and so it is now trying to fish in troubled waters or at least get a bite out of the fish. the fish being Pakistan now, since other fish are already alert to the cat.

While I concede the point you make, please do not find comfort in "I told you so." What is happening in Pakistan poses a serious threat to the entire region and the world. An unstable Pakistan is not good for India and its other neighbors.

1. democracy, with its checks and balances

vs

2. dictatorship, whether in the name of the Supreme Being or in the name of the Supreme National Interest

Suicide bombings are not mindless acts. Targets are chosen well in advance and some strategy is always behind the bombing acts. Initially, they were bombing the army installations and personals now they are going after the civilian law enforcement. The one in model town appears to be a message to the politicians and someone would read it correctly.

I just don’t find this palatable that if you stop the participation in the WOT, the bombing would stop. That will never happen. Once the state stop going after these criminals, they would not consider that a sign of reconciliation instead they would celebrate that as victory and would use this weapon whenever they are losing the political battle.

It is important to continually go after them until they are finally defeated. So, if the Pak army would not go after them, someone else will have to do it. The purpose should be to defeat them at their game and not give them victory at any cost.

The US presence might have done major harm to the Pakistani politics in some areas but in one area the US presence had helped Pakistan is the fight against these criminals. The US insistence to fight the religious militancy in Pakistan has finally allowed Pakistan to revert back to decent and moderate politics which was not the case before 2001.

These criminals hate the idea that Pakistan could go thru a peaceful transition to civilian rule and free up the army to go after these criminals and that is the reason they have picked up the tempo and headed towards the civilian installations.

As soon as the new civilian government takes over, it should ask the army to go after these criminals and their hideouts and not stop until they are eliminated completely! Those Islamist that are part of the political process should understand that supporting these criminals would not help them in Pakistani politics.

The war is "the war of drones". Unfortunately the likes of zeemax and co have not understood the irony in the title of the article. Their responses are also drone like, and shows their utter desperation.


On the jihadi side you have two kinds of drones:
(a)the ones that do the killing
(b) the ones that mouth platitudes and illogic justifying the killing (the zeemaxs and urs trulys of this world)

Let us hope he doesnt make any last, desperate grabs for power using this lawlessness as an excuse - although whatever he does i think he has nowhere to go but out.

This strategy is a losing one and will ensure that the innocents those that want no part of this farce that has been set in motion by the US elite, who side neither with the higher or the lesser barbarians, continue to suffer needlessly. In the game the numbers will remain on the side of the lower thugs and so "going after them" in the manner that has been the Pakistan Army/US methodology will only strengthen and feed this cycle of violence and not reduce it. The US handed the mullah the mantle of the resistance against the empire to distract from the real struggle against them, they are more than happy to keep this cycle going because it benefits them at minimal cost. The people on the other hand get ground to the bone. Going after them in the intelligent method is to take away their legitimacy and authority which they gain by the current methodology of "going after them". Doing that will turn the people who are already fedup with them against them, that is the only way they can get back into the holes from which they emerged and were made kings thanks to the US. You need to think hard about this one...
