May be the comment (112) cud hurt the ppl of Pakistan. :(

I happened to see the marks sheets of a student from Pakistan (Class X and pre-Engg). The subjects (compulsory, I think) include

1. Islamic Studies 2. Pakistan Studies.

Why he need to study the reasons for the establishsment of Pakistan even after 60 yrs?

Why he need to study theology (was it?) in a normal school(compulsorily)?

Obviously his score in these subjects wud give him an adge in his future admissions. I find this very baffling for a guy who wanted to be an engineer.

Mushy may not be the smartest person in the world (especially when he was making that "canadian visa" remark) and he may be power hungry....but

It is absolutely insane to blame the Pakistani "mindset" problem on him.

He did not create it - in fact, he was created by it!

HP, tahmed et al.
I agree with HP that the last lap of the 50% will be the toughest one.

PPP appears to lack an iron willed and fisted leader.

Whoever the advisors, the mayem in Karachi immediately after visit to Nine Zero explains a lot.

I have a feeling of a worst case scenario. What if sometime soon, Punjab Assembly is disolved. Whats the equation then?

Here is a symptom that that pakistanis need to address. No restoration of the corrupt judges will cure this. Jihadic teachings have killed the value of human life in pakistan.

KARACHI: Nightlong firing irks residents

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 10: A large number of people residing in several high-rise apartment buildings and houses in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 13-D and 13-D/1, were forced to spend a restless night due to firing into the air at a musical function held in the vicinity of Hasan Square Extension, which continued till 4am on Thursday.

The entire area reverberated with the sound of gunshots all night long creating panic among the residents who were already frightened due to the violence that had erupted across the city earlier during the day. They were under the impression that violence had once again erupted in the city.

#117 ijaz gul: i am not sure about the "will" of the PPP leadership, but the fact that the PM spent 5 years in jail as political prisoner rather than join the musharraf bandwagon says something about its moral fiber.

more relevant - what are the goals of the PPP leadership, and how effective has it been in meeting those goals. That is where I see a problem - the PPP leadership has steadfastly refused to acknowledge the contributions of the lawyers movement that made the entire freedom movement (of which BB's return was a result, not the cause) possible, and has chosen instead to present itself as deserving credit for the freedom movement. Logic would say that by giving credit to the CJ and the lawyers movement, PPP would be strengthening the very pillars of democracy on which all political parties, including PPP, depend.

So, the question I have is: why is PPP persuing this seemingly unnecessary competition, verging on virtual enmity, with the lawyers movement??

It is interesting to read how a part of the Pakistani intellegentia keeps griping about lawlessness and other ills facing the Pakistani society. Blaming Musharraf is fine but he is just a symptom of a malaise which has much deeper roots. The poor quality of political leadership Pakistan has had right from the inception is a major cause or else Ayub Khan would not have been able to institute military preponderence in the body politic of the country. The biggest blunder Pakis made was to play 'frontline' against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. The Americans got what they wanted, the Russians left licking their wounds, what did Pakistan get? None of the strategic depth which Zia had dreamed of but 3 million Afghan refugees who wont go back because they are thriving at the cost of Pakistani jobless, a gun culture (which unfortunately most Pakistanis think macho)no civil society can be proud of and an unhealthy rise to prominence of retrograde Mullahs who will ensure Pakistan goes down the drain. The ever present desire to upstage India has also resulted in Pakistan's unhealthy dependence on their military .
Now that the people have voiced their preference, the first task before the civilian leadership is to rein in the military and send it permanently to the barracks and keep there for good. Let the generals look after their corps and divisions rather than meddling in politics.
With Nawaz Sharif who has a steady head on his shoulders and the PPP we hope will give Pakistan a new direction

#119 Posted by tahmed32,

why is PPP persuing this seemingly unnecessary competition, verging on virtual enmity, with the lawyers movement??

As HP pointed out, it would have been to use as a bargaining Chip but Zardari opened his hand too soon by visiting 90 Azizabad and muaafi talaafi etc. That put paid to any perception of support to Lawyers (through Murree Accord etc) because MQM was the very party which prevented CJ's entrance into Karachi and killed 48 persons doing that.

However, this may now change. The lawyer burnt alive in his chamber along with five of his clients (including two women) was named Makhdoom Altaf Abbasi Advocate, a Sindi speaking PPP worker, whose body was wrapped in a PPP flag upon burial.

Interestingly the client, Danish Husain, with relatives had come to discuss his Court-Marriage case and was Urdu Speaking. He was granted burial adjacent to 90 and is being claimed by MQM as their lawyer who was burnt by 'conspirators'.

"If you truly want to come across as real and genuine,..."

And I suggest that you get in the line. I am for sure the only interactor at the whole fukking chowk from whom people want authenticity before even I start talking. And I am not authentic unless;

1. I live in pakistan
2. I don't live in pakistan
3. I live in US
4. I don't live in US
5. To which country I pay my taxes.
6. To which country I do not pay my taxes.
7. Why didn't I criticize Timbuktoo while criticizing west.
8. Why did n't I criticize West while criticizing Timbuktoo.

and demands just keep going on and on..ad nauseum.

No such demand is placed on any other single fukking interactor except me. Perhaps I step on too many tails in the course of the day. And I intend to keep doing it.

But didn't you notice that while national assembly yesterday offered prayers for the victims of an industrial accident in Lahore, they couldn't spare one friggin' minute for the layers who were burnt alive by the thugs of MQM.

It is only because this unholy alliance of all currupt, prowestern ruling elite is now unanimously want to crush the lawyers movement and the issue of reinstatement of judiciary. They are all in on it.

I remember when we were kids, we had made up many rhyms. For example, when two kids happenned to get into a fight, while a number of kids would jump in to break up the fight, another bunch of them would sing a rhyme in unison, which went something like this:

LaRai LaRai mo'aaf Karo
Kuttay ki dhooi saaf karo.

Now when I see these politicians, it reminds me of that rhyme. There was time when these a/holes were up in arms with each other and now when they are forgiven for the cases of even murder, and given half the chance to become the part of a system that oppresses human beings, how they ALL have become the ass-wipes of this dictator.

There is always wisdom in the conventional wisdom of kids.

zeemax: perhaps it is a bargaining chip as you and HP say. But why do you think the chip has not been used already and the bargain made (which seems more likely to me)? and what do you think is the bargain? is it for musharraf to step down from his military rank (and thus effectively lose his source of power) and for BB to come back (which is what it seems to me)?

the fact that the cj was not immediately restored the same time he was freed has been bad for the country i think - mqm's lawlessness would have ended (including the loss of life yesterday) if it saw the cj back in his place. and mush would have been in court by now, instead of trying to upset the people's mandate.

Re: # 122

urstruly,

..... i hear you, but you only have yourself to blame ...... the resaon you and other mullahs residing in the west have no credibility is because of the obvious 'munafiqat' ........ the most venemous and vocal anti-west armchair jihadis are those residing in the west..... they rant and rail against the 'evil' system even as they take advantage of everything it has to offer - freedom of speech, welfare, government cheese, subsidized housing, student loans, etc etc ........ in my personal experience the degree of 'munafiqat' is direcvtly proportional to a person's religiosity ...... i am sure there are exceptions, but they are few and far between ........... you, my friend have been pigeon holed as a munafiq - live with it ......

..... by the way, how is life on the pak-afgahn border ?
