Problem is not with the PDS...FYI Tamilnadu govt distributes rice 2/kg through PDS. There is another experiment being done in a few districts of Tamilnadu...the PDS has to door deliver...This is an election manifesto of a few parties here...

Its the disparity in income which has caused a consumption binge by one section of people, which has driven the prices upward...

There is also someone (the Indian farmer for eg) who produces a low value item but he is also entitled to a fair price of that product. Export ban hurts him.

Ans: Majumder, most if the wretched farmers ( those who are committing suicide) have opted for cash crops than cerials, oil seed etc. The cost of agriculture is high and failure cause doom to the farmers for this type of corps (Vidarbha was famous for Cotton). In the name of controlling inflation, Govt. discouraged farmers from cultivating rice and wheat. Now, when rice and wheat prices are soaring, Govt. is not allowing the farmers to rip benefit from this. Do you think, this way we will be sufficient on food grains, edible oil?
