..... tilapia is one of the most common fish served in resaurants and is mostly farm raised and fed factory made food pellets - in the wild it eats algae and water plants, so you don't have to worry .......... BUT, i hate to tell you that cat fish and the chinese carp that is so popular in pakistan nowdays are bottom feeders and eat shit ........ the only way you can avoid eating that stuff is if you revert to the religion of your forefathers and become a vegetarian ......

Yaar hamidm2, don't try so hard. Pigs are pigs ... and they eat their own shit as well as their colleagues as a staple.... even on farms ... no way you can prevent it other than put them in pampers. So you can't convince me that eating pig is good. It is repulsive.

I did not google about that. I saw it once on the local TV channel here in bay area. After reading response from hamidm saheb i googled it and he is correct. Either the local tv channel gave some really erroneous info or i forgot the correct name of the fish.

...... i agree with you that we should have a secular government and that people should be allowed to practice their superstitions but, unfortunately, the concept of secularism does not exist in islam ..... with the exception of turkey there is not a single mohammedan country that does not accept the koran and sunnah as the source of law some form or fashion ..... and it is not going to change in the near future ...... the best we can hope for is reinterpretation of some satanic verses and devilsh hadiths that impose a ban on music and women drivers ........ i doubt we can tackle bigger issues like condemning suicide bombers and accepting horrible hindoos into heaven .....

.... you know and i know that this pig thing is such a big deal because we have been conditioned since childhood against the poor soor and ,more importantly, it is easy to avoid .... it is petty religiosity ..... from what little i know about you, i am sure you have eaten worse stuff - frog legs, snails (escargot), caviar (yuck!), sheep brain and testicles (kapooray), stomach (ojri, tripe), force fed goose liver pate, gujranwala sparrows and seoul puppy ... the poor pig is just a victim of the madness of paranoid prophets .........

Re Umar, he introduced stoning for adultery too though it's nowhere mentioned. But it wasn't because he himself imbibed. He was a stern administrator ... that's all. Alcohol is indeed discouraged but not explicitly prohibited as far as I know ... though there're strong arguments for either case.

.... now that you mention it, i don't want the poor pig to be slaughtered like the taliban ..... so i will support a ban on all pig products accept ribs ... maybe we can figure out a way to remove a couple of ribs without killing the poor animal ..... but if we have to, we will do it as humanely as possible - whispering the kalima in his ear and using a sharp knife and hanging him upside down to make sure we drain all the blood ......
