wait for another moment.
And they cost around Rs. 7,000 to equip, which is about $ 115/- or so ... less than 1/100th of the cheapest smart bombs.
It is not callous, I hope to say the above. It is tactical weaponry in war. Those bombers would certainly die fighting any way; And I believe calling these 'suicide' bombers is incorrect. They're just dying in war against an enemy as hundreds of thousands other soldiers are willing to do.

Amin, there are also some on chowk who brand you as a leftist communist though I dont.
I also realise why this free thinking come to you naturally. I appreciate all that you have been posting on the net. At least it is original and more, thougt provoking.
It would be very interesting to have your views on the latest crisis ie BB. After all you know Mush, Ijaz Shah, Zamin, Hamid Nawaz and many more from Okara. So lets have it/

Re: # 182 i think all this is in the open now.this bunch is the greatest vindication of Actons saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely.i must add that we had much better expectations from musharraf.but the tragedy is that at some stage every one sells his soul.all and everyone with may be few exceptions have a price.in this case i can hypothesise that musharraf may have been let down by overzealous advisors.one failing of musharraf has been that he is not a good judge of men.

Mubarka Ahmad,
I feel I have read much of these lines before. Least you could have done was give footnotes. Correct me if I am wrong. This is a cut and paste piece.

pavocavlry,
A defence analyst and adviser based in Islamabad, Zaid Hamid of BrassTacks - Advanced Threat Analysis and Security Management, lists six points constituting the Grand Strategic Objectives of US Foreign Policy for 21st century:
1) Defence & Protection of Israel;
2) Demolition of Political Islam;
3) Control of Global fuel assets;
4) Control of Global waterways/sea-lanes. Gibraltar, Bosphorous, Suez, Horn of Africa, Malacca Straits and the Gulf - all in or around Muslim regions;
5) Encirclement of Russia;
6) Encirclement of China.
Which of the above do you agree upon, and if you would like to add or eliminate any?
Regards

#180 Posted by pavocavalry,
thank God you are not calling me a Jihadi.
If this post is addressed to me, this brings to mind my dear departed (gratefully only from chowk) friend Echoboom who always said being called a Jihadi, an extremist, a terrorist, fundamentalist etc is a badge of honour to be worn proudly.
However, I deem myself a 'Purist' which I suspect, if I may take the liberty, you are too.

Re:pavo#175
Suicide bombings are the most ineffective weapons used in a conflict. The Tamil tigers introduced it in the modern age. In the ancient ages, suicide attacks are mentioned in certain versions of Ramayana, where Raavan used such tactics against the aryans.
Suicide bombings are essentially a desperate move to do some damage to the opposite side, no matter whether it leads to any tactical or strategic benefit. Actually it leads to neither. The side that gets attacked in this manner feels so repulsed by it that they lose any incentive to settle the conflict and stop viewing the other side as humans. In fact, they get more motivated to kill the opposing side indiscriminately. After all if you dont respect your own life, how do you expect the opposing side to respect it? The side that uses such tactics also has a huge wastage of resources as their people are sent out to kill themselves, thus depleting their own fighting forces.
The results are there for all to see. The Tigers havent achieved anything inspite of 25 years of conflict. The palestinians used this tactic and they are still languishing in desperate conditions. The Israelis simply built a wall to make a bantustan out of their land and create one large prison to hold them in. The Iraqis gave up on it after indulging in it mindlessly as they saw their country getting ruined. Now they have settled down to US based rule on american terms. The Afghans used it and have gained nothing. US and NATO forces routinely kill the Taliban by hundreds without bothering about collateral damage. The Pakistanis have used such tactics and the results are there for all to see as well.

Somehow despite all the crises, I still feel that his problems lie in what you have identified as, 'a poor judge of men'.
Over a period of time he sidelined all sincere advisors and staff and replaced them with those who were pleasant to his ears. If you analyse, his first year went ok but then followed a tragedy of blunders beggining refrendum to PMLQ and so forth.
I made a thesis, 'Exaggerated Vulnerability and Exaggerated Indispensibility'. There was a seminar on this in Turkey and I just knew about it on the web. DG FIA spoke on the vulnerabilities that served more to project Pakistan as unstable.
I had asked HP to identify this catorie but he generalised the army. I feel it is this group of bridge and poker players, counted on frienship rather than prowess.

Re: # 182 this was labelled on me initially in FC College in 1977 December.Reading too much Karl Marx in Library .The famous Ewing Memorial Library.Later some platoonmates of mine in the military academy reported that I am a communist.this was again asserted that i am one in kharian cantonment in 1984.i had some pictures of khomeni so some stupid intelligence guy reported that i am s shia extremist.then when the 17 August 1988 crash occurred and we were pleased we were branded as PPP activists.many of my close friends were in kabul between 1978 and 1992.
