Injustice to Individuals (sati, human sacrifice, honour killing, terrorism, and so and so forth) is just a blip which can be corrected with legislation to whatever extent (very little) it can be enforced. The real task is changing mindsets.

The British didn't do that. Neither did the Muslims conquerors of India, I defer. But it can be done.

Please don't lose the big picture. Saving a few lives playing to the gallery means nothing.

Yes, I do see that as a problem. But I still think that practices such as sati and human sacrifices in an earlier era - to give examples from the hindu society alone (I don't care whether or not they were an aberration of hinduism)- are to be abhored. I am not in favour of the islamic system where the group rights of religions (even non-muslims) take precedence over individual rights - the reason why Muslim rulers in India did not do anything against such practices whereas the British did abolish them).

The alleged incest and abduction came to light after a search was begun by the authorities for the mother of the sick 19-year-old.

Since her discovery, her alleged mother, named as Elisabeth F, has been receiving medical and psychological treatment, police say.

Reuters news agency has been giving details of a police statement based on Elisabeth's testimony.

She said she had been abused by her father since the age of 11, the statement says.

He allegedly lured her into the cellar of their house in Amstetten in 1984, and drugged and handcuffed her before locking her up, the statement continues.

"Abused continuously during the 24-year-long imprisonment", Elisabeth bore six children while a seventh died soon after birth, the statement says. Reports by other media speak only of six children.
