Azra, I agree with most of what you have written, but perhaps Pakistani society is not ready to hear what you have to say. The focus needs to be on those women, and not your personal beliefs. Your lack of belief seems to have become the centre of attention here. I don't think this is what you wanted, but it cannot be a surprise to you.
You have the right to speak of your own beliefs, but to conflate them with a larger issue does not do the women you speak of any good. If anything, it brings home to a certain set of men that this is precisely why they want "their" women illiterate, barefoot and pregnant; anything else, and women go out of hand and become apostates.
In an ideal society, women and men should have the right to speak of their beliefs or lack of thereof, but we do not live in ideal societies. I therefore ask that you consider harnessing your anger-it is very obvious, and maintain the rage!- better. I am not asking you to be hypocritical. I am just asking you to prioritise. I am on your side.
