mrs hamidm doesn't mind my drinking because it is not forbidden in the koran ......
Now I don't really see why I must comment on this!
One lost soul misleads many others.

Are you referring to Kashmir here?
Stop criticising prophets (God-sent reformers with the same basic message repeated over ages) and study your own texts.

Do apply your working knowledge to the Quran. May God help those who come under your unbelieving Jutt knife.
Don't join the wrong ranks, get to know who you are (I don't mean Jutt or Butt).

I think you've thrown all your religious books away. Others will never let go of God's guidance.
God only allows you to attack when provoked, persecuted beyond endurance, and then attacked. Islam is pro-life, go read some of what you seem to hate so much.

"The task of reinterpreting and modernizing Islam is quite difficult because it is deeply rooted in the past. It seems better for a Muslim country to leave it alone for individual practice, and frame a secular Constitution with suitable elements from Islam for the purpose of identity, to manage the state affairs. The Muslim world has struggled a great deal to let Islam play a dominant role in the state affairs but it seems impossible to do so without encroaching upon the rights of the minorities and allowing the material and rational development which is constantly taking place in the rest of the world".
Well said Gill Sahib.
Move on guys; the world has changed wether you like it or not. You may be able to score cheep points on an obscure, parochialistic website and think the world of yourself, reality is that the joke is on you!

I am not joining the debate but making a point abt fish eating the feces.
For eg.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5XfdTvL-0oA
(after minute 1 u see the fish flock enjoying the shit).
Secondly almost all cities in this world divert its' shit into rivers or seas. What happens to it? It's not decomposed in the water but eaten in full by the marine animals.
So momins think twice b4 eating fish again. If pig is forbidden for its propensity to eat feces then fish is not far behind in that trait.
In modern times pigs are reared in piggeries and are fed with fodder i/o shit. So, pigs are no longer dirty animals and therefore worthy of being our diet. Again, 2 eat or not 2 is left to individuals.

zeemax,
.... do you know what a desi or 'free range' chicken eats ? ...... the chicken, in its natural state, is a scavenger and like the poor pig will eat anything .... go to a farm - not a poultry farm - and take a look .....
..... now, while we are at it , can you point me to the verse in the koran that prohibits drinking ..... as far as i am concerned, that is the only thing that stands between me and my harem in heaven .... one thing i will say about islam - it is the only religion that allows prostitution, pederasty and pedophilia ... it is a great religion for those who like sexual variety ..... i know some horrible hindoo will jump up and say, "but we wrote the kama sutra!" .... sure, you wrote the book, but we practice it ... alhamdolillah .....

hamidm: do you realize that chicken, in its natural state (as opposed to one raised in a chemical lab), represents a premium food item at the grocery store?
as for the almighty pig - it provides the "short-cut" muslims of Pakistan an easy out to piety:
Who needs to be concerned with food "malawat", filthy kitchens and stinking, wet bathrooms when one can eat "halal meat" instead?
Who needs to be honest about Arab hypocrisy and jehaliyat when one can visit Saudi Arabia and do the hajj instead?
Who needs to be concerned with urban planning and urban street cleaning when one can stand on a podium and deliver the "aazaan" instead?
Who needs to be concerned with the misery of the poor in Pakistan when one can bend down 5 times a day to Biggest Guy Around instead?
Certainly not the "short-cut" muslim!!

Hamid Mian,
I am surprised at your suggestion of
[3. forgive the poor swine and make it halal to eat bacon and ribs]
What sort of a forgiveness is this? By killing the animal?
The animal is already forgiven, by being allowed to live their life. Are they not?

Of-course I can't be sure I don't have shit in the vegetables I eat.
Paki irrigation water comes from rivers that flow through india...indian kashmir...
how do you know people aren't dropping pig fat in those rivers?
actually there might be a way...veggies from pig fat will taste yummy...so if paki kids are doing what no kid in the world does...eating their veggies...you know the secret ingredient...

Personally, I am for a secular form of government with a Constitution, as I stated in the article. Religion can then be left for individual practice. In such a situation, there is no need for any reinterpretation. The individuals can practice their religion whatever way they want without imposing it on others.
My post #25 related to a situation where amelioration is sought through reinterpretation. Reinterpretaion should not only be theoretical; it should be practical also. This can be done by a government as Turkey is currently seeking to do.
Kamath: #29
I did not mean that the Muslim world was always "intellectually frozen in the seventh century.." I was speaking of the present Muslim world. If you read my statement in the article slowly, there will be no confusion. The statement is clear enough.

"I only eat white meat i.e. chicken/fish. They don't eat shit, do they?"
Fish do eat shit. Take Tilapia fish, this fish is added to all the fish ponds in North America as they are very good at cleaning (by eating) the shit from the other fish like cat fish.

The Turks need to take a step further and question the concept of God. Why are religious beliefs sacrosanct? Questioning Hadiths is going in circles that leads nowhere.

Haha ... just the abhorrence with eating an animal which eats shit sent all the googling hordes out searching for desi chickens and Tilapia fish !!!! Just to prove the point that eating shit can't be all that bad! Typical murtid behaviour.
Hamidm2, I've rarely seen a desi chicken nowadays much less than eating one so I don't know if you're not lying.
SRK Saheb, what's a Tilapia fish? Can one buy it at the supermarket? If one can I'll make sure to avoid THAT one!
