the key point from the article cited in #16
1. A decade ago astronomers made the revolutionary discovery that the expansion of the universe is speeding up. They are still working out is implications.
2. The quickening expansion will eventually pull galaxies apart faster than light, causing them to drop out of view. This process eliminates reference points for measuring expansion and dilutes the distinctive products of the big bang to nothingness. In short, it erases all the signs that a big bang ever occurred.
3. To our distant descendants, the universe will look like a small puddle of stars in an endless, changeless void.
4.What knowledge has the universe already erased?
You see the third point....the religious fascists will have a field day, in a few billion years from now.

Re: # 17 didnot mean to be off hand...but essentially the experiments will show the exact structure of matter and also explain a number of others features of our universe (dark matter, expansion etc) and in a way could also be the down fall of rational thinking, since in a few billion years we would anyway be in a void by ourselves (as the holey books say we are) see #16 and #18.
But yes, plesae do read them, they are remakrbale set of articles - which are exciting to read, and make you tingle. We are living in one of the most exciting periods for physicall siceinces since the early 1930s!

Dash,
How do the conclusions in #18 invalidate or validate the existence of God. After all it does not follow that God is what our scriptures make Him (or Her or It) out to be.

Re: # 14 that is the universal genetic code principle. There is something of the original slime (which crawled out from the ocenas) in all living beings on earth ;)
but you are talking to the converted here. You need to convince the likes of urstruly, masadis, and tahirs of this world.

Nice point again Dash.
My point, however, is to unite the religious brethren. Instead of distancing them like most of us secular humanists have done in the past. If there is ignorance, like the kind Tahir sahib has produced. It is up to us to provide him with evidence rather than blind faith and give him a chance to reason. One person at a time, we can change the world. It only takes one person. If Gandhi hadn't read Henry David Th. we still might have been polishing British shoes. hehe

Zarrar,
(If Gandhi hadn't read Henry David Th. we still might have been polishing British shoes.)
Correction. If Hitler hadn't been rendered penniless and jobless after WW-I we wud have been polishing Brit shoes. MKG had no constructive role to play in India or Pak's independence.

Re: # 20 GOD was created by MAN. The holey books WERE CREATED by MAN. the existence of god is not the question here, but one of GOD, the man created one.
The fundemental difference here (or issue) is that of validation. God needs no validation, and god needs no holey books. Man made GOD and MAN made Holey Scriptures require that validation!
God exists in the primeval soup that made us all and hence god is in all of us. GOD didnot create the primeval soup and then extract the HUMAN being from it.

Author ... I dunno I'm kinda confused here. Can you help me?
You see, it is Natural Selection - right? That would (hopefully) place physical survival as top priority in that process of natural selection, otherwise the entire exercise would be pointless. With me so far?
My dilemma is in figuring out how come most animal species become self-sufficient ... running about and so forth literally minutes after these are born, while a human child takes a year just to be able to walk ... and around a decade to survive without complete dependence upon it's parents?

If ppl had their way, this earth wud still be flat and the heavens are in the stars (though they are hell-hot). Quest for truth shall continue as long as we live.......the beauty of scientific inquiry is that it can negate itself at the altar of truth. So the chariot of truth trundle thru the broadway of ignorance.....

nicely put dash,
Majumdar, MKG had everything to do with india and pakistan gaining independence. That is a whole new can of worms. But along the same subject, there are many people that validate natural selection by stating that it was already available in the Quran via vague statements. Many muslim scholars and scientists agree with natural selection. The point i am trying to make is that, no one can disprove God's existence (the same way one can not disprove the tooth fairy's existence). But the point of the article is to promote the FACT of Natural Selection and the importance it holds for all our lives and our species' continutation.

I'll explain Natural Selction in our simple language Zeebhai.
Why many Indians/Pakistanis seek visas to western countries? Natural Selction! Yes it is!
We have food, social security here & lots of freedoms we as humans crave for. We adjust our presence to the places where we feel we can thrive and procreate without let or hindrance.
Species too adjust so that they can thrive & multiply and multiplication is the code written into all the living beings of this world.

Zarrar sahib,
I do not wish to hijack this thread but we surely cud discuss MKG's karnameys on UP. Btw u must read YLH's many posts on the G-man.
Dash,
Even if Man had not been created still there may have been a God, have you thought of that possibility.

zeemax, you do make some interesting observations (for a zealot 8-() )
Some of the point you have raised can also be found here
http://www.medela.com/ISBD/media/press_releases/New_insights_into_Breast feeding_-_A_research_seminar_summary_EN.pdf
1. To reproduce, animals must not only give birth to a new generation. They must also find an adequate
supply of foods for their young. Yet the young are rarely equipped to eat all the foodstuffs of an adult.
So animals have evolved different strategies to deal with this conundrum.
2. Mammalian babies are born at an amazing range of maturities. A baby kangaroo is little more than a
primitive embryo. A newborn whale is a comparatively mature animal, able to swim unaided. And
these babies develop at very different rates. A human baby takes 150 days to double in weight – but a
piglet only takes 10 days.
but I leave you with this thought:
"Theology is but the ignorance of natural causes reduced to a system...in this...light is no more than darkness; evidence is doubtful or false; impossibilities are credible; reason is a deceitful guide; and good sense become madness...theology is a continual insult to the reason of man..."
Paul Henri D'Holbach (1723-1789)

Zeemax,
I am glad someone is asking good quesitons. Different species have developed differently. Primates (which is what we are) have their younger cradled by their parents for many months. It is the same for baboons and chimps. Sometimes birds have to take care of their young for days and months before they are capable of flying. Smaller celled organisms like butterflies and bacteria, for example, have no dependency on their parents. Their lives are less complicated than a birds or an ape's. Therefore they only need minimal genetic guidance for survival and they have been doing it for centuries without dying out. They dont need complications in survival.
You are right. The main purpose is survival. Survival is varied from species to species. The survival has to depend on the natural environment. Each species survives by spreading its seed so to say and allowing maximum number of offspring to live in the environment.
