GT, I don't know how you equate Karachi and MQM with NWFP. Been reading Pakistani newspapers? The CM NWFP, Hoti, has initiated a dialogue with the Swat militants terming them a 'reality' which cannot be put down with force, and the Baluchistan CM, Raisani, has said "the fighters on the mountains are not terrorists".
Can you equate these with a bunch of street thugs who occupy a turf from Guru Mandur till Super Highway in Karachi? In all of Sindh?

Tampax: "This time, Rural Sindh will be in the equation, and can you imagine what will happen to all those Urdu Speakers in Shikarpur, Khairpur etc?"
Moron you think you will be safe when angry refugees from interior Sindh are pouring into Karachi that you will be safe? If this is what you think will happen you should run away to Lahore fast.
Anyways we've been through worse and we will fight again if we are forced into it.

Look, let me be clear:
1) I am not against a representative party for the Urdu-Speakers in Pakistan, but I am against MQM which is a clone of Shiv Sena in India and misguiding them.
2) Urdu Speakers should chose or form another political party which represents the aspirations of the rest of Pakistan, and not try to swim against the tide in the rest of the country because they will be destroyed.
3) I am not against Urdu-Speakers because my parents taught all their kids Urdu instead of Punjabi because they were born after Pakistan was born. I guess that makes me an Urdu Speaker as well. Do you want to dispute my claim on Urdu?

MQM - PPP alliance was conditional on the lawyers (and others like PPP) leaving Karachi alone. PPP could not "contol" the lawyers anywhere, forget Karachi. So MQM flexed their muscles (after Zard. failed to flex his non-existing ones). Rest is media crap for public consumption.
I am a bit dis-heartened by the chickening out of AA. On the other hand, it is nice to know that the lawyers do not follow a "leader". OBL's tactics need not be confined to violent movements only.

Urstruly,
You didn't comment on the following post on the other board in response to your query to me. Reproduced here in case you missed it.
Ok Urstruly, it goes something like this. I'll be brief:
1)Altaphies made the Chaudhries bhai bhai to sit in the Opposition in Fedearal when Zardari had already committed to share power in Sind with them.
2)Zardari backed out on Sindh and offered Federal ministries instead because he had to wind up the local Government (City Nazim system) as he had promised to his workers.
3)Altaphies accepted, ditched chaudhries, and now Zardari Altaphies became bhai bhai. I.e. for Federal in exchange for Provincial.
4)NS said either altaphies hold 12 may enquiry plus agree with Murree accord, otherwise Zardari/Altaphie bhai bhai can sit in Federal while PML-N will leave and go to Punjab.
5) Zardari backed out again and showed altaphies two fingers on either Federal or Provincial and formed his own Govt in Sing without Altaphies.
6) Arbab Rahim got slapped in Karachi where there still is altaphie admin, boycotted indefinitely and threatened agitation; sher afgan got slapped in Lahore where there's still chaudhries admin, boycotted indefinitely and threatened agitation.
7) Altaphies.chaudhries bhai bhai again.
8) Lawyers movement under attack in Mianwali and Karachi. Six were killed today in Karachi when a Lawyer's office building was set fire.
Is it clear Sir?

#15 Posted by sgb,
Yes, I live in Karachi but I hate MQM because it is not MQM's city, which they want to own. It is Pakistan's city. If it comes to who owns Karachi, the ones who claim they came from India in dhotis and sacrificed 3 years after Pakistan was born and they were getting kicked by hindoos in Dilli, then they will indeed be thrown in the Arabian Sea.
Not by my kind, but by others who will see them as enemies.
Setting on fire a particular Lawyer's office on the sixth floor with people inside after locking the grill, setting on fire a household belonging to the General Secretary of Sind High Court Bar Assoc in an apartment building in Gulistan-e-Jauhar miles away - was no rowdy blow out.
This bhai bhai stuff was a major chance MQM got to be in the political main-stream, but they threw it away in their conceit of their terror wing. Now, I'm afraid it's the rest of the country against MQM. Musharraf will run away somewhere, but where will MQM go?
And who will lose in all this are the naively innocent Urdu-speakers who continue to support MQM in some vague notion of getting some increased job quotas or something - that's all. Isn't that amazing? I consider this suicide.
They survived the 90s but they won't survive this time around. This time, Rural Sindh will be in the equation, and can you imagine what will happen to all those Urdu Speakers in Shikarpur, Khairpur etc? MQM doesn't think about them when it sets Karachi on fire.
This time, people are just fed-up with them.

urstruly et al
a small point (in fact nothing to do with article at all, but an observation).
An interesting experiment is to provide lab animals (or people) stimulus continuously. generally a positive stimulus is alternated with a negative one (hot then cold then hot so on). Once a while the stimuus is not changed - e.g its hot hot hot hot (the gaps are the same as before)
What happens when such a stimulus is provided?

btw, maulana urstruly, did you see the photo I posted in the crevo thread? It's about Bilal "He had no choice" Musharraf going to Saudi arabia on a personal business deal. Turns out, the whole machinery of the paki state was out to support him..including the paki ambassador...
must be nice for "he had no choice" to get that kind of service..
