In #95 read "unless the people forcible take away their guns.... " as
unless the people forcibly take away their guns....a seemingly "civil war" (though against this US occupation force) or enormous proportions...

How the mighty have fallen!!!! Awam has spoken.....
1. Maulana Fazl ur Rahman has lost to some unknown guy from PPP(??)!! Unbelievable......FuR was the leader of opposition and, hands down, the most powerful maulvi in Pakistan.......Americans (and hamidm mian) should, now, realize that if bombing is not the answer.....
2. Sheikh Rashid was considered undefeatable in Pindi......He was like Benazir in Larkana....he has won the past five elections.......he won from two seats, as an independent, from Pindi last time.....this is unheard of.....
Well the good sheikh is losing on both seats.......in fact, he is in third place on both seats, which, till now, he owned....the two individuals in first position are both a part of pml-n.......and the interesting part is that one is from multan and one was, till recently, from ji......
3. anp has won two seats in nwfp.....so mma seems down and out........

zee writes "I don't think Punjab will support the army anymore. "
The people of Pakistan don't support the army, but that still doesn't take away its guns, nor the fact that it has seeped into all major vantage points of this system. Popular opinion will never make or break the military unless the people forcible take away their guns....

#91 Posted by masadi,
Soorry masadi, not this time around. If there's a voter turnout in Punjab of 45%+ despite the bombs, I don't think Punjab will support the army anymore.

bulleya writes "pml-n is killing in punjab"
The "killing" has not yet begun, let us hope the US elite for their perverted ends involving the West of West Pakistan, don't provoke a civil war, they are experts at doing that and the peons of the West have a long tradition of helping in their cause...

musharraf is saying condescendingly he'll accept the results and is 'willing' to work with any party which wins. The idiot still doesn't know it's the other party which needs to be 'willing' to work with 'him'!

first full result hs been announced.....perhaps a historic moment for pakistan!!!......some dude from bnp has won in baluchistan.......he has defeated zubaida jalal.....she was a powerful federal minister in pml-q.......she was, like shaukut aziz, not given a ticket by pml-q...so she competed as an independent....and she has been defeated big time.......
anyways, glad to see pml-q lose......though i was a pretty big fan of zubeida..

Feroz writes "Have you considered writing on the issues facing Pakistan? "
I do all the time, no issue facing Pakistan is greater in urgence than the domination of its uber institution by the American elite and the resulting forced atrophy of the rest of its social institutions. You miss this because as a peon of the West you cannot bear to hear the objects of your "misty eyed" worship exposed as barbarous charlatans. There is nothing "wannabe" in me, my criticism is based on facts and I never blame the victims, the people of Pakistan, unlike you...

#83 Posted by dost_mittar,
You can watch the Geo streaming video at their website.
I don't think the results will leave any room for horse-trading, unless musharraf does something drastic by tomorrow, which he is quite capable of doing.

You grossly and ignorantly understimate the power of the media to affect the mind, as cultural apparatus in the hands of the present day elite it is one of the most powerful tools in their arsenal...no mullah or guru can weild that much influence and reach that many people even over several hundred lifetimes...

zeemax:
I agree with hamidm that PM will do whatever it takes to keep Nawaz out; I wont be surprised if there would be some Sheikh Rashids among the elected legislators. But what if Zardari and Nawaz agree to join hands against Musharraf, what will he do?
BTW, I am disappointed with the Indian TV newschannels. None of them is giving a continuous coverage. AT one of the main news channel's 9pm news, the top story is Dhony giving a stern warning to his players for their indifferent playing, followed by a news about some terror threat to Delhi and only the third item is about Pakistani election.
