Sindh and Punjab were the original names of those areas since eons.
When was NWFP named 'Pukhtoonkhwa'?

If you delve a little into the ancient annals of this region you may be astonished to find it to be termed as Pakhtunkhwa

tahmed,
.... sorry, i didn't mean to ignore you .......i just watched the video and my ribs still hurt from laughing ! ........ the old man's colorful potohari reminded me of my father's tirade against anyone who had dared to cross his path ...... generally speaking, i agree with the old man's sentiments .... "aye saray man day khasam nain !"
unwashed masses zindabad!
p.s. i am sure sheikh rashid is having a good laugh too - actually his language is even more colorful than his irate constituent's ......

Considering the demand for "siraikistan", and the apparent "alienation" felt in southern punjab. I propose Punjab be called NEFP, what say you zeemax?

I do not understand how you can continue to provide links from YouTube when it has been banned. I can not access YouTube nor can any of my friends in Islamabad. Does this not apply in Karachi?
Following is a copy of an email I got from my ISP
Dear Valued Customer:
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (www.pta.gov.pk)
has directed all ISPs of the country to block access
to www.youtube.com web site for containing
blasphemous web content/movies.
The site would remain blocked till further orders from
PTA. Meanwhile, Internet users can write to
youtube.com to remove the objectionable web
content/movies because this removal would enable
the authorities to order un-blocking of this web
site.
We're sorry for any inconvenience.

I have been trying, but YouTube is simply inaccessable now. This is a great personal loss. I am more pissed off at this than I was at Geo or ARY ban because I do not subscribe to regular commercial TV.
Can anyone shed light on what the hell is up the ass of this government?

#101 Posted by hamidm2,
Nothing wrong with a referendum. Let's have one. Except that the results will be just the Verkotey Vilayat region from Kohat till Nowshera voting Yes. Down from Nowshera is Punjab and upwards of Kohat is tribal.
Hazara is hazara. Waziristan is Waziristan. Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Parachinar, Orakzai, Bajaur are just that.
These Pukhunkhwalis are just damman of Verkotey Vilayat like the Chaudherys of Gujarat who want to have the entire province from a small base just by colluding with the establishment in Islamabad.

on the frontier question: My humble opinion (voiced earlier on another board too) is that name-changes is what one would call a "lota issue" - i.e. one that is raised to in an attempt to get cheap popularity by some political party, accomplishes nothing.
And you lose something in the process - continuity with the past. The US is full of older Indian names (Michigan, Massachussets, Mississippi) and even names given by those the US fought against (spanish names like Los Angeles, San Francisco or names of french kings like Louisiana named after King Louis XIV who as king would be anathema to the US founders who fought against kingship). No one has bothered to change them - and instead focussed on substance. And the US is richer, not poorer as a result. It has retained its own unique heritage rather than trying to whitewash its past.
Ask baba in the video below, and he will no doubt explain what he thinks of politicians raising lota issues in more scientific terms than I can. Leave it to the lotas of bjp in India to try and get cheap popularity by replacing fine, historical names like Bombay and Madras and Calcutta with hindu-ised bs.

Seraiki is a dialect of Punjabi. Hindko is not a dialect of Pushto. The alienation of Southern Punjab is due to economic neglect and not ethnic/linguistic.
Get it now Adam Khana? Levaneya?

SR: As i recall, you were rooting for mush's dictatorship.
So enjoy this parting kick by that dictatorship (i.e. taking youtube off the internet because it shows mmq doing its usual criminal thing (shutting down the voice of the people in karachi).

Zeemax from NEFP
here is a couplet from one of your favorite heroes, Ahmad Shah Abdali
Da Dili takht herauma cheh rayad krhm,
Zma da khkule Pukhtunkhwa da ghre saroona.
Your khalifa of yesteryears Mohammad Khamis V of the Usmania dynasty once sent his envoy to kabul to lay out his plan about the future of the present NWFP.
when the British were defeated, His Majesty the Khalifa, in agreement with allied States, will acquire guarantee for independence of the united state of Pathanistan and will provide every kind of assistance to it. Thereafter, I will not allow any interference in the country of Pathanistan. (Ref: Pukhtunkhwa Kiyun Nahin by Dr. Mubarak Ahmad Chagharzai; 1989; PP: 138-139).
Pukhtunkhwa, Pathanistan, Pukhtoonistan mean the same thing, "pukhtoon quarter".

Zeemax:
Given your ANP=VV theory, and the pukhtunkhwa issue being just a VV issue, could you care to explain why the NWFP assembly was able to pass three resolutions regarding the name of the province being Pukhtunkhwa?
