According to gallop there are somewhere between 6-8 million Muslims living in America and that number is on a steady rise. Our average household income is around 60K which is no chump change either.

Very timely article. Participating in elections is a huge part of being a citizen in a democracy. This is the time to get into it as citizens who care about other fellow citizens, finding common cause with other citizens. Fellow non-muslim citizens do not belong to a great religion, as a result would tend to be bigoted and suspicious. They might consider some acts are polarizing, but that is an unfortunate result of biased media. But that is the landscape and ummites must do the best out of it. There are other groups of citizens who will take care of general issues like universla health-care etc so that is not that important. Foreign policy vis-a-vis muslim world and human rights for the growing ummah therfore need to be the most important issues. (other foreign policy parts e.g. global warming etc can be taken care by others.)

I have more in common with my Christian and Jewish neighbors and coworkers than I do with Arab-Americans or Paki-Americans, even though many of them may be Muslims. We Americans judge others not by where they're from, but by what they say and do. And the sad truth is that many Islamists have said terrible things and done nothing positive.

Nomination of a woman and African Amercian as presidential nominees shows the evolution of thought in America. Race, colour, religion have become secodary for many Americans excluding the right wing extremist Republicans. I wonder how will Muslim voters decide when it comes to race and gender?
